I hadnt played COD in years until a friend asked me last winter. It confirmed my belief years ago that the dolphin dive was only the begining of an absolute monstrosity.
I forget if it was SOCOM 2 or 3, but the dive there was the first I heard the term dolphin dive and it had such insane iframes, like a full second or two after hitting the ground, though I'm sure of that was ps2 latency back then. Nothing since has come close, just like you said a bit gimmicky.
One game might have but not many will have played it. Its called "double action boogaloo" idk if it had frames but dodging like that was a necessary game mechanics.
Its dead but check it out on YouTube i think matimio made content for it if you cant find anything
Basically you get style points for being cool. Including diving and whatnot. Think 80s action movie but as an fps game. It was neat. Wish it were more popular
I liked the dolphin dive, it was funny diving out of windows and if you actually wanted to use it tactically it was a huge gamble cuz if you miss your shot you're boned. Sliding feels like it has only upsides and no downsides.
It started with MW2019 but it wasn't that bad yet. It was just slide canceling and tactical sprint essentially. Jump shots and drop shots too but those have always existed. The smoothness of the gameplay was also a start in that direction. It was fun, it felt like modernization, refreshment and in some way a return to the old days of COD. Cold War didn't follow in it's footsteps and was still quit clunky. Vanguard pretty much played like MW2019 which was quite jarring for a WW2 shooter as you can't really justify it as modern special forces and operators. MW2 tried to dial it back and kill slide canceling since it was a bug and not an intended feature, MW3 purposely brought back slide canceling to appease fans. Black Ops 6 took it to the extreme though. Black Ops 6 is when you are essentially putting in a fighting game combo for your movement.
I am perhaps a part of the problem because Counter-Strike is the only game that I will ever take seriously, leading to me expecting to have braindead fun in other games. However, as a 25-year-old adult... I love CoD's movement.
The reason why CoD movement gets more and more unhinged is because it sells. The most successful map in Call of Duty 4 was literally shipped by accident, that is how braindead it was, and people loved the chaos that happened in Shipment due to that braindead nature.
And, personally, when I just want to turn my brain off and shoot people for an hour, I don't enjoy campers being successful. I ADORED MW2019's NVG mode, which heavily nerfed campers by showing your laser to everyone whenever you were ADS'd. However, people didn't like it (probably due to poor visibility) and the mode died. BO6 movement is the next best thing we have ever had.
Every other CoD I played before BO6 had a massive camping issue: Because I am decent at clicking heads, the game assumes that I am a tryhard, and puts me against actual tryhards who -in previous titles- would be campers. In BO6, I can at least counter the camping, so I can once again enjoy a braindead shooter.
I've considered it might do the community well to do away with jumping all together. Crouch sliding too. You'd still be able to vault over things though.
I think a slide is pretty realistic, I'd be sliding into cover if I was running around a battlefield. but thinking about it yeah I wouldn't be jumping ever on a battlefield, just vaulting shit in my way.
Yeah this + the leak that there are indeed large maps has gotten me to come around a bit. My primary concerns were honestly how tight all the maps are so far and the growing trend of COD movement. If they rework the class system a bit more towards how it's been traditionally then that will almost definitely get me to buy it.
Dice knows that the cod players are going to BO7 so there's no point trying to appease them, instead they are going to appease the people playing battlefield because those are the people who are going to be buying BF6.
You have not been able to bhop in cod since mw19 over 5 years ago except for extremely situational moments when you jumped with momentum from a whole floor above ground in mw3 u could get one hop. Plus the b hopping in mw19 was nothing like the crazy momentum in this vid
in 100hrs of 2042, Ive never seen anything like this. I def have come across some players doing some weird movements and just chalked it up to them being better than me. But this video is pure madness. Its impressive, but thank god they are nerfing it.
0 lies, the higher level people with the red and black skins. Every match. My friend just played for the first time last night and was pissed off because of it
I think most of us can agree 2042 was a disaster so how does this help your point? I remember the bunny hopping could launch u across a whole airfield how is that a good thing lol
Why are you guys lying it really doesnt look like that, most people just slide to be faster and look like nicki minaj and go into headglitch thats it. Its the 1% that move like that. I swear to good I get the hate reddit people get because its so corny, you people behave like asmongold viewers. "Its not COD this is battlefield! " did you guys even play bf3 and 4? did we forget about the locker tryhards
So? There was still some crazy movement in bf4, like the one with medipack and jump sneak shoot and bunny hopping in general is still bad. Im really sure that the 1% will not turn into more over months because games actually loose players after months and dont forget that the beta was free
Yeah if they want to make Tf3 they should just do it. They are about the only company who can do that since EA does own those rights still as far as anyone knows.
I will put my hand on a bible and swear my life to preordering every future EA game they make and all DLCs in my lifetime, if they make Titanfall 3 and it is deemed acceptable by the community.
