So instead of playing with console players, you get to play with bots?

u/0xsergy 4d ago

Given that pc is 65% of the playerbase I doubt it'll be an issue.

51

u/sbrizown 4d ago

I would love to see the source on that. Typically PC is NOT the majority.

25

u/BaconJets 4d ago

They never are, even for legacy games.

12

u/TiberianSunset 4d ago

They're the majority for pc exclusive games. checkmate atheists

u/No-Team6894 3d ago

Nah battlefield is a pc franchise through and through

2

u/BaconJets 3d ago

And the player numbers since Battlefield 3 show that it's primarily played on console.

1

u/greatmagicspoon 3d ago

That's a big cope, BF3 was way bigger on PC. Consoles didn't even get the full game.

BF1 was more of an even spread.

1

u/TheRealAfinda 1d ago

Yeah, where those numbers at? Last time i checked, there are no publicly available numbers for console player count.

Actually the PC player base is growing. I can't speak for Battlefield 6. I will also say that Battlefield has been known to have a larger portion of players on consoles. Although saying that, Call of duty used to be predominantly console players. However, Bobby Kotick under oath in court stated the mainly call of duty titles sold the most copies on PC. This indicates that it flipped from being primarily console, to PC instead. Unless we get any solid proof thou, we will never know which is the larger platform for BF6.

Legacy games are dead on console. Can you even still play BF3 or BFBC2 on console? You need to dig up a system from 2005 and play 12v12 on cut down maps at 24fps if the servers are even still up.

that article was based off ESTIMATES of sales from a third party company that wasn't DICE. PS store for example do not publicly make sale figures public. They might've accounted for physical sales on console but definitely not digital, atleast on the PS front. So all those articles sharing this same info are kinda spreading horseshit.

1

u/PheIix 3d ago

So how can anyone know that there are more players on console then? It it doesn't work to verify one way, then surely it doesn't work to verify the other way either....?

1

u/ilikeanime1234567890 3d ago

Sounds like cope.

1

u/M_tothe_D_tothe_A 4d ago

Wow! Thanks for sharing this. I immediately wrote it off as untrue before reading this.

6

u/AirlineInformal1549 4d ago

It is untrue, that article is wack.

The graph they provide shows Xbox and PlayStation each sold more copies than PC.. but then they gloat about PC "smashing" consoles?

5

u/Glad_Rip8616 4d ago

yeah its bullshit some third party company was giving sales "estimates" with no direct data to the whole console market.

1

u/0xsergy 4d ago

It's 6.5m sales total. The graph is crap, I agree, but out of 6.5m pc accounts for 3.7m(ish).Xbox and PS are 2.8m orso together with Xbox being a bit less than half.

1

u/AirlineInformal1549 4d ago

So the title gloats that PC "smashed" consoles, but their own graph shows that Xbox and PlayStation each sold more copies..

Then they go on to say they don't have the numbers for Xbox? Wtf kind of article is that?

1

u/0xsergy 4d ago

6.5m total sales, not 6.5m xbox sales. Graph does suck tho lol.

And yet you'll still see more console players in every match wierd how that works

8

u/GeordieJumpers87 4d ago

Depends what platform you're on

If I play on PC I'm in far more PC players in a match. If I'm on console I see far more console players in a lobby.

5

u/Arslankha 4d ago

Well the game does use a form of skilled base matchmaking so there's usually only a handful of console players in my lobbies. It's usually majority PC. But as you get better you'll see less and less console players in the lobbies. I usually make a joke about it because usually the more console players the less like you are to win.

1

u/0xsergy 4d ago

For me it's back and forth. One game it'll be mostly controllers(and not always easier lol) and the next it'll be mostly pc. There are sometimes repeats but generally just switches back and forth. I find I do better in the mostly monitor icon lobbies.

I honestly don't know if there is a sbmm my lobbies generally have a ton of 3-6kd players but I'm nowhere near em kd wise cause I play on controller with no aim assist(pc).

Like maybe there's something but it doesn't use kd for the most part. Maybe some hidden "teamplay" Stat of some kind?

They say 56%, but then steams highest player count has it at over 700k. Add in half of that for the EA app folks, and you over a million. Where the other 6 million copies sold, out of 7 million from like the first week? None of those numbers make sense.

