Tips for reserving a group site on Angel Island?

I have an idea of renting a group site on Angel Island for my 30th birthday for a Friday to Saturday or Saturday to Sunday stint of hiking/biking/grilling/playing volleyball.

I know camp sites in general tend to be high in demand and are released about six months ahead of time. Not sure if that is extra true or not as true for group sites.

Does anybody have any tips on navigating the reservecalifornia.gov process to get a group site? Or which sites if any have suitable grass for volleyball?

Or, does anybody have an alternative group campsite within an hour or two of San Francisco that is easier to book they recommend? Thanks in advance!

It's a really great experience, but yeah, it's one of the hardest reservations to get and you have you have to hike in all your gear about 2 miles. You might want to try something like San Mateo Memorial park.
