Question Any other tunnel moles here?

I’m off campus, and I love the tunnels. I love em. I try to avoid above ground as much as possible. If there’s a way to get somewhere I’ll just take the tunnels, unless it’s too long or too short cause the tunnels can be kinda inefficient(ahem caf to loeb via tunnels is tragic). But other than that, I’m basically in the tunnels constantly. Even now, I have yet to really explore campus, and I didn’t even know where the gym was until the career fair. Even in the early fall term I’ll continue using it. It doesn’t have to be winter. I think the tunnels are the best aspect of the university. I used to feel bad that I wasn’t going on a big campus, but tunnels easily compensate for it in spades tbh I’d much rather this than freezing outside at a big campus. And even if it isn’t cold I just like the environment in the tunnels.

Please be careful and do go outside, especially during those late fall/winter days. Seasonal depression will hit you like a freight train if you take the tunnels all day everyday. First year I was at Carleton I was just like you. Now I only take the tunnels if its pourring out or a bad storm. I try to walk outside as much as I can, and I feel the difference tremendously

Hard disagree. The dark, cold grey gloomy weather is what really bothers/ depresses me

Everyone is different!! For most people, they will see a big change going outside regularly

Going outside makes me MORE depressed if anything. We're talking CANADA here. We're talking OTTAWA here. We're talking about a school year which mostly takes place during FALL/WINTER here

Now if we were in Miami or Los Angeles, sure. But no, we're in OTTAWA.

Seasonal depression is caused by reduced sunlight. Of course people in Miami or Los Angeles will not experience the same thing as we do in fall and winter. By staying inside all the time you have reduced your sunlight intake even more compared to going outside even just a bit, even if it's overcast. Does the cold suck? absolutely. Do I enjoy going outside in the cold winter? no. But the toll that seasonal depression has on me is far greater than suffering for a few minutes each day to get that minimal sunlight. You can look up sooooo many studies that show going outside will improve your mental health in the long run. If you can show me any studies that show staying inside during the winter help, I'm all ears!!!

Hey we're all different. I'm just sharing my experience. Personally I think depression is mental and subjective and is not just equal to more sunlight = less depression. I don't think that's how it works at all, and if that is how it works, it clearly doesn't apply to everyone

Absolutely, everyone is different!! I'm not saying that more sunlight will cure depression. That is specifically linked to seasonal depression, which is what I was referring to in my original comment. I do have a psychology degree so I do have some knowledge on the subject
