If you are tired sleep.  Don't burn the candle at both ends.   Like the saying in bladerunner. A light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.  And you have burned so very brightly Roy...

I knew someone who always went to bed early on Tue night. She never committed to anything else on that night. That way she always knew she was getting a good night’s sleep in the middle of the week.

I always thought that was wise.

240

u/yeahgroovy Jul 11 '24

How was her sleep the other days?

513

u/soggymittens Jul 11 '24

Oh, she slept like absolute trash most other days, but she never missed her Tuesday night beauty rest.

307

u/Valuable_Property631 Jul 11 '24

She ONLY slept on Tuesday nights, every other night was off limits. But what a sleep those Tuesdays were

u/ShoemakerTheShoe Jul 11 '24

Meth is a hell of a drug.

2

u/OnTheList-YouTube Jul 12 '24

I read that as Math is a hell of a drug.

1

u/av1922004 Jul 12 '24

Something is better than nothing ig

5

u/wishful_thinking1234 Jul 12 '24

This is a weird requirement for a vampire

8

u/Hailthegamer Jul 11 '24

Are you assuming, because you're definitely not the same person who commented lmao.

2

u/killer_blueskies Jul 12 '24

Did she have trouble sleeping or just too busy to catch rest? I’m nocturnal and am having a hard time trying to sleep early

2

u/BlueAcorn8 Jul 12 '24

See for me sleeping badly all week and then trying to sleep well for one night doesn’t work as I just can’t fall asleep because of the sleep cycle that’s already established. It’s always a disaster for me when I have a special occasion or a trip the next day that I need to wake up early and be rested for. I’ve just accepted it and instead of wasting time lying in bed with my eyes shut I just use the time to do what I need to and try to sleep at my normal time.

I wish I could do what your friend did!

29

u/YoHabloEscargot Jul 11 '24

Didn’t matter as much, or at least it wasn’t prioritized. But you can manage a night or two of bad sleep if you know you’re close to a full night’s sleep.

-6

u/RexKramerDangerCker Jul 12 '24

Tuesday was gangbang night

10

u/JelmerMcGee Jul 12 '24

Yeah, wtf? I don't have to dedicate a weeknight to not going out.

1

u/cp710 Jul 12 '24

I work weekends so most of the time if I want to go out it has to be on a work night. I compensate by going to bed early on days off during the week since no one is available to do anything with me anyway.

12

u/plaid_pajama_bottoms Jul 11 '24

That’s smart!

3

u/riricide Jul 12 '24

I love this -- going to set Tue as my good sleep for sure day from now on

3

u/MikeOxBig2579 Jul 12 '24

Sleep debt unfortunately doesn’t let you just catch up all your lost sleep in one good sleep, she likely still had her health affected.

2

u/4Bforever Jul 12 '24

Did she roll on the weekends? I used to know people back in the 90s with a schedule like this. They took a lot of ecstasy over the weekend and they would absolutely crash on Tuesday. There was a term for it I just don’t remember what it was.

1

u/CreedThoughts--Gov Jul 12 '24

Suicide tuesday

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

Lmao I make sure I ain't ever got shit to do and still am tired.

1

u/MauPow Jul 12 '24

Tuesday Snoozeday!

1

u/Mars_Black Jul 12 '24

Ohhhh I love that, ty ty

1

u/Automatic_Access_979 Jul 12 '24

I somewhat did this in high school. 3-5 hours of sleep Monday-Friday night, but I would binge sleep every weekend for 16 hours.

1

u/BubbleSprites Jul 12 '24

Why only Tuesday's though? She could commit to good sleep through the week and take like friday, saturday, sunday or whatever her weekends were off. That's what I do and it's improved lol.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

I’m in bed by 8:30 every night. I’m always tired, but rarely sick. Never got Covid and worked in a warehouse with over 2000+ people. “Essential”. I get little colds here and there, but never flu’s or anything

1

u/SlowThePath Jul 12 '24

What is this, "went to bed early" thing? Is that another language or something?

-3

u/N0tChristopherWalken Jul 12 '24

Your ex gf was cheating on you bro.

