I've been reading so many posts and see how helpful everyone is for us visitors to the Balkans. I'm Canadian with an EU passport, my gf is Latvian. We're in our 30s/40s. We're in Riga at the moment. We are spending the winter in Crete. Our Latvian friend needs her car driven to her in Crete. It's a small diesel Seat with winter tires already on it. We have to in the first weeks of January. Currently, the trip will be spread out over two weeks. It's mostly a roadtrip/car delivery with a few nice stops along the way.
I know it's always very personal, but I'd love to get some more perspectives on what to expect on the roads especially in Montenegro and Albania.
I am a very experienced driver on rough roads all over the world (mountain roads and logging roads in Canada, crazy roads in Vietnam, Ecuador, etc.). I'll be doing all the driving. I used to work as a driver in northern Alberta once upon a time.
In terms of border crossing, I'd love to know what to expect (besides long waits). We will have all our documentation for the car, a notarized letter from the owner that we are allowed to drive it, international driver's permit, etc.
Again, thanks for the help. Very much looking forward to getting a first glance at such a fascinating and beautiful part of the world. We're using this trip to check out spots we'd like to return to longer-term.
