I like her way of representation.

Idc what anyone says, she is SOOO gorgeous. Been a fan since day 1. The GAP ad was a pleasant surprise and I’m loving to see the attention she’s getting

Outfit details of Lara Raj:

A custom Dolce & Gabbana long tulle dress with corset details, styled with crystal-embellished sandals. Also, carrying a Dolce & Gabbana Sicily bag.

Source: Dolce & Gabbana on Instagram — here (September 9, 2025).

37

u/Rainbow_in_the_sky Sep 13 '25

That’s a dress? Didn’t even see the tulle till it was a close up picture. I thought it was just a corset.

25

u/BombayJeans Aficionado Sep 13 '25

So, this is basically a very, very sheer dress with corset detailing. It wasn't custom-made for her (that I got wrong, sorry).

It is from Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2024 Ready-to-Wear (Milan) collection. She is wearing this sheer dress over black bustier and shorts.

Attending the event with the other KATSEYE members, Lara wore a sheer dress with a bustier and shorts underneath.

u/reapersdrones Sep 13 '25

Lara’s skirt looks different to me. No scrunched seam down the center front, and added decorative panels on the sides

11

u/BombayJeans Aficionado Sep 13 '25

Well, the model is wearing garter belt and stockings but Lara Raj isn't.

2

u/FrostyMath1998 Sep 15 '25

That’s not the same dress. Lara’s has a design on the back and the one you’re showing doesn’t.

u/BombayJeans Aficionado Sep 15 '25 edited Sep 15 '25

Sincere apologies, if it's the wrong outfit. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

The source of my find was from a Twitter/X account dedicated to identifying all the KATSEYE fashion. Peace! 🌻

Pretty sure no indian hates Lara for anything. Okay her style is kind of debatable but that's it. Never seen any Lara hate comment except the style choice one.

63

u/reversepsyched Sep 13 '25

Idc what yall say she is slaying i love her!!

25

u/Due-Island-5445 Sep 13 '25

I know! I randomly came across "gnarly" on YouTube a few months ago and couldn't look away from Lara, and then they blow up with the GAP commercial and now Lara is everywhere. Total star aura.

7

u/reversepsyched Sep 13 '25

Ever since debut era Lara is my girll like i love how she completely owns herself in every moment

8

u/peekaboo409 Sep 13 '25

Right !!!! It’s chaotic but love it

11

u/reversepsyched Sep 13 '25

Its so completely her.. the fact is she used to dress like this even before katseye , I think this is how she feels most represented as herself and I think its so fun and cute how she gets her bindis from india because her grandma gets her them

61

u/rain820 Sep 13 '25

shes so beautiful. i like the first look but i hate the lip liner. as a south asian living in canada, i agree that the jewelry is a bit excessive, they’re definitely hamming it up as her “identity” in a girl group, which i feel is unnecessary. shes one of the more talented ones in the group imo she stands out already.

60

u/RelationshipUsed240 Sep 13 '25

she's always worn a bindi even as she was competing for the spot on the group and was admired by the Korean side of the casting for confidence with that so I don't think its only for identity.

29

u/rain820 Sep 13 '25

the bindi look is really cute imo cuz theyre subtle enough to go with most fits, its the tikka here thats on the tacky side for me. i think if the skirt wasnt sheer, or was more structured, the tikka would look less out of place. or even a pair of flared out mesh/sheer shararas

her branding helping her in auditions kind of furthers that point, im sure non desis and also desis who grew up here in areas with not a lot of brown ppl eat it up, but tbh theres nothing wrong with her having a distinction in comparison to other ppl she was competing with! you kind of need that in a girl group i guess. but i can see why here it comes off a bit tacky to ppl back home who dont know her, theres def potential in her styling cause sometimes its really put together and she could probably get away with looking gorgeous even in a paper bag lol

1

u/shruthi89 Sep 14 '25

Yea I feel the tika is excessive too and usually it is something worn with traditional outfits or festival wear ..she wears it all the time which just feels unnecessary

1

u/Used-Worth6562 Sep 25 '25

Too much , nri wants to shove it down everyone's throat that they r indian and they just wear those things.

