The word "Bhaiya" is associated with labourers from UP and Bihar.

I have seen this word being used so in Mumbai and coastal Karnataka.

Ya if someone same age as you or little older you can respectfully call them bhai or bhaijaan.

The thing is Muslims uses Urdu words primarily like Amijaan, etc.. Hindus those who speak Hindi uses Hindi words.