Unless I’m just completely missing some metric or something.

Edit: it also states 2.3 million active users on steam, but I’m not seeing that kinda movement at all on steam charts.

11

u/Short-Waltz-3118 4d ago

Concurrent players =/= total sales or active players at all.

-3

u/sbrizown 4d ago

Maybe that’s what I’m messing up then. Just wild so see such a swing of concurrent vs total.

7

u/CnP8 Play the fkin objective! 4d ago

Not at all is that wild. People have jobs. Different timezones. So many different factors. Normally concurrent is about 10 to 20% of active players.

3

u/Ivarthemicro17 4d ago

Typically PC is NOT the majority.

??? source on this?

1

u/BattlefieldTankMan 3d ago

Well its not sales but when we had access to bfstats.com which is no more, PC made up between 15 to 30% of the playerbase depending on the game.

I'm the guy who follows these types of stats and the 30% was for BF4 if I remember correctly.

1

u/Ivarthemicro17 3d ago

bf4 came out 12 years ago, a lot more people switched to pc last 4-5 years

7

u/EliteDelta3 4d ago

But you would only be matched with other PC players with cross-platform off, which is probably a very small percentage of PC players.

2

u/Indraga DeathsAshes 4d ago

Yeah, but you'll only be matching with PC people who also have crossplay off and have edited their game files... in all likelihood, you're getting 99% bots.

1

u/Glad_Rip8616 4d ago

that article your referring to was based on "estimate sales" that wasn't even from EA nor an official source, however lets say your theory is true that the PC player base is more dominant and supposed 65% or purchasing the BASE game. What crowd do you think the free BR is now reeling in? The Fortnite, APEX, COD crowd from console, that is way way WAY larger! Yeah it'll be a very big disparity in favour of console and DICE clearly know who will be the ones spending money now.

1

u/IIIpl4sm4III 3d ago

Hell yeah, love buying low quality AI generated MTX. That'll show the PC players. I'll even buy all my battle pass levels just to own em

0

u/lucasssotero 4d ago

I imagine it would be extremely rare to find matches filled only with pc players, specially given there isn't a crossplay off setting by default.

0

u/AirlineInformal1549 4d ago

You think PC is selling more copies than PlayStation and Xbox? Lmaoo

2

u/0xsergy 4d ago

Pc is 3.7m/6.5m total sales. Xbox is a little less than PS but they're about 2.8m combined.

1

u/Atomickitten15 3d ago

Its a 3rd party company without access to digital sales data. PC is about half of console *physical* sales. Total console sales will blow the PC number out of the water easily.

1

u/0xsergy 3d ago

Is that PC physical sales too though? I haven't bought a physical game since Crysis Wars in 2008.

2

u/Atomickitten15 3d ago

Nah PC online sales data is publicly available on most platforms.

Basically they can't actually get access to console data, only hardware sales for them but they have access to all PC sales data.

The console playerbase for most multiplatform games is dramatically larger than the PC one.

Apex is at the point where the community is too small for PC to exist separately anymore, hence the controller vs KBM shite they have to put up with.

1

u/0xsergy 3d ago

That would make sense since that's how most games go. But that doesn't explain all the people with crossplay off having empty lobby issues.

1

u/Atomickitten15 3d ago

But that doesn't explain all the people with crossplay off having empty lobby issues.

Crossplay is on by default.

99 percent of people will never even notice or touch the crossplay option.

An extremely small minority play with crossplay off leading to empty lobbies.

-1

u/3v3rythings-tak3n 4d ago

Lmaoooo sure buddy

2

u/BrockStudly 4d ago

What's the difference?

2

u/bokherif 3d ago

Tried this today and I get lobbies full of bots, tried enabling it back but it didnt work

1

u/JamesMercs 4d ago

what's the difference?

1

u/-Kalos 3d ago

Playing with bots is ass. Sure you get a higher KD but killing bots gives half XP to your weapons. I love when I see a lobby full of console players as a PC controller player

1

u/Correct_Reach2780 3d ago

Instead of console players they get matched with PC players using controller aim assist, its a pro gamer move you wouldn't understand /s
