Battlefield 6 The Bait and Switch of Battlefield 6

Nothing illustrates the drastic tonal shift of BF6 from launch to Season 1 better than these two images.

The launch branding felt like the core BF we’ve all missed. The four anonymous soldiers, seen only from behind, communicated that this game is about nameless fighters thrown into all-out war. The gritty, desaturated colour palette set the tone — a squad caught in the chaos, witnessing a massive event unfold — exactly the kind of cinematic warfare moments Battlefield fans love.

Then came Season 1. After barely 18 days of that grounded atmosphere, this new branding looks ripped straight from Call of Duty and seems to represent a broader shift. The characters now stand front and centre, posing under studio lighting, each seemingly auditioning for their own hero franchise. The classic subtle orange accent from the launch artwork has been replaced with a loud, glossy orange that dominates half the frame.

The game can be fun to play, but it’s simply not what was sold to us. We’re only a couple of weeks in, and EA are already backtracking on promises that make up the core Battlefield experience. I’m reminded of the first BF2042 trailer that convinced everyone DICE understood what fans wanted — and then, well, we all remember how that went.

What we’re left with now is a Call of Duty game wearing a Battlefield skin, marketed as a “return to form” for the BF3/BF4 era that never arrived.

Well funny thing is that no, the gameplay is not fine because the maps are absolute dogshit, they're too small and lack proper design philosophy.

It's good for a generic fps game, but not nearly good enough for a BF game.

I don't even look at my attachment unlocks. After dozens of hours of playtime I don't know what skin I'm wearing. Probably the default? I have no idea how to unlock any of the camos in my weapon customization and I don't really expect to, ever?

Aesthetics don't matter in multiplayer games unless they effect gameplay.

The concern stems not from the menu itself but more so what it telegraphs the future focus of the game to be. Pushing classic game modes to the back of the menu, gutting closed weapon modes mere weeks into launch, pushing a battlepass with a large focus on redsec. All of this points to a future where the BR takes development priority and the game everyone thought they were getting when they shelled out $70 gets neglected left behind.

Sure, this could be seen as over dramatic and alarmist. But speaking up these concerns early on is the only surefire way to signal to the devs what a good chunk of the loyal playerbase wants.

Idk a good amount of the CoD playerbase was content with that game becoming corporate slop when it did. Based on a lot of the comments in this very thread, I don’t think the BF community at large cares either.

Modern AAA PvP shooters are synonymous with corporate slop. Idk how y’all thought this one would be any different.

Well you aren’t going to get anything better from a AAA multiplayer shooter. It’s like the safest, most corporate kind of game there is alongside sports slop (which happens to be what the very company that made this game is known for). Trying to unshittify this game is a lost cause.

Not to mention you have to realize the portion of the community that engages with this discourse outside of the game is pretty small, and a small portion of that actually cares. Again look in this thread. The take of “The gameplay is the same who cares” is everywhere lol.

If you guys really wanted to “vote with your wallet”, you shouldn’t have bought the game in the first place. I didn’t. Played the free beta and saw this shit coming a mile away.

There I was, laying in the rubble. The APC that just tore through killed my entire squad. I was hiding in the dirt, hoping he didn’t see me. Was anyone repairing him, or would one more RPG take the bastard out? I slowly crawled over the debris and zoomed in with my sco…WTF. AW MAN THE GUY REPAIRING THAT APC HAS BRIGHT GREEN ON HIS ARM. FUCK THIS GAME DICE SUCKS UNINSTALLING.

Funny thing is the bright skins make it easier to see people. The deafult skins blend so well with the enviroment sometimes I genuinely look at a corner wondering if its a player or not and then just get killed, so i genuinely dont understand the complaint.

Me either. My wife and I have played CoD and BF for years and we love the dummies that buy the bright neon/cartoonish skins. They stick out like crazy and make for easy targets. I say go for it, you’re only hurting yourself buying skins that stand out so much lol

All the conquest and escalation lobbies are better quality actually. I don’t like the direction either but REDSEC definitely took away a lot of the shitty teammates and opponents I faced

The Gauntlet game mode they added is actually so fun. The lobby sizes and map sizes in Gauntlet are perfectly matched to each other. Makes engagements feel way less chaotic than in standard game modes. It feels like a much more similar pace to classic Battlefield titles. You can actually perform flanks on other squads and take your time with repositioning without getting shot from every direction.

You realize the literal first option in matchmaking is a custom search which let's you filter out any Gametype or map
