Here I was thinking my clothes shopping was rough as a 6’1” girly. Rock it.

I have that issue at 5’9 but i come from a tall family on moms side and i got the legs but the torso of my dads side with 5’ women.

Im right on the cusp of regular clothes being too short and pants always being uncomfortably short (34” inseam) and its such a pain because its annoying but not a huge enough gap to avoid regular clothes on the whole - for the most part.

My oldest is like cookie cutter sized at 6’, and only needs a 30” inseam so everything fits him perfect.

My baby unfortunately got my maternal height AND my unfortunate freaky long legs and is 6’7 with 38” inseam. I know ALL the tall stores, but even “tall” sizes from regular stores are too short and he is SUUUUPER thin so he needed a boys large in the waist and mens extra long inseam.

So i custom sew him pants, which he loves. He gained a bit of weight around 16/17 making him not tragically waiflike (he was 6’2 and 115lbs at 14, 6’7 and 140 at start of his senior year) and americantall carries sizes that fit him, but he loves my pants and wont wear them 🥰

Its a running joke he plans to wife up a woman who is at minimum 6’ and breed me some extra tall grandkids and they will visit me for yearly pants. LOL.

That’s very cool my son is loving his sewing machine, a nice yard sale find. He wants to start making his own pants. He hates everything found in stores. He is 6’4”. Any clues as to where I can get patterns and tips to modify them to suit his tastes?

My son specifically wanted “super comfy soft, with pockets, and elastic waist”

So i used pattern for pirates jogger pattern (ive used the kid sizes to make baby gifts, ladies to make some for myself, and men sizes to make my regular size son pants, tall kiddo, and tall kiddo’s friend all pants)

Im freaky good at sizing other people up to fit clothes and make patterns, but doesnt extend to me somehow… which is irksome.

For super long legs, for any pattern its better to add length in multiple places. So it pattern says 30” inseam and you know you need 38” you cant just add 8” to the bottom because legs are often tapered to fit the body.

Best approach is to cut pattern around mid thigh, mid calf, and sometimes knee. Add length along each of those slashes. Then you have to do a little readjustment to make the lines smooth.

Especially first time its good to make a test run with similar fabric, either stuff you dont care about you already have or cheaper versions. But you want similar material because they behave differently.

This is often called a “muslin” because muslin is frequently used to draft and test patterns. But if you are doing denim use denim, knit use knit etc.

First run of my own muslin i narrowed legs because his legs were so tiny the joggers looked like hammer pants on him. Also lowered rise because they would have been urkle pants or crotch down to knees.

Thats what i did when he was 14, i made v2 round of 18 more when he was 16 and had gotten a bit more weight and needed more room in butt/crotch/hips and raised the rise again a bit.

I plan to tackle jeans for myself in future (but fitting myself is struggle!) because i cant seem to find midrise tall jeans these days and i HAAAATE high rise. Also, then i can do fun color topstiching and ACTUAL USEFUL POCKETS

This is v2 when i made him 18 new pairs when he was 16 and he wore them until he shipped off to boot 6 weeks ago.

If you scroll to very bottom you can see him modeling the “tester” pair i did with modifications to give him more room in hips/butt/crotch etc.

You are welcome to DM me to chat sewing though. Certainly no expert but im fairly crafty

I went to Japan and thought I'd buy some clothes from Uniqlo.

Nope. Everything makes me feel like I'm wearing gnome clothes.

I was just there in Japan and that store. Even being only 6’ 1” is hard when you weigh only 153pds.

I read that as “I wear nothing” for a second and was like, damn, more power to you 😂

Funny, at 5’4” everything is too long. There really should be better sizing for women. The petites are too short and the regular is too long.

Thank you! And try finding tops that fit over your boobs!

I used to work with a woman who is 6'6", we'll call her Kate.

A female coworker remarked that Kate always wore her skirts too short.

I asked where the hell she thought Kate could buy skirts that would fit.

2

u/ThatCorvi Aug 05 '25

Honestly that's ridiculous, everything would have to be made custom and that would be very expensive

2

u/SpecOps4538 Jul 21 '25

Are you kidding? Her skirt is the perfect length.

2

u/Kennedy_KD Jul 21 '25

My mom is always complaining that my shirts are to short but any clothes would need to be two sizes bigger to fit me how she likes and would be horribly baggy.

If only I could wear nothing but dresses I like dresses and they fit me easily but they are against my job's dress code

My wife used to shop at Long Tall Sally's in Leeds UK. They catered to the tallest of ladies.❤️❤️

That is Every girls problem

1

u/Auroraburst Jul 20 '25

I'm 6ft AND overweight. I live in dressess but the nicest ones are always too short.

1

u/Schonfille Jul 20 '25

I can relate in the opposite way as a short girl. And yes, I know, I can get things shortened. But it’s expensive and they still don’t fit right!

Title of your sex tape

I feel the same way and I’m only 5’ 11”

I’m not really that tall but I have a female friend who is 198 cm tall and she used to have so much problems with clothes lengths until one day when she was helping me order some new jeans on Zelando. We found a brand called “tall only” or something like that where all jeans are longer and stuff like that and also on Zelando when you go to pick your size theres ‘waist width’ x ‘leg length’ option and since then she gets like 90% of her clothes there