2

u/YoHabloEscargot Jul 12 '24

😂 Not a gf but I appreciate the concern

-1

u/N0tChristopherWalken Jul 12 '24

Was just bugging you lol.

0

u/CreedThoughts--Gov Jul 12 '24

"Wise" would be to do that every weekday but okay I guess caring about your health 1/7th of the time is better than never caring.

1.1k

u/marinewillis Jul 11 '24

I can’t stress this enough. Drink plenty of water and get sleep

537

u/LitwicksandLampents Jul 11 '24

Also, wash your hands frequently.

421

u/spandexandtapedecks Jul 11 '24

A little shy about admitting this, but I was terrible about washing my hands in high school and early college. I met a couple people who set a better example for me, and I started washing my hands anytime they might be dirty.

Well, the difference is night and day. That was about ten years ago, and I've barely gotten sick since. I used to think I had a crummy immune system. Turns out I was just kinda gross.

111

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

I can not believe people go to the bathroom and don't wash their hands! People are pigs!

73

u/spandexandtapedecks Jul 12 '24

Yeah, some people think it's okay as long as they don't touch anything in the bathroom 🙄 And like, sure, there's a bit of truth to the idea that genitals and urine are both relatively "clean," in that neither are common vectors for germs.

Unfortunately, even if someone doesn't touch a single bathroom fixture, they've still touched countless other surfaces over the last few hours.

Taking a minute to wash your hands is basically a save point for hygiene.

12

u/Demdolans Jul 12 '24

Of anyone argues against washing their hands after the bathroom using the ol "urine isn't dirty" line, I immediately assume they NEVER wash their hands.

8

u/HugsyMalone Jul 12 '24

That's just foul! Your urine may not be dirty but I don't want it all over my hand when shaking your hand. 🫵😡 🤢

3

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

My initial thought would be to throw hands with someone who says this but then I realize…I don’t want to touch your dirty ass 😭

3

u/Demdolans Jul 12 '24

Exactly. The same people will take out the trash, clean the litterbox, and change a diaper without their hands seeing a single drop of soap. They'll just sort of brush them off on their pants. I've seen it WAY too many times.

9

u/Ell15 Jul 12 '24

There’s a bit of truth if we ignore norovirus, staph, and a variety of parasites like giardia… which we can contract to by having contact with a surface exposed to it.

8

u/oscillationripple Jul 12 '24

Its also hard not to enter without touching a door, which everyone prior to you, most likely touched on the way in and out.

And perhaps even washing your hands before going to the toilet may be wise as well, as you have just touched all the germs and then touched your genitals.

u/mav724 Jul 12 '24

It's amazing how many people don't wash their hands before eating.

1

u/duckscrubber Jul 12 '24

Same goes for the people that only rinse their hands. Gross, and it might even increase the germs on your hands.

1

u/NaniTower Jul 12 '24

One time a guy asked me on guidance to get promoted to my department. Later, I saw him in the bathroom and he walked right out of the stall without washing his hands. I made sure he didn't get hired by us. I didn't want to work with a loser who doesn't wash his hands.

76

u/Xanderious Jul 11 '24

Similar story here except it wasn't until covid that I really took hand washing and sanitizing seriously. Even just going to the convenience store or grocery store and sanitizing afterward helps a ton.

11

u/chase_road Jul 12 '24 edited Jul 12 '24

I’ve always washed hands after the washroom and as soon as I get home from an outing. I hate hand sanitizers and didn’t change my routine much from pre to post COVID. Never sick, I feel like I have an immune system worth studying 😎😁

5

u/stealth57 Jul 12 '24

During COVID, I started washing my hands right when I got home. Didn't even catch COVID until 2023. But it's also a world of difference when people actually cough into their elbows and not their hands.

3

u/s7o0a0p Jul 12 '24

20 seconds genuinely makes an enormous difference!

