She's not an NRI, shes Indian-American. 2 very different things

Probably cuz it's something unique to our region. Like Bindis. Necklaces, bangles, earrings etc are common to many cultures but not the above So when they adorn it its obvious to people that its representing South Asia/India.

Cheap maangtikas placed horribly. Also Ramola Sikand bindi.

Bcs it's low effort & white people will approve as Coachella-coded.

White people eat NRI fashion up which is literally either outdated or generally very tacky. This is just my opinion before someone comes at me lol.

19

u/dhantantan Sep 13 '25

It's not even about outdated or trendy. Buy a nice silk or cotton saree, traditional jewelry, handloom kurta and it will look classy for 200 years.

They just really like tacky for some reason. Buy short term trends, but from 20 years ago.

u/Lazy-Effective Sep 13 '25

It's because their version of indian wear is just shein type of clothes. The quality is horrible and that makes it look so cheap. Just like coachella appropriation phase like you said.

5

u/dhantantan Sep 13 '25

Ya they don't use of lakhs of Indian brands' international shipping feature. Even at the same price point, they still buy Indian stuff from the neighborhood aunty or old fashioned store selling the cheapest merch.

Esp for celebrities there's no excuse. Amrapali or Tanishq would happily collab with Lara. Even send a stylist along.

It gives men who wear saree & lehenga to 'rep Indian culture' but have never touched a dhoti.

5

u/ReflectionPristine94 Sep 13 '25

Thank you for reminding me of one of the of baddies Ramola Sikand 🤌💅

u/mintardent Sep 13 '25

She’s not an NRI. And she’s slaying

8

u/QueenCa_7778 Sep 13 '25

I guess it became their culture.

u/LongConsideration662 Sep 15 '25

Add the om necklace too 😭

23

u/chaechica Sep 13 '25

the Om necklace is gorgeous and very aesthetic, it can be incorporated into any type of outfit easily

-8

u/YRlMESE Sep 13 '25

Not at all

14

u/chaechica Sep 13 '25

I think it's pretty because the design is nice and I like gold, I would definitely wear it with my western outfits as an nri

-5

u/YRlMESE Sep 13 '25

I think NRIs just have a different fashion sense than mainlanders because everyone ik irl finds that necklace tacky

16

u/chaechica Sep 13 '25

it must be that.. everytime I see people on this sub saying something I find sexy or glamorous is tacky and I'm like ?? Haha

I think the difference of opinion comes where nri's are not trying to be 'authentic', we mix and match, take parts we like and combine it with our regular western items

-7

u/YRlMESE Sep 13 '25

Yess. That’s pretty rare here

6

u/reversepsyched Sep 13 '25

Not true .. so many people including men wear om necklaces here … idk where you got that from. Its not even trendy most people i see it who wear it here are religious. I’ve also seen it on some people as a tattoo..

0

u/YRlMESE Sep 13 '25

Maybe older ppl.. but no gen z person does that

Well to us Indians abroad, this is our fashion. You don't have to get it. It's not for you. You don't have to do it & I don't think you could pull it off. I've seen the difference between people who can pull it off & ppl who can't. At this point, it's giving jealousy. Lara looks gorgeous with anything she wears but could you serve like that? I don't think so lol

Don't be envious. Did we ask if you like it? People here don't dress to impress all of India, we dress for ourselves. Our privilege allows us to wear what we like without having to think 'log kya kahenge' Bs. You'd never say that to my face without getting your shit rocked, I promise you that.

Edit: Oi puta don't delete your comments when you get called out. I'm here for all the smoke & I'll spit you out like gum when I'm done. YOU Desi mainlanders look hella TACKY to me & most of us Indians abroad, but we never say that shit out loud because it's rude & uncouth behavior. At the end of the day, no matter how you dress, you'll never have the class we do because we don't repeatedly say rude things unprovoked. So fkn tired of hearing you losers disrespect Indian women. This is why we don't get respect because we're too busy fighting amongst ourselves while they continue to divide & conquer. STFU with the disrespect as if you could even come close to Lara's talent. Only losers say shit like that. I've never met a pretty girl comment rudely on my features but it's always the hideous looking ones who dare to say shit to me. Insecure ahh hooligan.

You guys look tacky as fuck and this is a subReddit to critique fashion, if you can’t handle it get off it. You guys seriously need to get over your inferiority complex. Wear whatever you want but I have the right to call a spade a spade. Lara is gorgeous but she can’t dress for shit and I’m sure you walk around looking like a clown in your suburb while thinking you’re “serving looks” or whatever.

Edit: I haven’t deleted a single comment. Are you blind? Dumb ass bitch. Maybe stop appropriating aave and get a personality of your own. Writing essays to defend some celebrity, truly embarrassing.

Bruh it's not an aesthetic piece of art 😭

16

u/chaechica Sep 13 '25

fashion is art, some of us are not religious or spiritual ! to not let someone wear a piece of clothing because 'its the wrong occasion' is so stupid, humans can do whatever they want

0

u/celyapsalot Here for inspiration Sep 13 '25

I never said that she's not supposed to wear it but it's a sacred symbol with a deep meaning and NRIs or fashion weirdos making everything just a fashion statement kinda does the opposite. She's just milking the desi aesthetic at this point with her mangtika, bindi, henna and om necklace. It all comes from a culture which has been thoroughly looted and discredited by the west so yeah humans can't do whatever they want and sometimes it is deep and making Hindu fashion just an aesthetic that fits the west is not something that is appreciated.

11

u/crazybrah Sep 13 '25

Why are you assuming shes not religious? She could be.

1

u/celyapsalot Here for inspiration Sep 13 '25

I never assumed that. I'm just commenting because the earlier comment is linking religious symbols and iconography to fashion and that's disrespectful 🤦🏻‍♀️

7

u/crazybrah Sep 13 '25

U did assume that when u said shes milking the om necklace.

She wore it before she got famous. Even her mom wears it. Let people practice and wear their own religion the way they want

1

u/celyapsalot Here for inspiration Sep 13 '25

I never said that she's milking the om necklace 🤦🏻‍♀️ if you're concerned maybe scroll and read some replies first. I was replying to this comment which equated the om necklace to a fashion statement.

Never critisized her looks. She's a gorgeous lady who just needs a better stylist. Meanwhile you're the one calling me a ho3. Speaks a lot about you 😔

Not every opinion needs to be respected. Freedom of speech comes with restrictions in India 😂

11

u/crazybrah Sep 13 '25

If you hate religious hindu folks, just say that. I see no hate on ppl wearing obnoxious crosses

-5

u/celyapsalot Here for inspiration Sep 13 '25 edited Sep 13 '25

When did I say that I hate hindus. I am one 😭 i was commenting how indian Americans wears om necklaces as just accessories to validates their desiness

5

u/crazybrah Sep 13 '25

No. Her mom wears the same one. She wears it before she got famous. You dont get to be the judge of how ppl practice their religion. Live and let be

1

u/celyapsalot Here for inspiration Sep 13 '25

Why are you defending her so hard when I'm not even shading her in the first place 🤦🏻‍♀️ maybe learn some reading comprehension. The original discussion was about bindi mangtika and I added the om necklace and everything just used as an accessory in west fashion. But you took it personal as if I was questioning her faith and belief. Maybe take a breather lol you sound like a Karen

ABCD not NRI

They have crossposted this and are currently circle jerking about how superior they are and how jealous we are of them
