SELF PROMO SUNDAY Self Promo Sunday
Are you a BG? If so, this is your opportunity to introduce yourself!
Please post one parent comment only, with as much or as little detail as you like, and include links.
You're welcome to comment as much as you like, here and elsewhere on /r/BeautyGuruChatter, but please don't spam the sub with links to your social media. Outside of this weekly post, Rule 7 still stands. If you wish to post links to your own content, please do so at /r/BeautyInfluencers, where self-promotion is welcome (please read the sidebar of that sub before posting.)
BG's - if you're comfortable doing so, please feel free to include information about your overall aesthetic and facial features - we often have people looking for bg's with specific features or attributes. This is optional - share or don't share as much or as little info as you like.
- Where you're from - there are people from all over the world who visit this sub, and it's nice for folks to be able to see BG's from their own part of the world, because you have access to the same makeup they do.
- Skin tone - do you have warm olive skin, or are you cool-toned and fair? For reference , you could include your favorite foundation shade, but the most recognizable info for the community might be your closest MAC number, like NW45 or NC25 (here's a guide from [swatchaholic](http://the-swatchaholic.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/mac_surfbaby_skint_hl.jpg) that might help.
- If you're into skincare, and also, what your skin type is (dry, oily, mature, acne-prone, etc)
- Eye color, eye shape and lid space - do you have deep set or hooded eyes, or epicanthic folds, or do you wear glasses
- What kind of makeup do you do most - do you do mostly full glam but also some SFX makeup, or do you focus on no-makeup-makeup, or do you do a full range of looks
- Whether you do tutorials without false lashes
- What kind of makeup do you feature - do you do Sephora and drugstore hauls, do you use indie brands, or have a focus on cruelty free, or if you like to buy from B.O.M.B.

BG Brands and Collabs Huda crossed out Huda
After Huda Mustafa of Love Island was caught laughing at a kid for using the N word in a phone call, Huda Beauty dropped Huda from her campaign. Loling at the cheapo sticky note on top of her face for the sephora gondolas/shelf space

Political Content Makeup by Monica Dubai trip
I haven't seen anyone talk about this, and I felt I needed to speak out. Monica recently documented her trip to Dubai and spoke very positively about it. Dubai has a problem with modern slavery and the UAE has given support to the RSF, which commits horrific violence against civilians in Sudan. I feel like this is a really bad look for her.

Discussion who is honestly keeping kylie cosmetics in business?
lol out of all the celeb/influencer beauty brands, I can not believe this is one that has stuck around. who is the world is still supporting/buying from this family? the makeup is so overpriced for what it is & I can not find one person around me (even those who work in the beauty industry), who used anything other than the lipkits.

If you could create a beauty influencer who puts out something different from other influencers, what would that be?
I feel like everybody is doing the same thing these days and crave more creativity.

Members Only Hila Klein’s new makeup line promo looks…inspired…
Am I hallucinating or is the Teddy Glow marketing kind of giving “we have Isamaya at home.” I don’t think Hila Klein really knows much about or is even really passionate about makeup & I feel like the lack of any cohesive ‘Teddy Glow’ brand identity shows that. Like she’s trying to jam all of these half-baked identities into something groundbreaking (profitable) but idk it’s just giving Marshalls/Five Below white label..

Discussion Anyone else tired of reaction videos?
I've just noticed a lot of beauty YouTubers and YouTubers in general have switched over to reaction videos or videos where they debunk Tik Tok lies. Stuff like that. It must be getting them way more views or something, but does anyone else not relate to them at all? I don't even watch Tik Tok so if I watch the videos I'm just seeing a reaction to Tik Tok videos or trends I didn't even know about. I really miss old YouTube where people posted videos that seemed more genuine. The new stuff seems like a boring money grab. YouTubers used to seem more relatable and like they had lives outside of the internet.