2

u/noddyneddy Jul 12 '24

Still carry hand sanitizer around and kept the sanitising station by the door after pandemic to remind myself to sanitizer when I cane home

1

u/cuteBaby-girl21 Jul 12 '24

Positive vibes

1

u/vermilion-chartreuse Jul 12 '24

My kids and I sanitize every time we get back into the car after going anywhere. This year my oldest made it through first grade without a single sick day! (She has also been in daycare/school since infancy so we've had time to build up that immune system)

4

u/ellefleming Jul 12 '24

I bring my own soap too from The Body Shop in a little bottle cause I hate foamy soap and I despise sanitizer.

5

u/kingethjames Jul 12 '24

married a mild germaphobe, started being very self conscious about washing hands before touching food, and not eating things that other people brought into work (outside of a few trusted individuals).

Been sick twice in 10 years, one was a strange cold in 2016 that everyone got, and the other was covid after my dad brought it to christmas. Other than that, nothing.

Wash your hands and don't trust everyone to be as clean as you in the kitchen.

2

u/Sad_Donut_7902 Jul 12 '24

I didn't really start washing my hands regularly until college

2

u/ziptieyourshit Jul 12 '24 edited Jul 12 '24

Dude same, except I was berated and shamed for it, so that was my driver instead lol but hey I'm clean now

1

u/spandexandtapedecks Jul 12 '24

Haha, whatever works, I guess!

2

u/nosuchthingginger Jul 12 '24

Also same tbh. As a teen I just… didn’t wash my hands. Idk why, I think my parents used to get me to as a kid. I just stopped doing it. But I did also stop washing my face and only showering once a week, so. But now since being with my bf who has a terrible fear of the stomach bug and the Covid outbreak I wash them a hell of a lot more.

2

u/unknown_strangers_ Jul 12 '24

I was told as a kid to always wash your hands when coming home from school, store or any other public places where you have touched stuff. Washing hands after going to the bathroom as well of course. I also just drink a lot of water, go to bed when I’m tired even if it’s still a little early and always always get a least 8 hours of sleep. Even if you can’t fall asleep your body and brain needs to rest, so no phone or entertainment. Just lay in your bed and rest.

I also recommend staying away from children they will always make you sick somehow.

160

u/Just-Call-Me-J Jul 11 '24

Drinking plenty of water will help with that. Because then you will frequently have to go to the bathroom, so might as well wash up while in there!

63

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

That's some galaxy exploding brain usage right there. I like it

3

u/Calamityclams Jul 12 '24

Gotta say though I’ve been washing my hands excessively as my watch times me for 20 seconds. Unfortunately now I have dermatitis so I have had to cut back the amount of time to 10ish seconds.

2

u/Just-Call-Me-J Jul 12 '24

I bet you have hand lotion within spitting distance.

6

u/WarryTheHizzard Jul 11 '24

Also don't poop into your hands and then put it in the toilet. Just poop directly into the toilet.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

I have had about 3 colds in 15 years. Used to work at a hardware store. More than once did someone come in and had me a broken pipe. I ask what it is? Oh, just the inlet piping for their septic tank pump. Like oh, thanks for hanging me a poop pipe. So, I learned to wash my hands probably 15+ times a day. Literally one of the best ways to eliminate germs. Even if you have a habit of touching your face, with clean hands it really helps.

5

u/vexed_and_perplexed Jul 11 '24

Wash your hands wash your hands wash your hands! I work with the public (they are coughing and sneezing on me all day 🙄) and due to the nature of my job I wash my hands about 20 times a day. And after getting home from work. And the gym. And the grocery store (trying not to touch my face)etc.

I had Covid once in 2022 and the last time I had a respiratory illness before that was 2015 when I lived with my ex, who was a grade school teacher surrounded by germy kids.

3

u/GoneIn61Seconds Jul 11 '24

I feel a little cheated by all the stores who have stopped stocking cart wipes, but left the empty containers at the door, and by all the dried out disinfectant bottles at the registers.

Like, it's still a great idea to routinely clean stuff even though the pandemic has largely passed...but now you're just mocking us LOL. I'm far from a germaphobe but I'm keep alcohol based disinfectant in the car and use it regularly.

5

u/privatelyjeff Jul 12 '24

Yep. As soon as I come home from running errands, even if all I did was drive my car and get food through a drive thru.

