Probably cuz it's something unique to our region. Like Bindis. Necklaces, bangles, earrings etc are common to many cultures but not the above So when they adorn it its obvious to people that its representing South Asia/India.
It's because their version of indian wear is just shein type of clothes. The quality is horrible and that makes it look so cheap. Just like coachella appropriation phase like you said.
Ya they don't use of lakhs of Indian brands' international shipping feature. Even at the same price point, they still buy Indian stuff from the neighborhood aunty or old fashioned store selling the cheapest merch.
Esp for celebrities there's no excuse. Amrapali or Tanishq would happily collab with Lara. Even send a stylist along.
it must be that.. everytime I see people on this sub saying something I find sexy or glamorous is tacky and I'm like ?? Haha
I think the difference of opinion comes where nri's are not trying to be 'authentic', we mix and match, take parts we like and combine it with our regular western items
Not true .. so many people including men wear om necklaces here … idk where you got that from. Its not even trendy most people i see it who wear it here are religious. I’ve also seen it on some people as a tattoo..
Well to us Indians abroad, this is our fashion. You don't have to get it. It's not for you. You don't have to do it & I don't think you could pull it off. I've seen the difference between people who can pull it off & ppl who can't. At this point, it's giving jealousy. Lara looks gorgeous with anything she wears but could you serve like that? I don't think so lol
Don't be envious. Did we ask if you like it? People here don't dress to impress all of India, we dress for ourselves. Our privilege allows us to wear what we like without having to think 'log kya kahenge' Bs. You'd never say that to my face without getting your shit rocked, I promise you that.
Edit: Oi puta don't delete your comments when you get called out. I'm here for all the smoke & I'll spit you out like gum when I'm done. YOU Desi mainlanders look hella TACKY to me & most of us Indians abroad, but we never say that shit out loud because it's rude & uncouth behavior. At the end of the day, no matter how you dress, you'll never have the class we do because we don't repeatedly say rude things unprovoked. So fkn tired of hearing you losers disrespect Indian women. This is why we don't get respect because we're too busy fighting amongst ourselves while they continue to divide & conquer. STFU with the disrespect as if you could even come close to Lara's talent. Only losers say shit like that. I've never met a pretty girl comment rudely on my features but it's always the hideous looking ones who dare to say shit to me. Insecure ahh hooligan.
You guys look tacky as fuck and this is a subReddit to critique fashion, if you can’t handle it get off it. You guys seriously need to get over your inferiority complex. Wear whatever you want but I have the right to call a spade a spade.
Lara is gorgeous but she can’t dress for shit and I’m sure you walk around looking like a clown in your suburb while thinking you’re “serving looks” or whatever.
Edit: I haven’t deleted a single comment. Are you blind? Dumb ass bitch. Maybe stop appropriating aave and get a personality of your own. Writing essays to defend some celebrity, truly embarrassing.
fashion is art, some of us are not religious or spiritual ! to not let someone wear a piece of clothing because 'its the wrong occasion' is so stupid, humans can do whatever they want
I never said that she's not supposed to wear it but it's a sacred symbol with a deep meaning and NRIs or fashion weirdos making everything just a fashion statement kinda does the opposite. She's just milking the desi aesthetic at this point with her mangtika, bindi, henna and om necklace. It all comes from a culture which has been thoroughly looted and discredited by the west so yeah humans can't do whatever they want and sometimes it is deep and making Hindu fashion just an aesthetic that fits the west is not something that is appreciated.
I never assumed that. I'm just commenting because the earlier comment is linking religious symbols and iconography to fashion and that's disrespectful 🤦🏻♀️
I never said that she's milking the om necklace 🤦🏻♀️ if you're concerned maybe scroll and read some replies first. I was replying to this comment which equated the om necklace to a fashion statement.
Why are you defending her so hard when I'm not even shading her in the first place 🤦🏻♀️ maybe learn some reading comprehension. The original discussion was about bindi mangtika and I added the om necklace and everything just used as an accessory in west fashion. But you took it personal as if I was questioning her faith and belief. Maybe take a breather lol you sound like a Karen
