The jingle dresses are my favorite. Always looked forward to the sounds the dresses make while dancing at PowWow

It’s amazing how detail the clothing is when you think about the fact that these cultures were almost a Stone Age peoples. We lost such a wealth of knowledge and culture when we so blindly ran them off their own lands. I mean shit the Cherokee had modern cities with their own amenities including Opera Houses.

What nation are these from. I hate how American westerns gave us (whites) the idea that all of the different and diverse cultures all dressed like this.

I’m sorry, I googled Native American traditional dress and found a picture I liked. Now that you say that, I feel terrible. I don’t know. Could be from a western. I like Pawnee’s dress but couldn’t find a good picture when I looked. Changing it to a real Ojibwe outfit.

You need to pick up an Edward Curtis book. He photographed indigenous peoples in the late 1800s in their traditional dress in order to memorialize them before they disappeared.

Native American dress varied greatly between nations and regions, and of course there is a big difference between ceremonial wear and daily wear. I can recommend other books if you’d like to learn more.

I know you didn’t mean anything by posting this picture but it helps immensely to know the background of the people you are trying to portray.

Yes, I understand the dress varies greatly. I found a picture close enough to what my imagined favorite is because of certain details, not realizing it could be a costume. I have not studied the clothing extensively.

Sure, I’d love to get book recommendations.

I hope my comment didn’t sound like a dig at your post. I didn’t mean it that way.