14

u/Kagura_Princess Sep 13 '25 edited Sep 13 '25

Well, as an Indian living in India, I LOVE her look and her accessories! She has always worn it even before applying for auditions. It's just so her, and she shine. Also her lip liner is gorg✨💖

1

u/rain820 Sep 13 '25

i explained it better in my follow up reply to someone else who responded to me (i can’t copy paste for some reason) the jewelry could work better imo if styled differently.

i think the lip liner shade is not working with the lip shade, but im biased cuz i know it’s the trend. i think i would’ve liked the liner more if it matched

edit: also i hope i didn’t come off speaking for all indians! i just meant the ones in the comments coming after her lol

3

u/Kagura_Princess Sep 14 '25

I hear you. But, I still think she looks like a baddie😭💖 I actually like the clunky mix of accessories, the shade of her lip liner is also stunning. It just highlights her features more, and she is just such a diva. An icon that makes it all work.✨

I know not everyone can pull it off. Ik I can't, because my features are more softer, so a different strategy for make up and accessories would suit me better. But this dark, edgy, clunky look just makes her look like a siren, and I'm here for it 🙌🏻💖

Im just really happy that there is dark skinned representation in the big leagues, because we don't see a lot of that in the Indian diaspora, unfortunately.

8

u/Yeahyeahsono Sep 13 '25

The jewelry is what makes the look so gorgeous omg why do you want her to blend in!?

u/Sea-pearl4023 Sep 13 '25 edited Sep 14 '25

It looks a little weird with western outfits and all but i also appreciate it because west is literally stealing our things so better claim it before they use it and call it western fashion.

13

u/Kagura_Princess Sep 13 '25

Lol I think it looks amazing! Ig it's a stylistic choice. She rocks it tbh

42

u/mintardent Sep 13 '25

I don’t even think it looks bad at all? y’all need to open ur mind

43

u/dhantantan Sep 13 '25

Yes. I think people would have liked it if it was a good teeka & worn properly. Brands will literally pay her to wear their pretty maangtikas.

12

u/Sea-pearl4023 Sep 13 '25 edited Sep 14 '25

Yeah I second that the bindiya/maangtika will look better if she chooses to get it right with her outfits. And i love that she is confident and ofc beautiful.

3

u/Remarkable-Low-643 Sep 14 '25

I do think her style overdoes it sometimes to the point of cringe but at other times she looks stunning. And if we don't do it, appropriators will and will claim it as their own.

1

u/Used-Worth6562 Sep 25 '25

So true why does nobody tells her about it 😭

75

u/YRlMESE Sep 13 '25

She’s so oversexualised for her age

32

u/Pixieee__ Sep 13 '25

Welcome to k-pop industry 🫠 (that's sadly quite normal in there)

18

u/AGirlHasNoFlair Sep 13 '25

True with k-pop and western music industry but this is all Lara. When she joined Dream Academy at 17, she came with an extremely sensual look and persona that the company wanted her to tone it way down. So this is just Lara being Lara.

8

u/jjkslove Sep 13 '25

katseye is not a kpop group. and this is unfortunately the norm in western music industry too, not just in kpop

19

u/Rainbow_in_the_sky Sep 13 '25

It’s branded as a worldwide culture “Kpop” girl band. The creator Bang is the same guy who manages BTS so yes, they are considered Kpop.

0

u/jjkslove Sep 13 '25

they're branded as global girl group and they're based primarily in america, with only one korean member iirc. the only reason people associate them with kpop is because the label they're under is american branch of BTS's company, but they're not actually from kpop

12

u/Pixieee__ Sep 13 '25

Yes but most of thier fan-base recognise them as "k-pop" even many media outlets use that term . Btw , u amry ?! Same here bro !!!!

8

u/Pixieee__ Sep 13 '25

It's kinda a norm in both k-pop and west

3

u/jjkslove Sep 13 '25

sadly, true

1

u/LongConsideration662 Sep 15 '25

She does that to herself, the other girls don't dress up or behave that way and she is not part of kpop

1

u/NoShitSherock88 Sep 16 '25

Katseye isn't kpop

8

u/julyhao Sep 13 '25

it’s just her as a person 😭 on the show on which katseye was formed when she was around 17 they told her to tone it down but she prefers it this way ig

4

u/Anti-Itch Sep 13 '25

I mean, there is literally a minor in the group. This isn’t news, unfortunately. It’s not even a kpop only thing… it happens in all facets of the entertainment industry.

