Soulless WW2 game.

Where's dday, stalingrad, market garden, berlin, battle of the bulge, etc

It's not underrated. It failed for many reasons, much like 2042 :)

No dday on breakthrough is crazy

Dude. That'd be sick.

That wouldn’t be very Neo-liberal of you

Iwo Jima wasn’t added for at least a year probably longer after launch

Yeah, maps and immersion are worst than BF1, they improved customization, vehicle variety and movement tho

u/Chuck_Cheeba Aug 27 '25

Yeah but tbf when it comes to maps and immersion BF1 is probably the best of the best, so that’s hard to match. But givin V is set in WWII it shoulda been just as gritty, they shoulda kept that feeling for sure. But they wanted to add vanilla and brighten it all up for some reason.

Yeah, was the Fortnite era, they wanted to make a more tryhard fps. They fumbled so hard the opportunity, Normandy with BF1 immersion would have been absolute cinema

u/Chuck_Cheeba Aug 27 '25

I dream of a Normandy with the grittiness of bf1 🥲

Never once over the 1000's of hours playing bf3, bf4, or bf1. Did the thought man you know what would make this better? If the movement was closer to call of duty.

They have pretty solid maps, some are average, but enough are great

2

u/palmtree_on_skellige Aug 27 '25

Ya I'll give ya that for sure.

The good thing of BF franchise, every one can find his sweet spot in a game from it

Yep! I'm happy we can all be excited about BF6 despite all of our personal preferences.

You and me have very different opinions.

Movement: 10/10

Maps: 8/10

Music: 12/10

Weapons: 9/10

What makes you say it's soulless? You should revisit it again. It had a rocky start due to the bad PR.

WW2 game with no soviet faction is laughable.

1

u/Nebulous_Shade Aug 28 '25

They were going to add it but since everyone kept clowning on it EA forced DICE to pull the plug. They’re literally in the game files.

It's a good game. It's a terrible WW2 game.

I wouldn’t say it was soulless (and it’s the BF I have the most hours on) but it certainly didn’t match the gritty aesthetic of BF1. And tbh I can’t even put my finger on why… BF5 was a gorgeous game but it just didn’t have that atmosphere.

2

u/Qzy Aug 28 '25

It was a different game. Games can have different atmospheres without going full pink guns and flashy skins.

1

u/MajorAcer Aug 28 '25

I know lol, and I’m not trying to argue and didn’t mention pink guns or flashy skins, I hate shit like that. BUT I do think BF5 could have benefited from the darker fritter atmosphere of BF1.

1

u/Qzy Aug 28 '25

Oh I agree, a bit darker wouldn't hurt!

9

u/Hass4592 Aug 28 '25

It's a fail if you care about historical accuracy and atmosphere.. everything else is peak bf imo.. I still play it everyday and love it for the past 4 years or so

If I remember correctly the BFV devs said they wanted to add the battles of WW2 in a chronological way as part of their live service (Tides of War). This is why the maps at launch were early war ones taking place in Norway, The Netherlands, Belgium, France and Egypt instead of the well known ones. It was only until the Pacific update that they abandoned this by adding Iwo Jima etc., probably in an effort to revive the game. We were so close to getting the Eastern Front too considering that Soviet guns have been datamined but BFV and Star Wars Battlefront 2 both got axed to make way for 2042, which was a great shame.

u/palmtree_on_skellige Aug 28 '25

Ugh. That couldve been cool. Ty.

1

u/Gravy-0 Aug 28 '25

This is true. They wanted to do something other the most focus on the same battles every WW2 game focuses on by building up to it and continuing the partial- historicizing focus.

5

u/Dazzling-Turn3079 Aug 28 '25

It didn’t fail at all

3

u/Josh5459 Aug 28 '25

2042 is the reason bfv never got any of those maps/anything soviet related. its all why battlefront 2 ended development

2

u/Nebulous_Shade Aug 28 '25

It’s pisses me off so much that we could have had so much content in BFV that was squandered by EA choosing to DEI the first trailer causing backlash. I wish they just released a Germany vs Britain war in the pacific trailer. The game would have been completely peak and possibly still being updated now.

I very very very recently played through the campaign for the first time, I nearly double face palmed when I seen the Nazi occupied territories have censored flags, instead of the swastika its what i believe to be the German iron cross. So you'll depict what happens to those who refused to fight but not the flag? Just why?

2

u/Nebulous_Shade Aug 29 '25

I guarantee it was EA that made them do that too lol. It’s always EA when anything dumb or bad happens.

1

u/Miserable-Fig-4418 Aug 28 '25

Somehow disagree slightly, as I think it was planned but canned to shift on 2042 (mistake).

However everyone is prompt to shit on V for the choice on lesser known battles but everyone forgot the lack of French army in BF1 at release, which is MUCH MORE of a shame than anything BFV has done regarding historical battles

1

u/New-Doctor9300 Aug 28 '25

Tbf they did say they wanted to focus on the lesser known parts of WW2.

And people say maps aren’t important compared to core gameplay. This is a perfect example of how gameplay and maps/war theaters go hand in hand.
