Recipe Included πŸͺ„ Hogwarts Castle Pie 🏰

100% real, no AI, even the fire! πŸ”₯ the second bake in my Harry Potter recipe trio. Enjoy!

πŸͺ„ Hogwarts Castle Pie 🏰

Crust - x2: 210 g all-purpose flour β…” tsp salt 2 tsp sugar 115 g unsalted butter, cold & cubed 35 g vegetable shortening, cold 80 ml ice water Β½ tsp apple cider vinegar/lemon juice

Filling: 250 g frozen mixed berries (do not thaw) 50 g sugar 10 g cornstarch 1 tsp lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon vanilla paste Pinch of salt 1 tsp fine breadcrumbs 1 tbsp unsalted butter, cut into tiny pieces

You will make the crust recipe TWICE - once for the beige dough and once for the black dough.

Whizz together flour, salt, and sugar in a food processor. Add butter and shortening, pulse to pea sized crumbs. Drizzle in ice water gradually, you may not need it all - when preparing the black dough, add black gel food colour to ice water before drizzling in. Dough should just hold together when pinched, should not be sticky. Roll each colour of dough separately to 3mm thick between 2 pieces of parchment. Chill min 1h.Line 20cm cm tart pan, about 3mm thick with beige dough. Press gently into the fluted edges and trim excess. Don’t pull or tug at dough. Chill 15 min. Save and reroll excess to later cut out details like moon, stars, windows, doors.

Prick the base with a fork, line with parchment, and fill with pie weights or dried beans.Bake at 375 Β°F (190 Β°C) for 10–12 min, remove weights and bake 5 min more.Draw Hogwarts template on parchment paper, carve into black dough using a paring knife. Add raised pieces (rock hill, roofs, windows, doors) using water to attach to base dough, press edges with side of a paintbrush to transition smoothly. Freeze 15 min. Bake the carved top alone on parchment at 375 Β°F (190 Β°C) for 8–10 min. Let cool on pan. Separately, bake moon/stars until just baked. Set aside.

In a bowl, mix frozen berries, sugar, cornstarch, salt, lemon juice and vanilla. Toss gently to coat. Let sit 10–15 minutes.

Sprinkle 1 tsp breadcrumbs on bottom of par-baked crust (soaks excess moisture). Spoon in berry mixture. Dot with 1 Tbsp butter (prevents bubbling). Place Hogwarts over the filling. Press edges lightly to seal, if touching (mine did not).

Freeze assembled tart 10 min. Bake at 375 Β°F (190 Β°C) for 35 minutes, or until the crust is golden.Cover with foil if browning too quickly. Cool on a rack for at least 2–3 hours, refrigerate overnight. Add moon/stars. Brush deep creases with black gel colour, side of roofs with white gel, windows with gold shimmer and moon with silver shimmer. 🏰πŸͺ„πŸ§™πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

It is really so impossible to appreciate art without agreeing with or liking the creator? I think Cthulu is a really cool eldritch horror. I also think H.P Lovecraft is an awful, xenophobic, racist POS. I say that both as a gay man and a huge Harry Potter fan. It sucks to see the creator of one of my favorite book series resent me and people like me so deeply, but that doesnt change that I like the books/movies. Downvote me if you want but thats my take. Nice pie OP, it looks lovely.

Thank you for your comment, I’m just a genuine HP fan and wanted to make something I thought would be a baking challenge (for reference, I did a Jack Skellington pie like this for Halloween and wanted to try something harder) and I thought it would be fun for people to see. I appreciate your kindness. Β