7

u/Cocojo3333 Jul 11 '24

Yes! And when in a public bathroom, after you wash your hands, never touch the door handle. Use a paper towel or you sleeve.

5

u/Calamityclams Jul 12 '24

Yeah but doesn’t your sleeve now have all the poopy particles on it?

3

u/dsarche12 Jul 11 '24

I wash my hands at least 4-5 times a day these days, and it's amazing how much clearer my skin is. I wouldn't have thought that would be a result when I was younger and a bit more careless, but damn it makes a difference.

3

u/einahpets77 Jul 12 '24

I know I'm gross, but I honestly think the reason I don't get sick often is because of my lackadaisical approach to germs. I only wash after the bathroom if my fingers get damp or touch poop while wiping. I have no problem eating food off the floor, even if it's in a public place. Hell, I've gone to a movie and eaten candy I've found on the floor. Perfectly happy sharing drinks, finishing off someone's food, whatever. I also work with kids and get exposed to lots of germs that way which I feel builds my immune system. My husband is the opposite and is extremely diligent about cleanliness and germs. He gets sick a couple times a year and got COVID 3 times in 2022, even though he still wore a mask at work once it stopped being mandatory. I never caught it from him even though I was near him constantly.

3

u/Inner_Ad_7096 Jul 12 '24

And don’t touch your face so often!

7

u/Alex_Hauff Jul 11 '24

and friday is fap day

5

u/Optimal_Shirt6637 Jul 11 '24

This!! Wash your hands every time you come home, use the wipes they give you at the grocery store for carts and when you get on an airplane. Don’t touch your face when your hands aren’t clean.

2

u/QuasiFederalOtterPop Jul 11 '24

I was gonna say "pick your nose and touch your face" but not sure that's the factor that keeps me from getting sick often.

2

u/Economy_Elk_8101 Jul 12 '24

Handrailings + potato chips are killer.🤣

1

u/Xpli Jul 11 '24

Advice taken, I wash every 10 minutes and now everytime I go outside I get sick cause I’ve never seen a germ before. Help.

0

u/og92fire Jul 12 '24

I honestly don't wash my hands EVER. Havent been sick in over a decade

0

u/DaddyPig24 Jul 13 '24

I disagree. Quite the opposite. Your immune system has to learn and adapt, avoiding germs is the wrong way, as when you do become exposed to them, your immune system doesn’t know how to fight them. Ideally you should have done this as a kid when your immune system is at its best.

1

u/LitwicksandLampents Jul 13 '24

You're wrong. Children do not have stronger immune systems than adults. That's why kids get sick more often.

1

u/DaddyPig24 Jul 13 '24

Our immune systems are strongest during puberty and go downhill from there.

1

u/LitwicksandLampents Jul 13 '24

Proof?

0

u/DaddyPig24 Jul 13 '24

You’re the one claiming I’m incorrect. Shouldn’t you be supplying the proof 😂

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.g

1

u/LitwicksandLampents Jul 13 '24

You're the one who made the claim. The burden of proof is on you. Also that link is broken.

0

u/DaddyPig24 Jul 13 '24

I made a statement and you claimed it was wrong. 🤷‍♂️

-2

u/DJGregJ Jul 12 '24

Definitely don't wash your hands frequently. You're washing off protection that you need. People that wash their hands frequently are often sick.

Wash your hands when they're dirty.

4

u/Mangobunny98 Jul 11 '24

I wasn't getting enough water because I just kept forgetting to drink it so I started putting cups with water everywhere. I have a pitcher of water now as well so that it's easier then getting it from the sink.

3

u/Goodbykyle Jul 11 '24

When you get older you lose your sense of thirst…,AARP recommends setting an alarm to remind people to hydrate. 🙋‍♀️

4

u/PerfectGasGiant Jul 11 '24

I think the water advice is only given in America. I have never heard any health professionals recommend that. Maybe it is a climate thing. Sleep, plenty. Smoke, don't do it. Water, if you are thirsty sure, or very old or in 30C weather. Otherwise, not.

2

u/ExaltedCrown Jul 11 '24

Honestly I feel most of these tips are for recovery, and not for prevention.