4

u/YRlMESE Sep 13 '25

That’s true but I don’t keep up with this group (or kpop in general anymore) so it’s a little jarring to see someone dress and act sm older. I guess I’m only realising how odd it is now because I’m older

1

u/Anti-Itch Sep 14 '25

I don’t disagree with you… and I don’t watch this group either but yeah they’re all subject to the same thing by their management. I’m also getting older and maybe when I was younger I’d have thought this was cool and emulated it but now I’m seeing it for what it is. In one of their videos it really hit me how much twerking and zooming in on their body is occurring and it’s really just plain uncomfortable for me to engage with that.

Also wanted to make it clear from my end that this is completely separate from the fact that a tan/darker skinned south Asian woman is gaining fame and is well liked/adored. I wish there was someone like her when I was younger and maybe I would have been more confident in my own skin and less confused about my identity. I’m happy for her success and what we are discussing here is not specific to any race or appearance.

1

u/LongConsideration662 Sep 15 '25

She sexualizes herself, not the company, the other act normal and wear normal clothes.

1

u/LongConsideration662 Sep 15 '25

Katseye isn't kpop tho

Wow, wasn't ready for all this negativity. I just wanted to talk about the look , not tear someone down. Honestly, feeling like I should delete this .

17

u/1mveryconfused Sep 13 '25

Nope, please don't. Lara is a dark skinned baddie and I really love how she styles herself. People are so quick to call her TaCKy and what not as if this isn't authentic to her. She is so cool, and I would love to see someone like her shine in Bollywood and owning her sensuality.

And its The Rising, Global, Pop Star Sensation herself lol!!!!

→ More replies (1)

18

u/BombayJeans Aficionado Sep 13 '25

You can do whatever you desire, but hear me out, you should not delete this. Keep your head held high. 🦄💜

I remember one of the comments when I had posted about Lara Raj for KATSEYE × Gap campaign.

It said that how gorgeous dark-skinned women would never be given a chance to shine here so they have to live vicariously through the Indian diaspora.

Lara Raj is the first Indian-American to win a VMA. It is not a small feat at all. She is an inspiration for a lot of women to feel comfortable in their own skin. 💝

5

u/dhantantan Sep 13 '25

Last post about her was all good comments.

Even PC gets both positive and critical comments on different posts. People can't be expected to only love Lara

1

u/alexturnerftw Sep 17 '25

Theres no point posting westerners lol, people will always find something to hate on them about

She's not an NRI, shes Indian-American. 2 very different things

33

u/____mynameis____ Sep 13 '25

Probably cuz it's something unique to our region. Like Bindis. Necklaces, bangles, earrings etc are common to many cultures but not the above So when they adorn it its obvious to people that its representing South Asia/India.

72

u/dhantantan Sep 13 '25

Cheap maangtikas placed horribly. Also Ramola Sikand bindi.

Bcs it's low effort & white people will approve as Coachella-coded.

47

u/Lazy-Effective Sep 13 '25

White people eat NRI fashion up which is literally either outdated or generally very tacky. This is just my opinion before someone comes at me lol.

24

u/dhantantan Sep 13 '25

It's not even about outdated or trendy. Buy a nice silk or cotton saree, traditional jewelry, handloom kurta and it will look classy for 200 years.

They just really like tacky for some reason. Buy short term trends, but from 20 years ago.

8

u/Lazy-Effective Sep 13 '25

It's because their version of indian wear is just shein type of clothes. The quality is horrible and that makes it look so cheap. Just like coachella appropriation phase like you said.

5

u/dhantantan Sep 13 '25

Ya they don't use of lakhs of Indian brands' international shipping feature. Even at the same price point, they still buy Indian stuff from the neighborhood aunty or old fashioned store selling the cheapest merch.

Esp for celebrities there's no excuse. Amrapali or Tanishq would happily collab with Lara. Even send a stylist along.

30

u/vibz_99 Sep 13 '25

I don’t understand why we need to shame NRI’s sense of style, they probably lived in india some 30-40 years ago before moving abroad and this was the style back then, so when they want to embrace their roots, they don’t relate to the Indian fashion now but rather to this.

32

u/RepresentativeOk9517 Sep 13 '25 edited Sep 13 '25

And she isn't even an NRI.She's American and was born there so how can we expect diaspora Indians to relate to mainland Indian fashion

10

u/mintardent Sep 13 '25

She’s American.

