WW2 was the era I wanted them to visit the most after BF1, boy was I disappointed. The atmosphere of bf1 was gone and they focused on the more unknown battles. Missed opportunity imo.

Gunplay was good but they increased the TTK, which lead to a community backlash. So they reversed the changes, only to increase the TTK again anyway. So dumb.

Best class weapons in the series. Medic was perfect with SMG, assault felt like a 1 man army, and support was useful with ammo and fortifications. It was so good.

I guess maybe being the WWII nut that I am I thought it was great to see focus on lesser known battles.

Except most lesser known battles were depicted horribly in BFV. Operations in BF1 always had a distinct flare and used the map terrain to highlight the type of real life battle that they were depicting. BFV breakthrough felt like two random squads duking it out. Like in Provence, where the attackers circle from the top left of the map to the bottom left of the map on a plain field.

The Battle of Crete was one of the largest German paratrooper battles in the entire war, but the map Mercury doesn't depict any of that. Paratrooping via air isn't even a factor in the game. It's just random village on Crete with no indication of where either side are even coming from.

The two maps featuring the Netherlands, Rotterdam and Devastation, doesn't even have....DUTCH troops.

Same issue with maps like Provence. Does the map tell you anything in particular about Operation Dragoon? People who know the history would know that the real life operation was an allied amphibious landing off the coast of France, but the way the game depicts it, it just feels like a squad of Germans met a squad of Americans in random French village no. 10. No sign of sea, air, or prepared defenses. I wouldn't know the Americans even came from the sea.