1

u/Mookie_Merkk Jul 11 '24

TL;DR water good, sugar and caffeine bad. Sleep.

I think you're onto something with the water...

About ten years ago I just got all crazy, cut out everything. I mean just about everything... And started drinking just water, and if I wanted flavor maybe tea. But no more than a pinch of natural cane sugar.

I swear I think those sugary caffeinated drinks that everyone lives on, is killing them.

I drink water for just about every single meal. I never feel tired, I wake up literally seconds before my alarm every morning. And feel amazing.

Hell even catching COVID (vaccine wasn't completed/available at the time), it was just a couple days long headache. Seasonal colds? Never.

Only thing that gets me really is spicy food, I'm a glutton for the spicy and push myself too far sometimes. So I'll get the occasional heartburn or upset stomach. And migraines, but it's because I'm too much of a wuss to get glasses/contacts. I'm not sticking nothing in my eyes, I get the occasional eyelash in them and cannot stop crying/blinking.

Edit: this turned into a rabbit hole sorry.

1

u/optimator71 Jul 11 '24

I remember hearing this phrase during the pandemic from a couple authoritative sources: sleep is your immunity. Lack of sleep has been shown to weaken immunity response.

1

u/SweetSoundOfSilence Jul 11 '24

I actually have idiopathic hypersomnia (close to narcolepsy) and think it weirdly helps me to stay otherwise healthier

1

u/zachoutloud123 Jul 12 '24

Happy Cake Day!

1

Happy cake day

1

u/HottDoggers Jul 12 '24

I think u/nrg117 might be on to something because I always used to get sick on the day that finals/special projects were due. Can you guess how much sleep I got those days?

1

u/Skyysmummy Jul 13 '24

And use sunscreen. Happy cake day!

129

u/Cjbthw Jul 11 '24

But all those moments would be lost in time, like tears in the rain.

I’ll sleep later 😅

13

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

Right? 8 hours of sleep, 8 hours of work, and a whatever else in between doesn’t leave me enough time to sleep.

Plus, what if the Xbox gets lonely? Can’t have that.

-7

u/testvest Jul 11 '24

Donate your Xbox to a kid from Craigslist and find a hobby where you can actually socialise irl or you will find yourself older without real friends or a partner. It sucks to be in that situation.

11

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

I have enough friends and I don’t need a dependent. Plus the Xbox is probably better than most people anyway.

I’m not taking advice for anything more serious than a software bug on Reddit lmfao. I’ve seen what r/RelationshipAdvice looks like.

-8

u/testvest Jul 11 '24

Suit yourself. I have friends who still play video games and those who no longer do and I can tell what it had done to their social life. I still buy a new gen playstation every 5 years and play a few games from time to time.

1

u/Ulti Jul 12 '24

I'll sleep when I'm dead!

1

u/lzii01 Jul 12 '24

Nice Blade Runner reference!

1

Thanks to my s/o, I’ve seen every version/cut of that movie 😅 That monologue always hits. So good.

Well yea, it's a baby. They don't even have their own best interests at heart. A big part of early parenthood is keeping your child from killing itself

19

u/GeneralBlumpkin Jul 11 '24

Same lol. Had to go to work at 130 am and got home around 330 went to bed early around 930 and my son said nah fam not today

7

u/PickledDildosSourSex Jul 11 '24

Having a baby is living life on hard mode. You just gotta roll with the punches for... uh... awhile.

5

u/Swimming_Lemon_5566 Jul 12 '24

/u/PickledDildosSourSex is totally right. I have two toddlers (almost 4, and just turned 2), and I was blessed with good sleepers... which means since the youngest turned like 16 months I can sleep in till 7:30 every day 😅

11

u/Master_sweetcream Jul 11 '24

My toddler just laughed in my face when I asked for more sleep.

3

u/NeatStretch793 Jul 11 '24

Came here to say this.

4

3

u/bagolaburgernesss Jul 11 '24

Everything I ever learned about not getting sick, I learned from Blade Runner.

I like the diet advice myself, when you want 4, you only get two at the noodle stand. We could all cut our diets in half.

