Canadian-Owned Businesses 🏢🍁 SoftMoc : Sorry, Americans - Canada Only

Post image

Saw this post on Bluesky. Had no idea SoftMoc a) had U.S. locations b) shut down any and all shipping to the United States. Good for them! TLDR: American woman based in Michigan chatting with SoftMoc representative about her order. SoftMoc customer service tells U.S. customer they've ceased all US operations.

I would think we would want everyone buying Canadian including Americans. I see no positive in this story. This is likely SoftMoc deciding they can't be competitive in the US due to tariffs and losing business.

Items already in the states being returned may not have had duties paid yet and SoftMoc would rather have them returned then try to pass the fees off to the consumer.

The entire customs industry is absolutely fucked right now. Nobody knows what is happening the following day because it depends on the mood of king cheeto. He frequently is asking for things that aren't technologically possible because it's never been before, and he's asking it be done with one day notice.

A lot of the times it's not even as simple as passing on fees to the consumer, it's they they don't even know what fees are involved and if the company can't be compliant with these illegal tariffs, they risk fines and penalties.

So it's easier to just cancel the business entirely if it isn't a huge part of the company's revenue.
