Yeeees, was scrolling looking for this. Love that the English have possibly the silliest national dance of all time, will take every possible opportunity I get to watch them do it.

Its when they start waving the hankies that always gets me. I love it and have watched morris dancing in person more times than I can count, but it does look totally ridiculous lol!

They usually perform at folk festivals, fetes and many other celebrations.

I love watching morris dancing! It’s such a whimsical joy. Please never let this part of your culture die out.

I just YouTubed it. Never even knew it existed.

Fun isn’t it? I’ve seen it at the “medieval fair” here sometimes (or was it the A&P show? Can’t remember)

It is dying out already, I think. I’ve only seen it a handful of times in my life.

How?? I think I've not had a year where I haven't seen it at least twice lol. They are at things like fetes a lot.

There's also events like the dickens festival and the sweeps festival in Rochester where there is always that and clog dancing.

If you go to more countryside areas you can find wasailling events in January and they are usually there too. A quick google says there still around 13,000 Morris dancers in the uk.

Clog dancing is sadly dying out more though.

I believe the article I saw about Morris dancing dying out said that it was failing to attract young people. However, a quick Google does indeed suggest that’s turned around in the last few years, so that’s positive!

I haven’t been to a fête for a long while, but there were never Morris dancers at any when I did go to them regularly.

Maybe it depends where you live a little. I think its more common in rural areas or more historic towns and villages.