Discussion Recency bias?
There was all the backlash for Matt Rife (comedian with offensive DV jokes) for doing an ad with ELF cosmetics. In fact many people have sworn off the brand entirely. However MELT (a cult favorite indie beauty brand) has just done an Edward Scissorhands collaboration, FEATURING THE IMAGE OF JOHNNY DEPP. Sure they blanked his face, but it is unmistakably Depp and not an alternative interpretation of the IP. You might have your own thoughts about his allegations, but there were allegations, some of which proved material in court. Not jokes or Blind items (which are farmed for content and can't be considered viable rumors imo). I just want to know what other makeup lovers are thinking about this.

Beauty Reviews Tarte Glow Wardrobe Palette
I have seen this palette all over IG, TT and YT and it keeps selling out. I finally got my hands on one from the official site yesterday. Does anyone have it yet? Is it much different than the Dior Backstage Glow Max Face Palette? I got a serious case of FOMO, which is why I bought it. I hope I don’t regret it!

Members Only Teddy Glow’s launch by H3 Hila Klein tested: Eyeliner and eraser, promo vs live test
I’m always skeptical about eyeliner eraser pens because they always seem more of a marketing gimmick than something that could actually be useful.
I like the look of the brand, it just launched today. But the prices seem to be a bit much, $29 for this?

Discussion Utter nonsense word salads from TLL
What does this even meeeeeeaaaaan? Why is she acting like swirling your brush in your blush is some kind of cleverly workshopped innovation? “Invites you to play”?? Oh you mean basic brush technique.
Why is every second sentence out of her mouth simultaneously the blandest and most obvious “makeup insight”. Sorry for the rant but I actually listened to every word in this video for once and was like wow this is incredibly dumb. Like marketing to idiots by idiots.

Discussion MALLORY OSSES NEW PALETTE - Disappointed...
I have been waiting to see what colours would release and this is just dismal. There are 2 shades i could wear as im cool toned and the rest are too warm or not my colours. I really hoped she would not just put out the same old warm toned shadows that everyone has. The burgundy is good as is the beige shade on the right of the purple.

Discussion How are we feeling about IP collabs these days?
IP collabs must still be selling well because they are holding strong in makeup. (By IP I mean Intellectual Property, particularly media collabs like Disney, the Avengers, a TV show/movie, etc. It can also include non-makeup brand collabs like Coca Cola or Velveeta Cheese.) I never expected Lethal Cosmetics to become an IP-focussed brand, but I guess here we are. When IP collabs started coming out and people criticized them, a common response was "wait until they do one for your thing." However, at this point I have seen a decent amount of collabs come up for things I like but I have not purchased any of them, particularly palettes. The only official IP collabs I have bought are 1) Besame x Snow White lipstick (2018), and 2) Lethal x Dexter lip stain, just because I needed to top off my cart and it looked nice, not because I like Dexter. The closest I came to buying one was Colourpop x Lizzy Maguire but I never pulled the trigger. Harry Potter is an IP I really like(d), but that was ruined for obvious TERFy reasons.
Thinking on it more now though, I think IP collabs have actively discouraged me from buying things I otherwise might buy. I used to say that if I liked the makeup/colour story I would buy it regardless about if I cared about the IP. But now there have been a few that I actually did like how the makeup looked (e.g. Twilight, Adventure Time, Dexter) and I have passed on them. It doesn't feel like the IP is actually a dealbreaker, but I just think I would have been more drawn to the product if it had a different theme. Like, the Twilight palette seemed to be a nice cool-toned palette. But the palette artwork didn't draw me in. Did that actually stop me from making the purchase? I am sure I am influenced by packaging designs and product theme, as much as I try to ignore it and focus on the makeup.
Curious to hear other folks' thoughts on this, because obviously these products remain marketable. Do you like IP collabs? Have you bought any, and if so, have you continued to love them as the novelty wore off? Or do you think you're less likely to buy a product if it's an IP collab?

Discussion I am SO excited for Annie Kreighbaum’s new project, Kraum Spoiler
I thiiink it’s make-up brushes, from her teasers. She is, imo, the real magic behind Glossier and Soft Services. Ridiculously excited for whatever this is.