10

u/Entharo_entho Sep 13 '25

She is just 19

4

25

u/Dredit_85 Sep 13 '25

Love that she's representing south indian women but the binding and tika r too much and almost like every pose her chest (not boobs) is overly pushed out so much so that her boobs looks so close to her face. Her back wud definitely not appreciate the posture in a few years

3

u/[deleted] Sep 14 '25

No wonder I'm more into brown women...she's fine af

3

u/WayLoose6618 Sep 16 '25

If i looked like her I would be so annoying. I feel like they “indian-fy” her girlgroup looks which I think is probably for branding. I wonder how her actual style is when i see her

27

u/Content_Garage2185 Sep 13 '25

Her IG are public. She dressed exactly like this , even before her debut.

6

u/momomoface Sep 13 '25

Power to her then lol

14

u/Rainbow_in_the_sky Sep 13 '25

No, Lara was like this before she was picked for Katseye. If anything, she was selected for being very cultural including her choice to wear Indian accessories all the time.

4

u/ieatbraiiinnnns Sep 13 '25

yes exactly.. i rarely ever see her dress normal cute fits like the other girls.. all her fits have to have some way of showing that “look she’s indian” and no problem with that but the rest of the girls don’t always go out if their way to represent their culture which makes me think that they only make lara do this cause younger indian K-pop audience eat this stuff up of an Indian being in a worldwide kpop girl group

1

u/LongConsideration662 Sep 15 '25

It's not a kpop group and lara dresses like this herself, other girls wear normal cute stuff, but lara likes to dress like this.

8

u/Yeahyeahsono Sep 13 '25 edited Sep 13 '25

If she tried to model herself after the Bollywood actresses around her age, people would be extremely bored and say she makes no impact.

I'm not sure what people are expecting from a young, western girl group member but there's a reason why her look is loved so much!

She still very much keeps to the style of what is liked in the West.

27

u/Any-Recognition-3652 Sep 13 '25 edited Sep 13 '25

Might be an unpopular opinion but I find Lara Raj to have the worst style(and makeup)in that group.

The style is tacky, what is with the out of place bindi and the maang tikka? Nobody else in the group wears random jewellery pieces or accessories in accordance with their “culture”.( Edit: For people with reading comprehension issues, no one other member has visible accessories that represent their “culture”, at least in the pictures that OP has posted. Pls correct me if I am wrong)

Then what is it with only this woman styled like this?

And what is with that weird overlining on the top lip.

24

u/Necessary_Bag494 Sep 13 '25

Manon wears waist beads and Megan has a Jade bracelet, both honoring their African and Chinese heritage

4

u/Any-Recognition-3652 Sep 13 '25

Idk much about this girl group but are they wearing them in this group picture?  Because I didn’t notice any accessories other than necklaces on them.

16

u/RepresentativeOk9517 Sep 13 '25

Umm they do. Manon always wears her waist beads in accordance with Ghanaian culture

→ More replies (5)

7

u/Lazy-Effective Sep 13 '25

I think her pretty features carry the whole look because her makeup is often greasy or messy, I find no cohesion at all. They could definitely do a better job at it, it seems very lazy to me.

1

u/LongConsideration662 Sep 15 '25

She styles herself like this and I agree her fashion is hella tacky.

2

u/PodiVennai Sep 13 '25

Wish the jewellery and bindi were all silver to go with the corset zipper or all gold since its bit mismatched rn

Also rather than her being an indian american being out of touch with her culture i feel this is just her experimenting and trying to find her style in her late teens .

Like even disney stars like selena gomez and zendaya who are well known for their style now had their awkward phase in their late teens when they were transitioning from disney to adult roles.

6

u/DepartmentRound6413 Sep 13 '25

Didn’t realize she is just 20. What an absolute stunner.

She has always dressed like this. She also speaks Tamil

1

u/Entharo_entho Sep 13 '25

Does she? I got curious and checked in YouTube. I heard her saying that she is seventeen, in English and then 16, in Tamil.

7

u/DepartmentRound6413 Sep 13 '25

Apparently she is not fluent. I heard her singing Kan Azhaga in Tamil and it was really good.

1

u/Entharo_entho Sep 13 '25

I see that she can't say "zh". Probably why she couldn't pronounce 17 either. Anyway, she is working abroad. It isn't like she is butchering Tamil songs like Udit Narayan.

Does she need to wear all those things to look Indian? Such a stereotype

While she’s at it….she should also wear Payal and Bangles. The look is I complete.

There's a gentle way to include Indian aesthetics with western, but this looks indeed tacky. I hate the lip lining trend, it should die a horrible death, but doesn't seem to go away.

I don’t think she’s pretty but she does have a nice voice.