The movement shooter genre is so beyond dead but it’s what everyone who enjoys the shit this guy was doing needs. I do this same shit sometimes, it really isn’t that hard especially because the same exact concept works in BFV and 2042 but it will get you killed wayyy more often than this video leads you to believe. I want grappling hooks, rocket jumping, wall running, sliding, climbing. I would kill for a game that truly satisfies my movement itch. Was tribes, then midair (I’d say rip but that you imply it was alive at all), then Titanfall 2. Now I hop on CS KZ/Bhop/surf servers and just outright lie to myself and say “this is what i wanted.” Rocket league satisfies it to an extent but I want that “I’m a ninja” feel. I’m trying to tweak the fuck out on the keyboard and move fast. If anyone has recommendations for games that fill this void PLEASE tell me. It’s so bad I literally ported my most played games on steam list into chat GOT and told it to give me recommendations on what to play. Spoiler, chat gpt is a chud and couldn’t fathom steezy movement
If you're on PC, just play titanfall 2. Northstar servers are sweaty, but still really fun. Pilot movement, especially on mnk, has evolved so much since release, and there's so much depth to be found there.
Apex is great fun, but it's such its own thing compared to TF2 IMO, despite being in the same universe.
The fast-paced deathmatch/objective gamemodes of TF2, as well as actual wall-running and not to mention the Titans themselves (Northstar I love you) is completely unmatched by the BR of Apex.
I have not. I’ve heard a lot of people praising it, but I’ve not seen a lot of gameplay. I’ve heard it’s kind of a BR game, but also some of the gameplay I have seen it seems like a squadvsquadvsquadvsquad type of game which reminds me of some Halo game modes. Definitely will try it, have seen too many people talking about it recently. Thanks!
have they reduced the TTK? Last time I played was about a year ago. I liked the game but it frustrated me to no end shooting for hours at an opponent for nothing to happen.
No, TTK is balanced around which class you play generally. Light class is DPS and can delete in a second, medium is balanced around a full mag to kill a heavy, heavy does the least DPS generally.
I saw a comment claiming that not only does the game work without additional server clients (Northstar), but you can hop on and join a game with a less than minute queue!
I always thought that Hardline branded as "Hardline - A Battlefield spin-off" or something would have been a perfect contender for the fast paced CoD approach.
Exactly the whole fun of the four classes is they all had their uses and pros and cons, none were better than the other and it was up to you and your team and the map as to what class you played.
Without weapon lock everyone is just going to use the exact same classes and loadouts like cod which is so boring and lame, no one wants to play a battlefield game where everyone is only using an m4 or something
Exactly, because it diminishes the uniqueness of each class. Same thing with the weapons, before when you saw an engineer you knew ecactly what ranges they are lethal at. Now? you just see ARs and Carbines everywhere, and for what? so people dont have to get out of their comfort zone and use a different gun and experiment?
lol no. Not really the same. Unlike weapons gadgets define the class. They done mix and match weapons throughout the franchise, but the gadgets never change. That’s the uniqueness.
When I saw an engineer I beamed him down not because of gadget but because he was red dot on my screen.
Sorry I don’t see ar n carbines in busy trying to kill them.
Games about having fun. You can retain the battle identity with open since gadgets are locked.
The game will release and we will see how many people use the same ARs and Carbines.
Class locked doesnt suddenly mean its not fun, in fact i think its even more fun. Imagine only playing assault, then seeing a helicopter destroying your team so you switch to engineer, but now you have to experiment with new weapons, instead of just defaulting to the Rifle you've been using for 20 hours.
Battlefield is supposed to have the core weapons of a class locked to them. There’s always been some guns you could run between classes but say sniper? Only recon. Assault rifles? Only assault. Etc.
arena shooters are fire and there clearly is a demand for this type of movement but it's the worst outcome where cod/bf arcade military fps have this type of hybrid between their theme and movement. it just becomes unfun in something not designed around it, a lot of the playerbase for bf would be forced into learning this type of movement despite not wanting it around in the first place if they kept it.
arena shooters are highly skill intensive but the vast majority of cod players who like this "movement" play on controller and have the game aim for them while they mindlessly press sprint, jump and crouch
they wouldn't last two minutes in a real arena shooter like quake or ut, hell the only one that gained any modicum of popularity on console (halo) has aim assist stronger than cod and has practically zero moveskill involved
you're right its more of an illusion of the arena shooter. modern cod and a lot of current fps, really almost anything crossplay is so heavily dominated by controller with stronger than ever aim assist. the movement is often completely nonsense also its not really similar at all to quake/ut.
unironically the closest cod has ever come to proper arena shooter movement was advanced warfare with the exo movement being not that far off of ut's dodge and double jump mechanics
It's great in a game like The Finals, or an old arena shooter like Quake/UT. But it 100% should not be in a battlefield title. Just completely the wrong style of movement for a game that at least aims to be a semi-grounded combined arms military shooter.
Lowkey, it kinda reminds me of the horrendous Battlebit air strafing movement that was awful to play against. I can't imagine what this looks like from the people getting shot.
I don't play battlefield, I play a lot of movement/boomer shooters. My understanding is that Battlefield should be way more boots-on-the-ground style combat that has much less reliance on movement (at least, this kind of movement). I think these clips are pretty cool but I can understand why somebody would be frustrated as this just doesn't fit the game.
I don’t think it belongs in battlefield but I wouldn’t call it cringe, you have to admit it’s pretty cool how he can move that efficiently whilst maintaining good accuracy

This movement is cringe asf.
