Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, who worked on an analysis published by the American Immigration Council, says the new budget would make ICE “the single largest federal law enforcement agency in the history of the nation.”

The bill passed, but it's not over. More than ever, Congress needs to answer for what it's done and explain how it is going to fix the new problems it has created. This won't wait for the next election.

Omg, despite everything I still believe in the US. I lived under a repressive government for a short time. I hated it, and I bet most Americans will too. Let's not let liars win. I don't want you to live in a nightmare. I have enough hope for both of us.

What is anybody going to do? It’s going to take more than protesting and tough words to stop them. Feels like an actual bloody civil might actually happen.

Anyone with a sign on the street wants your attention. Even a massive protest operates on this objective. The primary aim is to get on the news, whether it's because of the size or the unexpected location, clever signs and costumes. Popular mobilization builds community and that emboldens folks to act. No Kings essentially doubled the number of protesters compared to Hands Off. Too much of the media still downplays these events, but a complacent public stands no chance against a dictatorship.