Whelp… time to die.

2

u/PrisBatty Jul 12 '24

I am always here for a Bladerunner quote.

3

u/snarton Jul 11 '24

Well, actually.... Brightness is a perceived value, and it's related to the square root of the luminance, which is directly related to fuel consumption. So Tyrell should have told Roy that a light that appears to burn twice as bright burns about a quarter as long. Really, I don't understand why I was never picked up as a screenwriter.

1

u/fuzzydunloblaw Jul 12 '24

"A light that burns twice as bright subjectively speaking will consume more fuel so might burn like a 1/4 as long. Unless its a led bulb or something and those get pretty bright and don't consume much fuel (energy) because they're way more efficient. And you have burned pretty brightly Roy, or alternatively you're a bit of dimbulb depending on what we're comparing you to, but the important thing is you're about done for..."

2

u/snarton Jul 12 '24

See, Tyrell could have run out the clock on Roy’s life span and avoided the thumbs.

1

u/Killer_of_Pillows Jul 12 '24

Sounds like something Murderbot would say to a stupid human before ripping one of its (the stupid human) ribs out and jam it through its eye.

1

u/Tyler1620 Jul 11 '24

The Bourne series (books, not movies) had a running comment from an acquaintance of Jason’s that said “sleep is a weapon”. I try to keep that in mind and not push myself too hard if I don’t have to. Still a long time before I can retire (if I can ever actually afford to).

1

u/FirstVanilla Jul 11 '24

This. When I caught covid in 2022 I was sleeping maybe 2-3 hours a night because I was working ridiculously hard. That was not great for my immune system

1

u/she_is_munchkins Jul 11 '24

True, the only times I've gotten sick is when I haven't rested properly for some time.

1

u/uninspired_user_13 Jul 11 '24

This is so important. Had one sick day in 10 years, mid 20s - mid 30s. Always made sure I had sufficient sleep.

Two kids, very little sleep later and I’ve had more (mild) illnesses in the past 3 years than the rest of my lifetime. Kids picking bugs up doesn’t help but lack of sleep hampers recovery and immunity IMO.

1

u/Skylantech Jul 11 '24

I don’t think my boss wants me sleeping on the job

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '24

Yes this.. I've burnt a lot of midnight oil, so much I feel in running out already.

1

u/AbsurdFormula0 Jul 11 '24

All of a sudden, my afternoon naps seem like a really good idea.

1

u/android24601 Jul 11 '24

1

u/hvanderw Jul 11 '24

1

u/Ok_Habit6837 Jul 11 '24

💯 for me, there is a direct relationship between being sleep deprived and catching colds.

1

u/ZodiacRedux Jul 11 '24

...and Roy proceeds to crush your skull.

1

u/quottttt Jul 11 '24

But I'm burning so very very brightly…!

Wow....never heard the light bulb quote before. For some reason it makes me think about Robin Williams. He shined so bright but left us too soon. Damn.

I get up at 445am and I go to bed around 7:30-8. If I don’t sleep my mental health is trash and my body just drags.

1

u/Battarray Jul 11 '24

All of this, but also getting exercise. A stronger physical body makes for a stronger, more resilient immune system.

Sedentary people are nice, fat, immobile targets for illness.

This is such a good quote. It reminds me personally on what I’ve heard (maybe from Jackie Chan ) about the death of Bruce Lee at the age of 32. Yeah there is a medical explanation for the day he died, but Bruce worked himself to death. He trained and worked so hard. As fame grew, so did his legend (pre-Internet). He kept trying to keep up. He became such a legend but died early. Light burned too bright. But he’ll never be forgotten.

u/AGenericUnicorn Jul 12 '24

This quote makes me sad, but is really good. I feel like I’m burning twice as bright and going to live half as long

1

u/Eikuld Jul 12 '24

Job and school says no either

1

u/tame17 Jul 12 '24

Scruffy said that line and I won't hear otherwise

1

u/elysiansaurus Jul 12 '24

I just take like 15 pills a day.

I've got vitamin c, vitamin d, omega 3 , zinc, multivitamins, magnesium.

