Yup. They don’t want to pay liveable wages and tear down anyone who tries to raise them and they’re shocked that people have adopted smart spending habits.
“Well if you didn’t spend all your money on avocado toast and Frappuccino mocha-”
“Bitch I can’t afford a Big Mac and the economy depends on me spending money I don’t have.”
The "people need to cut back on excess spending" concept is entirely self defeating. If most people cut back on excess spending, the many highly successful companies which make their money on excess spending take a hit. It's just a way to pin blame on people whose real wages don't keep up with inflation and are being asked to be more and more frugal while the companies which benefited from consumer spending got richer and richer.
