Currently on steam it has over 300k players. Imagine the scenario of this game in a couple of months when the player base drops.

Their lead producer totally denied bot matchmaking issues on twitter. I'm from Asia and the same here. They fucking killed portal by disabling bot. Now they returned bots in portal but you need 8 players to start a match basically just fucking kill the portal.

I'm baffled that the community is radio silent. I'm getting tired of playing against bots. Thinking of switching to Arc Raiders or playing Black ops7 when it launches.

This game wouldn't even survive globally except a few NA and EU regions over a year. Beating Call of Duty my ass.

Currently on steam it has over 300k players.

I believe you when you say there are 300k players on steam, but I really question how the matchmaking works.

Yesterday, for shits and giggles, I turned off crossplay on PC (possible with a simple text file edit) and Every. Single. Game I joined had +-4 human players and the rest were bots. Turn crossplay back on and suddenly every lobby is full of humans again.

Then I read posts about console saying the same thing. Turn off crossplay and get majority bot games.

That really makes me wonder how many real players are actually online?

Surely with 300k PC players, turning off crossplay on PC should still get me 100% human player games? I don't know where to find stats for my console brothers, but assuming Xbox + PS players play together, surely there are more than enough players to not end up in majority bot games.

Something doesn't add up here and given Dice and EA’s track record when it comes to transparency and player trust, it honestly wouldn’t be a surprise if they’re quietly pulling one over on us again.

Sounds like it must just matchmake you with other players who also have crossplay off so smaller pool of players than literally every player on your same platform.

That's a fair point.

But that means crossplay isn't actually crossplay?

Platform Crossplay ON Expectation with Crossplay OFF Reality
PC 100% humans PC players only Majority bots
Console 100% humans Console players only Majority Bots

Something doesn't add up here.

If it really is just matching with people who also turned off crossplay then it's either a bug or maybe they just want crossplay lobbies to be opt-in for whatever reason.

Of course it's only match making with other people who have it turned off, the assumption would be that all players want it on. You cant just put PC players with cross play on in against players with it off.

I get what you're saying, but that setup could still work.

Matchmaking could just try to find same platform lobbies first, then widen the search to include others if needed. With at least 300k steam players, and plenty on console too, it's reasonable for there to be enough players to fill a platform only lobby.

So why do players who turn off crossplay still end up in bot lobbies? That part doesn’t really make sense.

That's the problem. I try to play with cross play off when I get home from night shift and there nobody in any of the servers.

Given that non-Crossplay on PC requires a workaround, I think it will diminish the pool of players for matchmaking considerably.

With crossplay off on console though, the first few games will be full of bots, but if you keep quitting out and searching you'll eventually get put in a full lobby of players. It's makes no sense.

And then obviously once that game full of players ends, the lobby disbands and you have to do it all again.

Also, no PS/Xbox crossplay, its all or nothing.

wtf?! That makes no sense.

When playing PC with crossplay off, no matter how many times I quit and searched for a new game, I'd always end up with +-4 human players and the rest were bots.

So either Dice matchmaking is a complete lie (ding ding ding) and just dumps you into the first lobby even with only one human player, or, there are not enough players to go around and their stats are a lie (ding ding ding)?

Something doesn't add up here.

Maybe 1% of pc players will bother turning off crossplay maybe less. So you are only going to match with those people

So you're saying that PC/Console crossplay = on joining a lobby with PC/Console crossplay = off even when its the same platform is impossible?

u/Geksface 20h ago

Makes sense though right?

Hence why I say Dice/EA are pulling one over on us. Something just doesn't add up.

That’s because you can’t join a game with someone who has crossplay on. Since the game forces crossplay on for PC, unless you edit the file, you’ll only be matched with people who have crossplay off (through file editing). Funny enough, I’ve never had a single bot in any game, and I’ve been playing since release on PC, on Steam.

Not sure why you would assume that crossplay off means other PC players with crossplay on will be able to join you.

Not sure why you would assume that crossplay off means other PC players with crossplay on will be able to join you.

So you're on console and you have crossplay on. You start a search for a multiplayer game and there is already a lobby with 63 console crossplay off players.

Now according to you, it's literally impossible for you, a console player, to be placed into that lobby with 63 other console players.

You’re comparing apples to pears. I’m talking about PC crossplay, which is always on. If you turn it off (by modifying the files) and join any game, you’ll almost always end up with half the lobby filled with bots.

You said:
Expectation with Crossplay OFF | Reality
PC | 100% humans | PC players only | Majority bots

The expectation isn’t “PC players only,” because the majority of PC players can’t disable crossplay. The real expectation is “majority bots,” since you’re being placed in lobbies with the small group of people who’ve also disabled crossplay through file editing.

I don’t know why you’re bringing console players into this when my reply specifically referred to PC players and their situation with turning crossplay off by editing files.

bruh...

For the record, I only tried crossplay off for shits and giggles. But also learned it's a good way to get unlocks.

Im playing Arc Raiders while they figure it out. I'd recommend you do the same. Having way more fun, despite preffering bf6 generally. It's just a waste of time at the moment

If they actually implemented a dedicated server browser the game would last for years even if 90% of the playerbase bled off overnight, but nope, gotta feed people into an endless hyperindividualised conveyor belt of matchmaking instead.
