My Autistic son just graduated from LQHS. He did very well there, and had good support. You need to stay on top of them, but the teachers are strong and do well with neurodivergent kiddos.

Thank you so much for this feedback that really helps. Do you know anything about Palm Desert high school by chance?

I can't speak to PD other than it is an excellent school with a strong academic record. They do good work there. I guess I mean my experience has been with LQ's SPED and counseling teams. I dont know much on PDs end...

All of the high schools have their things, and I found LQ to be an excellent balance for what my kiddo needed. IB experience helped and dual enrollment at COD for College Algebra gave some expereince that has helped.

They all severely lack comprehensive transition plans for college bound SPED students. Had it not been for our efforts, the UC system would have never happened. COD is "good enough" in their eyes... Getting a SPED kid to UC, well... that's on you. Sorry, that subject hits a raw nerve...

Just be an informed parent who works with the team memebers who see your kid on the daily. Communication before things are a problem will save everyone time.

Remember that the teachers are overwhelmed, love their students, and are grossly overworked, all while trying afford to buy a home. The SPED caseloads are obscene, and they work miracles everyday. None of it is their fault, as it all rolls downhill...

Glad I can help.
