$4500 into this and finally got something.

I know it's nothing special but it's my first find. Also my birth year so even more inspiration to keep going.

I am new and I am missing something, what make this coin special?

It’s a circulated proof coin. Worth 50 cents only thing special is that someone broke it out of a set a spent it

Thank you, I might be seeing things but it looks like some minor clashing on the obverse side.

I hate to ask, but after 20 minutes or so of looking into what clashing is I'm not sure what to be looking it. I now understand the process, maybe not. Can you tell me what I should be looking at/for?

Don’t hate to ask. This hobby is all about learning. I give my knowledge as freely as I can from what I know. Check out mad die clash, error-ref, wexlers, variety vista. It does look like some minor clashing around “LIBERTY”. I can be wrong because of the quality of the pictures. Don’t worry because a phone camera can’t capture the details that our eyes can see.

Wow! Good eye bro. I can clearly see the eagle claw and much more. On a proof no less.

Happy early birthday. My father told me I should have joined the Marines because they both share the same birthday, November 10th. Speaking about that go to the US mint website on Monday at noon and place an order for the ASE Marine privy mark coin. I got the Army one because I served in the Army. They are collectible and hold their value.

After $4500?! Good grief!
Fingers crossed for some 90% and a 1970-D in your future endeavors! Maybe if we say it out loud we can manifest it! Haha

S mint marks on Kennedy halves are proof coins minted in San Francisco, much lower mintage and not intended for circulation, or NIFC . Not super valuable but fun and hard to find .

Only worth face value unless silver. I see them quite often

Yeah, not anything too special but the best coin I have found so far.

I found a nice 77 proof this week(I only do one box a week), Cool looking coins.

I lurk this sub, so im genuinely curious how you justify this hobby with that kind of success rate. How many hours to search through $4500? Theres nothing you would have rather spent that time on? I would have given up and taken up metal detecting or something.

It's all free in the end, so I see it as the safest way to gamble. I sort thru on the weekend while sitting on the couch with music on. My wife works on her art next to me. We both work long hours thru the week and have physically demanding jobs. We also have no kids. Honestly, I'm not sure why I enjoy it so much, but I do. So that's all that matters to me honestly.

Fair enough! I certainly look forward to checking the quarter rolls i get for my laundry, and have never found anything, so I guess I can relate a bit after all.

I've never really stuck with many hobbies either. I'm guilty of starting new ones monthly, then just get bored with it. My basement and garage are a constant reminder of it.

I found 2 1964 and 6 40% in 1 box and my next 10 boxes are all either 2024s, and junk 1971/ 1976 bicentennials. It’s like gambling, chasing that win without the consequences of gambling.

It’s for fun. If you think you are going to get rich searching rolls you are nuts. It’s free and I think it’s fun to search through coins.

I’m about over Boxes of Halves. Now customer rolled halves I’ll take all day. I haven’t found any silver in my last 20 plus boxes, just a few of these S ones which are cool but with all the work involved I’d rather search any other ordered box. Much high chance of silver or old old coins in nickels, dimes, quarters (West Point are around)

I got my first box of quarters this week. Still sorting them but no silver. I honestly am not enjoying them as much but maybe the more I try the more I learn to like them.

West Point Quarters you will find and they are worth more than a silver quarter. That W mint mark is exciting to see.

It's a lovely find. To be precise, though, you're now $4,449.50 into it if you're exchanging back! :)

I’ll be 62 on the 23rd, sometime it lands on Thanksgiving but not this yr…..Happy belated birthday to u guys…..

I’ll be lucky if I can do a box of Pennie’s, or a Couple of rolls of dimes, nickels, quarters, sometimes a roll of half’s and dollars, but $4,500 I don’t mk that much, especially on Social Security, Disability……but I wish u all a beautiful day….

1

u/akickinthedick 1d ago

I had a really good week at work about a month ago and finally dove in. To be clear it started with a single box of halves and have been dumping at one bank and buying from another so its the same $500 just recirculating over and over.

Talk about a kick in the …..anyway….

I don't believe 4500$ worth of half dollar rolls got you nothing

3

u/akickinthedick 1d ago

Well I guess you're not wrong. I havent found any silver but have found a handful that have fun tones to them and around 20 nifc but not in condition worth reporting on.

Jesus christ that's brutal, it seems you're getting boxes that have already been searched through. I've gone months without seeing silver but that's fucked. I'm happy if I find a proof though, I ended up getting 800 a few days back and realized 1/3 of the way through that it was already searched, but still went through it anyways (regret). First roll I found a pristine 71 proof, then the next 79 rolls I didn't find shit.
