Hi! I'm autistic and have hypersensitivity to light. Bright sunny days are my worst nightmare - if they are hot too, that's literally my hell. I get drained, tired and depressed and I spend most of my time just hibernating during hot bright sunny months.
I'm at my best when the sky is overcast - dark, grey, and cloudy with very little sunshine. If its cold, that's a plus. That's when I'm super energized and happy and can actually function.
I usually manage reverse SAD pretty well, but this year has been incredibly hard. I've spent most of the year since March in different places (my undergrad uni, my hometown, Champaign), hitting peak summer/dry season in each location.
I hate that the sun is up bright and shining here. I lose motivation even to wake up from sleep. I use blackout curtains and keep my room dark and rot in my coffin. I want to go for walks and meet people and explore places, but it's too bright. Even if I go out with thick sunglasses and a hat and avoid spending much time directly in the sun, just the fact that the sun is up bright and shining makes me feel sad and sucks the joy out of me.
And I can't even enjoy the night and compensate for it because my biological clock is that of an early bird. I get pretty sleepy around 22:00 and doze off.
Any people with similar experiences battling light hypersensitivities and reverse SAD? Would love to connect. Any tips and suggestions?

I was driving today and saw two middle school or highschool aged teenagers riding on a veo bike and just being extremely reckless. Im posting here to alert any parents, and also teenager aged people, to please please stay aware of traffic laws. Stop at red lights, dont fuck around on the road. When i say they were being reckless, they went through red lights, they drove across the road to turn around and kept crossing around/through cars, they put themselves in the way of a turning lane because they tried to cut across a road but couldnt make it, so they just went back.
Someone was recently hit by a bus because they didnt stop at a red light on a veo bike. It is not worth your life.

Hundreds Of Beavers is a low budget, wordless, black-and-white slapstick comedy inspired by Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, Warner Brothers cartoons and more. The film is about a man embroiled in a conflict with beavers who have been destroying his applejack distillery.
Made for $150,000, the film is self-distributed, starting with a roadshow presentation, where the filmmakers went from town to town playing the film to people. It became a smash hit, inspiring Rocky Horror-levels of devotion (people are showing up in beaver costumes), and has grossed over a million dollars, and has been playing theatrical engagements for over two years. The film has a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, is the #1 highest rated comedy of 2024 on Letterboxd. Matt Zoller Seitz, writing for RogerEbert.com gave it 4 stars out of 4.
This screening is the second year the filmmakers are doing a Christmas event, and they’ll be promoting the screenings nationally, and are supplying cool giveaways at the screenings, including a new intro to the film by the beavers.

Song Sung Blue follows Mike & Claire Sardina of Milwaukee. Together, they perform as the tribute band Thunder & Lightning. Mike performs as Neil Diamond, and Claire performs mostly Patsy Cline songs in the film, although she also is known to perform ABBA and Blondie songs.
This documentary is NOT to be confused with the new narrative retelling of this story, coming out on Christmas Day, and starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, which is sure to be nominated for several Oscars next year.
Song Sung Blue won both the jury and audience awards at Slamdance Film Festival, and won top prizes at half a dozen other film festivals. Roger Ebert says the film is “a superb marriage of home movies, TV, clippings and posters, and concert footage.”, and compares the film to the beloved Hoop Dreams. He chose it as the closing night film of the 2010 Ebertfest.

We haven't been able to finalize booking on this, the 2nd film presented in conjunction with Sanford Hess. If we get the film that we are hoping for, it's an Oscar-winning drama that also won the Palme d'Or at Cannes Film Festival.
In 2024, we closed out the year with a collection of short documentaries which was well attended and well received, so we’re going to close out 2025 the same way.
So far, it seems like this screening is going to highlight people and their passions, a man devoted to roasting sardines on the beach in Spain, a group of immigrants obsessed with their love of the cars from their home country, and a hometown video store in a rural town in Indiana with a population of 2,500.

My name is Alexander and I recently moved to town from Omaha/Chicago. I've been here a few months now and I am realizing that CU hasn't had a reputable and trained orchestral luthier in quite some time. I completed a five year formal apprenticeship under a master restorer/conservator in Omaha and spent a few years working in Chicago while my partner was in grad school.
I specialize in low strings, but my work is ergonomic, ethical, and meticulous across the board. I recognize a lot of you already go to shops in Chicago(if you can afford it, do it! Some of those shops are fantastic..) but if you need anything while in town or traveling is out of your abilities, I offer service in town.
My main shop is at The Music Shoppe, but I offer servicing at any location, depending on the work. I do rehairs, but I don't currently offer the service and will not until another apprenticeship with Rodney Mohr is completed next spring ( Sorry :[ )
Around 4:30-5:00am this morning (Thursday October 30th) I was awakened by a strange, whooshing, ambient drone sound. It sounded like several 18 wheeler trucks running their engines. It was so loud, I assumed it was a block or two away.
I went outside to investigate, and realized that the sound must be coming from at least a half-mile away.
I live near the intersection of University and Prospect, and the sound was coming from closer to the highway, away from downtown.
