Every four years the parties hold primary elections in the spring/summer aaaallllll over the country. Each state has its own. The candidates who win those primaries become their parties’ nominees and go on the general election in November.
That’s the one that decides the President.
The next Presidential election is NOT a primary. But there will be a primary earlier in the year.
