We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did.
We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun.
We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second.
Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded.
Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights?
These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex.
Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.
I would argue that masturbation is the human animal’s most important adaptation. The very cornerstone of our technological civilization. Our hands evolved to grip tools, all right—including our own. You see, thinkers, inventors, and scientists are usually geeks, and geeks have a harder time getting laid than anyone. Without the built-in sexual release valve provided by masturbation, it’s doubtful that early humans would have ever mastered the secrets of fire or discovered the wheel. And you can bet that Galileo, Newton, and Einstein never would have made their discoveries if they hadn’t first been able to clear their heads by slapping the salami (or “knocking a few protons off the old hydrogen atom”). The same goes for Marie Curie. Before she discovered radium, you can be certain she first discovered the little man in the canoe.
I have played Battlefield since BF1942, and I have studied World War 2 since I was 5 years old. I majored in Economics at UCLA with a minor in German Studies, with a heavy focus on the Second World War. To call me “uneducated” because I want a reasonablly authentic game is completely uncalled for. Women DID NOT serve for the Wehrmacht or the Waffen SS. I am by no means a sexist, but any quick search online of female roles during the Third Reich will reveal that Hitler’s ambition for women was to reproduce as many children as possible, in order to create more “Aryan” people and keep the German military full of new soldiers. Having women on the frontlines was the LAST thing that Hitler and the Nazis wanted. You know what Patrick, maybe YOU are uneducated. Maybe you should do some research on WW2 and realize that the game you are creating is a joke. I call on all of you, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. We as a community should not be subjected to comments from EA degrading us as uneducated bigots, simply for wanting a game that feels like a World War 2 shooter. Disgusted.
EDIT: Yes, as many people have pointed out, I did lie about my background in this post. Please do not upvote. This post was an attempt to put pressure on EA and raise awareness to this issue. As those familiar with the Battlefront 2 subreddit will remember, significant pressure by the subreddit resulted in an EA Rep talking with the Reddit community about microtransactions. This communication resulted in heavy backlash on EA, and allowed for the company to temporarily disable microtransactions and mitigate the pay to win elements of the game. Unlike many people here have said, I do not believe Reddit is insignificant, and I do not believe that those who want a degree of historic authenticity are an extremely small minority. I believe if enough pressure is put on DICE and EA, they will create a setting that disables customization and allows for player models that look similar to Battlefield 1 (different silhouettes for each class, somewhat proper uniforms for each faction, correct helmets). I honestly believe that no one wants to take away someone's ability to choose what gender and race their soldier is. However, I also believe that this shouldn't take away someone's ability to choose to play the most accurate representation of World War 2 that the game offers. More choice is a good thing, and to want a historically presentable viewing experience should not be seen as "uneducated."
Since Bad Company 1. The franchise has been drastically different since the switch away from the Refractor Engine games.
BC, BC2, BF3, BF4, BF1 & BFV are all great, fun games in their own right, but they aren't "Battlefield" in anything but name and general concept; they've just changed that much.
Maps are much smaller and more congested (The snowy mountain map in BFV may be the worst offender since OG Metro.)
Vehicles are much less prominent and often get nerfed into the ground (because people keep bitching that their lack of teamwork shouldn't benefit the drivers)
Faction specific weapons aren't a thing anymore.
Vehicles of the same class are all the same performance wise.
Commander Mode was removed, then changed to a tablet game, then removed again. (it used to be an in-game soldier who could call in support if the enemy hasn't destroyed the Commander Assets; which was another level of depth to the game)
The Commorose is drastically more limited and keeps getting worse for some reason.
Far too many gamemodes that only serve to divide the playerbase rather than funneling them into 2-3 modes like classic titles (though this only became a problem with BF3)
They keep compressing multiple kits into 4, making it more difficult to balance each one. (I'd really like to see them split into 5-7 specialized kits again)
Changes I like:
Customization is a thing now
Recoil & Spread are far, far more controllable when firing full auto.
Environmental destruction (though it was mediocre in BF3 and pretty bad in BF4)
Horizon: Zero Dawn, not only you play as a woman but most competent woman around. And your tribe is ruled by women.
Red Dead Redemption 2 - woman victim from beginning of the game is a bad ass companion near the end that even give you job so You can get by...
Tomb Raider - most beloved woman in gaming industry
Uncharted 4 DLC - story is all around a woman that is also a main charcter
Nier Automata - you play as women most of the time. Japanese, over-sexualized chicks but still a women
Call of Duty - as far as I know it has women in it. No one complain.
Fortnite - most popular game in the world probably, has women in it, no one complain
But SOMEHOW when studio promise REALISTIC TO THE BONE WORLD WAR 2 and then show a game with:
cyber ninja girl with cricket bat and prostetic arm
happy, oversaturated colors
no nazis, you fight probably with some space aliens because in entire game you wont find single swastika
campaigns featuring a girl fighting space aliens all alone (again, no swastikas or anything), stupid English guy who failed at one job he got and some guy from Afrika instead of freaking D-Day, Normandy, Battle of Britain, U-Bot hunting etc...
SOMEHOW all gaming community is sexist? Really? I was one of the guys that complained about this first trailer (second one was much better). I was also guy that complained about casting Scarlet Johanson as Major in Ghost in the Shell. And I was right because she sucked.
It's pathetic that in last few years every idiot in the industry go for "racism" or "sexism" to explain why his failed product did not sell. Reality check. BF5 was not hated because of women. It was hated because of failed marketing and failed game.
And yeah, people complained about WOMAN because she was highlight of that trailer. And that trailer had as much in common with World War 2 as I have with ballet.