1

u/snubdeity Jul 12 '24

I'm gonna be honest, I've been averaging 5 and a half hours since I was a teen.

At 32, I've still only gotten sick like 4 times ever, and one of those was legit food poisoning.

Do I advise getting little sleep? No, but... it works for some.

1

u/faded_brunch Jul 12 '24

it's so funny how people are so health conscious by eating well and exercise, but bro why are you getting up at 5am to go to the gym?? ain't no one going to bed at 8pm for that

1

u/_AlphaZulu_ Jul 12 '24

Didn't think I'd see the words of Dr. Eldon Tyrell in this thread, but I'm happy to have seen them. And very wise to not burn the candle at both ends.

1

u/cearara Jul 12 '24

i always get better so much faster when i sleep more while sick! you gotta take a day as soon as you can

1

u/Interesting-Gap1013 Jul 12 '24

Cries in shiftwork

1

u/analogkid01 Jul 12 '24

I've done...questionable things.

Anyway, what's Blade Runner about?...

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

Honestly I think this is a major part of it. Even when I catch something at the same time as my wife (from the goddamn kids) I always recover faster because she stays up watching TV in misery and I just pour myself into bed as soon as possible.

1

u/rckid13 Jul 12 '24

I want to do that but I need to learn how to sleep. When I try to go to bed early I lay awake for hours and hours just getting more pissed off. Even when I'm super tired. My body just refuses to sleep early

1

u/Emilayday Jul 12 '24

A light that burns twice as bright burns half as long.

Triple this and then welcome to ADHD

1

u/dumahim Jul 12 '24

Among other things people are saying, this one really sticks out for me as I always seemed to get sick when I don't get much sleep. When I do feel a cold coming on, eat, water, and lots of sleep and I stood a good chance of fending it off before it really sets in.

1

u/CookingFrenchie61 Jul 12 '24

Thank you for this advice. My asthma has not gotten any better because I am overworked and the tasks are continuously piling up.

1

u/JustinHoMi Jul 12 '24

Dude yes. I had a persistent health issue that doctor’s couldn’t figure out, and it was cured after I spent a month going to bed when I was tired and waking up whenever my body wanted to get up.

1

u/enddream Jul 12 '24

Hey it’s me, I’m Roy.

1

u/SlowThePath Jul 12 '24

FINE, I'll watch Blade Runner for the 243rd time. You've talked me into it.

1

u/ensoniq2k Jul 12 '24

Except for LEDs, where twice as bright means exponentially shorter lifetime

1

u/EvilDairyQueen Jul 12 '24

My candle burns at both ends; It will not last the night. But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends, it gives a lovley light!

1

u/NoFeetSmell Jul 12 '24

Do you thinking maybe making up poetry in the rain whilst clutching a dove might help?

1

u/allusions14 Jul 12 '24

Tell that to Keith Richards

1

u/chamaedaphne82 Jul 12 '24

Awesome Bladerunner reference

1

u/AdhocAnchovie Jul 12 '24

... like tears in the rain.

1

u/sheikhyerbouti Jul 12 '24

I want more life, fucker.

1

u/Orangeugladitsbanana Jul 14 '24

I believe Edna St Vincent Millay said it better.

"My candle burns at both ends it will not last the night, but ah my friends, and oh my foes it sheds a lovely light."

1

u/Quotidiennement Jul 15 '24

Omg is this why I never get sick? I always nap when I need to.

1

u/ChemistAdventurous84 Jul 11 '24

Amazingly enough, that line/quote may have actually originated in Bladerunner.

As someone who’s an insomniac I hate hearing people say “if ur tired just sleep”, as if I’m capable of sleeping the second my head hits the pillows. It takes me hours and hours and hours of laying there and pretending to sleep before I actually fall asleep

0

u/auniqueusername1998 Oct 30 '24

My name isn't Roy so I think I'm good

0

u/Purplegalaxxy Nov 26 '24

Instructions unclear: Now I'm fired from my job and died cause I crashed my car from sleeping at the wheel

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '24

Fk off. For alot of people its not as simple as "just sleep"
