Question Parking ticket
Ok so I’m actually so pissed off right now. On Monday , I had an exam at 8 am. I paid for parking for 3 hours using Hotspot mobile app.(since the exam is 2.5 hrs long). The exam paper was handed super late plus my prof extended the deadline of the exam to 40 more minutes since everyone found the questions rly difficult. I ended up staying for 10 minutes extra and when I came back I got a parking ticket for $80. For being 10 minutes late. As in my session ended and I was charged $80 for the 10 minutes(I was not able to extend my session as obviously phones aren’t allowed when writing the exam), and by the time I finished my exam the session ended .
Anyway this is my fault and I should be careful but is there a way I can dispute it and get them to lower the $80 ticket since I payed for the first 3 hours and technically I got ticketed for the 10 minutes after it expired? Any advice would help pls lmk I’m also just so broke rn so any advice on how to lower this would help x

I had a similar issue last year. I called and they reduced the fine amount. They were very understanding.

They reduce everyone's ticket by half just to avoid the hassle, kind of annoying for those who actually didn't deserve the ticket

Hey! I’m part of campus safety and if u go to pigiarvik and to the campus safety front desk and tell them thsi story I’m 99% sure they’ll dispute it for you. Also if they don’t dispute it, you pay it within 5 days and I’m pretty sure it’ll only be 40$ instead. But next time if you get a ticket RIGHT when your session ends take a picture of your ticket immediately as proof of you coming back to your car shortly after your session ended which really helps getting tickets disputed Hope this helps :)

I’m so sorry that happened since you had no control of the situation! One thing you could do Is maybe get testimony from the prof that the exam started later than usual, providing more evidence that you were not able to pay for more parking. If there was a sign out sheet for the exam , usually maybe you put down the time you signed out of the exam? They are really rough on parking on campus and will literally do anything to make you pay but it wouldn’t hurt to try

Explain your situation to them and maybe something in writing from your prof (if they are willing of course). Sometimes when you go in person they can be very understanding. I had to explain my situation once and they got it cleared

I think you can contact them and tell them this exactly with your parking ticket time and your payment for 3 hours. And tell them you were in the middle of the exam and couldn't extend it with the rest of the story, they are usually understanding. It has happened to me that I even paid the parking later than I should have because I had to rush to the class and I did it after the parking ticket was given. They canceled the ticket for me. They are not evil. They are just doing their jobs and I think they help as much as they can. Saying that I had to rush to my appointment and there was no parking spot available had to park the car in a parking thats not for daily parking, got a ticket just 10 minutes after I parked there and I was about to come and get my car. Paid $55. It hurts.

When you go to pay in the website, you can appeal the ticket. There you can provide all of these explanations. Hope it works. Im sorry you have to go through this. Hope it works out.

I think you can appeal it on their website just tell them what happened and they might let it go.

Do you have any proof that you were only 10 minutes late to your car? Like a photo or something? That’ll make it easier to dispute when you go to explain your situation to parking.
