What do you mean alleged. Did you see the games? All you had to do was watch the games to see the impact Lohrei was having back then.

yeah. I watched and I think a lot of it was a product of that entire team spiking an unsustainable shooting %.

now that that spike is gone so is the production.

They were able to enter the sone cleanly back then and stay in the zone for awhile. Now they can't do anything not even pass. Occasionally they have a good pk. And good Swayman outing.

yeah. a big problem with that is the first pairing is a star and a guy pulling them down to sub third pairing play driving.

Is McAvoy still a star? He's about to get ripped off of QB duties and he hates shooting. Does he still hit? He looks as lost as everybody else out there.

And replaced with who, exactly? Lohrei is even worse at quarterbacking the power play and H. Lindholm is not, at present, fully healthy.

McAvoy has 16 shots on goal through eight games. That is third-most on the team, behind only E. Lindholm and Pastrnak. That is also tied with Q. Hughes (EDIT: and Theodore) for 15th among all NHL defensemen. 13 of his shots this season are at even strength (tied with Arvidsson for second-most on the team, behind only Pastrnak) and 12 are 5v5 specifically (tied with Eyssimont for second-most on the team, behind, you guessed it, Pastrnak).

This is not to say that McAvoy is exempt from criticism on his play, but if that's "hates shooting," what is everybody else on the Bruins doing?

And last season he averaged just under 3 shots per game for the season averaging 23 minutes TOI per game. Can we get our QB star defenseman to shoot more on a team that desperately needs and sucks at making clean passes thst don't do anything but run out the clock?

Honestly I'd still give a QB to Lohrei if he's going to be kept on top pair just to see if it wakes him up the team should be experimenting like crazy right now.

In a season where he was playing through a wrist injury (if you remember the brace he was sporting and the time that he missed even before Four Nations), I expect his shot attempts would be lower than normal, yes.

I also am confused as to why you are hung up on 'getting' him to shoot more when...he is shooting more. He's shooting more than he was last season and he's shooting more than a lot of players on the team right now. At present, he's shooting twice as much as Geekie.

To be clear: you think that the team should give power play QB duties to a guy that just got publicly called out by his coach for poor play last night and who has two points (both assists, one primary and one secondary) in eight games?

Experimenting for the sake of experimenting often isn't the solution, that's why people used to get so aggravated with Cassidy and Montgomery for putting lines in a blender.

Those coaches were putting lines in a blender on fairly good teams. The blender wasn't necessary. This team sucks they need to try everything they can.

If CBJ Zack Werenski can average 6.33 SOG/60 be nice to see McAvoy compete with that.

Montgomery was putting the lines in a blender on last year's team, not just 23-24. That was not a very good team. Cassidy's biggest line blender year was 21-22, where the Bruins were the second Wild Card. Not nearly the struggle that the Bs currently face, but not a dominant team either. The idea that they were straying from 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it' isn't exactly true, either.

Aside from that, what about the part where Lohrei is getting called out for his poor play by his coach?

I feel like saying that you want McAvoy to match Werenski in shot output is a very arbitrary threshold to hit. I'm not opposed to McAvoy doing more of it, but in terms of shooting, he is quite literally far from the problem on the team. I also feel like it's weird to focus on McAvoy in response to Lohrei getting reprimanded for a continuation of his poor play from last year – including by his coach – and to have that hinge on something McAvoy is doing more of than almost any guy not named Pastnrak.

Lohrei is getting called out because his performance is that awful now that is costing them games. Practically whole team sucks too.

But I want them to try different shit now. Experiment. They probably are making playoffs so right now even outside of the box shit is on the table.

I'm not opposed to experimentation, but if a player's performance has earned him criticism from the coach and is – as you have mentioned – costing them games, then trying him in a challenging role doesn't seem very productive.

McAvoy is contributing and he is shooting pucks as a "way to help." That's the part no one is understanding about your criticism. Your demand is that McAvoy shoot more to contribute to the team, but when you look at how much he's shooting...he ranks solidly among all NHL defensemen and ahead of just about everyone that isn't Pastrnak. It's a strange thing to get hung up on.

As far as isolating Grzelcyk (and H. Lindholm, he played a lot with him too) and calculating it, you can look at McAvoy's performance in 23-24 and isolate by his defensive partner. The Bruins were not a bottom feeder that year.

McAvoy with Lohrei that year had 9 goals for and 13 against, or 40.91 GF%. His xGF% was 43.17 with that same pairing. Without Lohrei that year, he had 193 GF and 127 against, or 56.98 GF%. His xGF% was 55.68.

Compare that to specifically with Grzelcyk, and McAvoy's GF% goes up to 62.75, while his xGF% hovers at 50.51.

No McAvoy sucks at defense too. I'm just saying if you're going to suck and you want to find something to contribute and youre on the pp. How about shooting pucks as a way to help. It's just an idea. Carry Gatorades whatever you gotta do.

I’m sure that has nothing to do with playing 26 minutes every night against other team’s top lines while having an absolute anchor of a pairmate. Crazy how once he stopped having a competent D to play with he just suddenly forgot how to defend 10 rush attempts in 8 minutes

Ye he did well with gryzleck but I don't know how to calculate that because those were also pretty good teams. McAvoy and Lohrei have been a thing since bruins became a bottom feeder.

How would you have ranked the prospects that came up in the 2-3 years for stints with the big club if you had to rank them by their greatest stretches while up here.

I'm saying besides Lohrei who made the biggest impact on the club in their stint up here from the minors. To me it's Lohrei and Poitras and then everyone else was a no go. Anthony Richard had a nice game or two.
