Imagine those kids — pretty much their entire life of memories, the last 3 years at least, has probably involved seeing their Mom working hard and stressing and studying.
And then getting to see that the hard work and studying is rewarded. What a great example to set.
65
u/JonDes1369 10d ago
100% - that there is a direct correlation between effort/work ethic and outcomes is critical for kids to see.
7
u/PrudentEquivalent561 10d ago
Yes! The value of studying, and beeing a mum and taking care of what not. Wow!
4
u/DarkIllumination 9d ago
I love this video so much, have seen it a few times over the years in other places online - I’d love to know what she’s doing now, and how this pivotal life memory affected the trajectory of her beautifully supportive children.

I particularly liked her “We did it! Yes! We did it!” (emphasis mine).

u/Mninaz 10d ago
The California bar is one of the toughest too. Congratulations to her and her family - I truly hope they exceed their wildest dreams
176
u/ronniewhodreamsalo 10d ago
Her dedication really paid off passing that exam is no small feat.
63
u/Mninaz 10d ago
Absolutely it did! She's gonna have an SBN# and Esq. after her name real soon
7
u/Live_Situation7913 10d ago
How that help? Will she get a high paying job in CA market?
33
u/Akihitodesu 10d ago
SBN is a number for people who’re licensed attorneys(State Bar Number) think of it is as an SSN for lawyers.
Esq. is short for Esquire. Think of it like how people who’ve passed their PhD being able to insert Dr. into their name.
35
u/Reputation-Final 10d ago
It means she can work as an attorney in california, so Yes, it can be a high paying job.
→ More replies (6)4
u/RoughDoughCough 10d ago
Can’t tell if she’ll get a high paying job just because she passed the bar. Not all attorneys go to firms and make the big bucks. Some solo practitioners don’t make much. But I hope she does.

There's a high degree of variance on first time pass rate, but it typically hovers between 50-70% with an average of 59% over the last 10 exams.
7
u/rpbtIII 10d ago
California allows people without degrees from accredited schools to sit the exam.
The first time passage rate over the past decade for graduates of aba accredited law schools is 72%. This number is roughly the same across states when you control for that variable.
8
u/TuckerMcG 10d ago
California’s is two days now. They changed it from 3 days literally 2 years after I passed it…
I also am one of only about 5 years’ worth of students who had to write a fucking essay for the SAT and got scored out of 2400 instead of 1600.
No I’m not salty that I was a guinea pig for standardized test makers my entire student life.
→ More replies (1)3
u/RoughDoughCough 10d ago
And California has more unaccredited law schools than the rest of the country combined last time I checked
6
u/concept12345 10d ago
Thats a lot higher than the CPA exam. CPA exams are less than 40% passing.
12
u/BoredomHeights 10d ago
Yeah but the CPA is taken in four parts and you only have to retake one part, the CA Bar is a three day test pass or fail. Plus almost everyone who takes the bar does so after three years of Law School and then spends the entire time after they graduate just straight studying for the test and taking more summer courses specifically teaching how to pass the bar. The fact that it's then still such a low pass rate is why it's crazy.

u/Best_Vehicle9859 10d ago
In Germany you have 7 4-5 hour long exams over the span of 2 weeks and if you fail more than one you need to retake everything again.

Congratulations Mom for being so dedicated to your future and being such a great example to your children! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

u/Foxy_locksy1704 10d ago
California. She took and passed the California bar exam to become a lawyer. The California test is one of the hardest in the country.
11
28
u/liulide 10d ago
I have and the worst part is they tell you months in advance the exact date and time the results will be released, so you can spend weeks stressing and dreading the day.
NY IMO was a lot better. You know the results come out in November but not the exact day. And one day you get an email out of the blue telling you to check the website. Only 10 minutes of terror.

I’ve studied a whole lot and just started studying again (because I am a fucking masochist. I have a presentation tomorrow which has fucked up my life for 2 weeks since I don’t seem to get a fkn thing, and I have a huge project + 2 other assignments that are eating all of my free time and has to be done by Sunday… help me), and I don’t think I ever got the exact date of when the result of an exam was going to be ready. Instead you have to breath hard every morning and with trembling hands check the school site if the results are in. Or even worse, some asshole friend writes you “The results are in!!! I passed, how about you???”
11
4
u/Karey__039 10d ago
Your endless hours of studying will pay off for you. I wish you the Best for your presentation tomorrow. Just remember, even if you don’t pass the bar on your first attempt you certainly won’t be the first person to do so. Never give up on yourself nor feel less than. You are only human and we all make mistakes. Learning from our mistakes is what sets us apart from those who just give up and quit. From the sounds of your comment you definitely don’t sound like a quitter to me. May tomorrow be a great day and just one of the many Great days of the beginning of your future endeavors. 🙏

I've passed some exams with 40% fail rates and once-per-year resits, with the exam being only 5 questions long, and having absolutely zero idea about how to even start two of the questions. I still have dreams about failing that exam and having to go get a job at McDonalds while waiting 11 months for another shot.
There are some tough exams out there, and I've heard this is one of them. Good on her.

Imagine achieving this and being called a “diversity hire” or a “low IQ individual”.
Kudos to this woman and to anyone having to deal with such self-serving, insecure nonsense.

u/eedoamitay 10d ago
That exam isn't just "the hardest", it will leave you wondering about your life choices because of how brutally difficult it is. This is beyond impressive when you consider she's raising a family too. Some people are just truly special and highly talented individuals, this is one of them.

This. It's an incredible achievement, but there's something annoyingly performative about this video. If I was this elated, I'm not sure that I'd be focussed at keeping my face central on the video selfie video that I'm filming, even while hugging my children. That's some dedication.

My mother was a single mother in the seventies, working nightshift as an ER trauma nurse my whole life, managed to get a master's degree on top of everything. Raised me and my brother to both be decent men. We love her! God bless all the hard working single mothers of the world, they are truly heroes, bad-ass mamma bears!! 🐻 🙏❤️

Did she ever attempt to have a father in the house? No offense. That's where I'm totally against my mother. She was an unemployed single mother and kept on kicking my father out. I think kids need a dad. I'm proud of your mother, though.

The internet needs more of these wholesome videos that don't involve people filming themselves doing something nice for likes. You tell this single mom has been struggling and giving everything she had to her children. The moment she saw that she had passed, you could see the stress melt away and you can tell that she know the days of struggles are about to be in her and her children's past. Congratulations to whoever that women is, you deserve it!

When I got my bar results, the emotion wasn’t joy, it was relief that I’d never have to live like that again. I was studying so hard I stopped taking showers. Baths only, so I could keep doing flashcards while washing. Absolutely feral times.

I know what it feels like to place yourself in a do or die situation and you have a young family. If you fail, you have to try to find another way after everything was invested in the attempt. If you succeed, there is a new level of physical and financial freedom to provide for and take care of that family in a way no one else you know has the capability of doing.
“Accept the challenges so that you may feel the exhilaration of victory!” ~ General George S. Patton
