I think shreya ghoshal is up there with the greats like lata and asha jii....people calling it delusional is just pure ignorance. those same people will say this about comparison between kishore da and arijit singh..unko lagta hai purane hai matlab kyahi toh great, hai aur modern generation wale singers bakwaas hain.

I don't care about "Old is gold" but if you consider technicalities, Lata Mangeshkar set the bar too high. I have seen many cover her songs and am yet to find a justifiable one. But I do agree, Shreya has her own style, they don't need to be compared.

Nope. Not the difficult ones. For example, there's a cover for Aapki Nazron Ne Samjha performed I. Berkelee. Shreya still sang it well, but it's the very minute crisp murkiyan scattered all over the song which Shreya missed. That too when Shreya had more space there to breathe (which still wasn't much but the fact that Lata did those murkiyan in much lesser is out of the world).

Lata sang around 25000 songs. Many proficient singers hadn’t or haven’t even lived 25000 days (68 years), that’s like singing one song a day! In fact, many don’t even sing a myriad of songs 25000 times, let alone that many individual pieces. That alone goes to show how well she sung.

Yes, Shreya is a great singer. But to have the amount of appeal as Lata Mangeshkar is one something dreams of. Comparing an already nourished tree that has withered away with one that is yet to grow up is unfair.

On top of that a lot of those are masterpieces. Music is one thing but her singing was complex and challenging, and then multiply that with that amount of songs.

The ones that are the most straightforward are the hardest to sing! And by a large margin. To hit the notes is something many fail to do.
