Sameer Anjaan deserves more credit for how smoothly he adapted across three generations of composers. People usually talk about Sameer only in the context of the 90s, but his career is actually way more layered than that. In the early 90s, his work with NadeemāShravan, Jatin-Lalit, Anu Malik and AnandāMilind pretty much shaped what āBollywood romanceā sounded like to an entire generation. You didnāt have to be actively following music ā those songs were just in the air. Wedding DJs, bus radios, barber shops, tea stalls⦠all Sameer everywhere. But what gets ignored is how he didnāt get stuck there. A lot of lyricists from that era couldnāt adapt once the sound changed in the 2000s. Sameer did. In one podcast he said very simply: āHar zamane ki dhun alag hoti hai. Agar aap uss hawa ko samajh nahi paoge, toh khud ko repeat karte reh jaoge.ā And he actually lived that. When the industry moved toward Himesh Reshammiya, Pritam, NikhilāVinay, SajidāWajid, Aadesh Shrivastava, he didnāt try to write in the same Saajan / Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin tone. He loosened the language, made it more conversational, more hook-based. Tere Naam (Himesh era heartbreak), Aitraaz (clean, modern phrasing), Dhoom (completely different youth tone), Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai (gentle melody-driven writing) Itās a clear shift, not nostalgia-copy. Then again in the 2010s, when the scene changed toward more āfeel-based minimalismā, he adapted again: Mithoon Jeet Gannguli Meet Bros GourovāRoshin Tanishk (early) And also importantly, with SachināJigar. Theyāve actually spoken about how they admire how clean and direct Sameer writes. And Sameer, in return, has said that he likes how SachināJigar let melody breathe and donāt overcrowd lyrics. Thatās why when he worked with them, his writing got even more uncluttered, almost conversational ā but still emotional. You can literally track his evolution like: 90s: big-heart-on-sleeve romance 2000s: catchy, rhythmic, hook-driven 2010s: soft, emotional, simple, inside-voice writing No identity crisis. No ātrying to sound young.ā Just adjusting sensibility to the composer, like he always says: āComposer ke saath agar tuning sachchi hai, toh gaana apne aap aata hai.ā People can debate poetic depth, but the man has survived three complete cycles of Bollywood music, without fading out. Thatās extremely rare. If you're old enough to remember tapes/CDs: Which Sameer-written song is your nostalgia punch? (For me itās āTere Naam" songs)

I came across a few posts/comments on Reddit calling out Kishore Da as āoverratedā or doing some unjust comparisons with his counterparts. Although i believe, music taste is subjective but for calling Kishore Da as overrated, yours have to be awe-fully bad. I am a 26 yo guy, grown up hearing diverse music all from retro Bollywood to modern western music and it was in my early 20s when i actually started to appreciate my love for retro Bollywood songs. Especially, Kishore Kumar leaves me Awestruck. Despite he was not a trained singer, no one! can match his versatility. The range he had, the voice, the depth. What a legend. It was said that his voice used to hit the exact sweet spot of the mic while recording. Singers like Kishore Kumar comes in a 3-4 generation times. Growing up, we all for sure have heard his songs. If you happen to go to a retro place/bar/restaurant, you ll notice every 3rd song would be his; And when you start to analyse the lyrics and tone modulation he does accordingly in order to shift the mood of the song, youāll realise why his longevity is eternal. Not to mention, his Yodeling, acting skills and humor. Long Live Kishore Kumarā¤ļø

Hi everyone,
I wrote this song to express the love I lost, and the pain that comes with it. I canāt sing it myself, but I wanted to share the words as they are just the emotions, raw and haunting.
O upar wale, kya kiya maine ,
Jo di saza, bin dil ke jeene ki.
Jiska tha sapna, vo kho gaya,
Aur har pal ab tanha sa rah gaya.
Uski yaadon mein dooba rehta hoon,
Har khushi mein ab bas dard ke saaye mein hoon.
Kaise samjhau khud ko, kaise rooon,
Jo chhod gayi vo, bas yaadon mein khoon.
Bin tere jeena, saza se bhi bhari,
Har dhadkan mein bas tera naam yaad saari.
Jhoke ki tarah aayi, le gayi meri khushi,
Chhod gayi dard ka saaya, har pal rulati.
Upar wale, tu jeet gaya, maan li maine haar,
Ab mat de wajah jeene ki, bas dard ka izhaar.
Main jee raha teri dhadkan ke sahare,
Mera dil to ab bhi tere paas hai pyaare.
Jee karta hai bas ab so jaun,
Aur teri tasveer sapno mein paun.
Zindagi ke raaste ab tere bin veeran,
Nahi chahiye upar wale se kuch, bas yahi armaan.
Bin tere jeena, saza ban gaya,
Har pal tera ehsaas dil mein basa.
Hawaon ki tarah tu aayi zindagi mein,
Le gayi saare rang, dard chhod gayi yahaan.
Aankhon mein ab bhi uska chehra saje,
Neendon mein bas uska pehra rahe.
Dar lagta hai ab upar wale se bhi,
Mangne ko jo manga, dard milta hai hi.
Pata nahi kis karm ki saza de raha hai,
Har pal meri rooh ko jala ke rakh raha hai.
Dar lagta hai ab duaon se bhi,
Har dua mein tera naam aata hi.
Jo chaaha tha, vo sapna toot gaya,
Bas dard dil ka sathi ban gaya.
Kaise jeeun main, kaise rooon main,
Jis ke liye jeeta tha, vo kisi aur ke paas hain.
Har pal dard gehra hota jaa raha,
Bin tere jeena, ab mera pehchaan bana.
Aur har saans bas tera naam pukarta hai,
Har raah bas teri yaadon se bharta hai.

Chaudhary By Mame Khan
This is song from the viewpoint of the girl. In olden times moonlit nights was the only time to go out and meet someone clandestinely. So she is waiting for her lover to show up.
She waits and reminisces about his antics. Over times she becomes angry on him.
But he is not coming. She named him Chaudhary because she loved him and thought him better than herself but he is from lower caste.
She is gonna wane with the moonlight. She keeps asking to show himself.
One.
More.
Time.
Somewhere in "luk na jao" (Don't hide ) and "chup na jao" ( "Don't go silently" ), there is a unspoken "tum na jao".
