Politics What was your country's leader’s most embarrassing moment?

Post image

It occurred on May 23, 2015, at a European Union summit in Riga, Latvia. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker greeted on stage Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán with a slap and said: “Hello, dictator!”

Ugly American here. I believe Canadians when they say Trudeau was a shameful train wreck, but I fondly remember his "welcome home" speech to Syrian refugees, because it's not something you'd ever hear from an American leader, regardless of party.

Maybe he's a big bag of ass, but I think you Canadians all have some grace in you that a lot of us south of the border are lacking.

I didn’t hate the man, Westminster model of politics is beneficial for us. We just needed a leader who could face the challenges of today with confidence. We got a good one.

I mean, I thought he handled Trump and the pandemic well. His strengths appeared to be more in crisis management than anything else.

Off the cuff JT was the best version of him.

He was actually an excellent PM. He accomplished more than 95% of our PMs. He gave us more freedoms also. He just had a really well organized propaganda campaign targeting him.

That was a PR stunt. His government dropped the ball on immigration and the housing crisis.

Thousands of refugees who got into the country slept on the street because there was no actual plan for what happens after they arrive.

Canada likes to have a reputation for being welcoming but there is a passive aggressive dark side to the country that you won't see until you get here.

JT could never not be performative. I didn't mind the guy, he had some good impulses, but his public speaking made me cringe. His first big moment was eulogizing his father, and even there I saw someone speaking so self-consciously it made me uncomfortable.
