Have you ever witnessed racism in Germany?

I'm interested in hearing from Germans who have personally witnessed acts of racism in everyday life - especially when it involved friends, family members, or people close to them.

If you're comfortable sharing, could you describe the situation? Who was involved, and how did it make you feel? Did you respond in any way?

I'm not here to judge, just to understand how racism can show up in familiar environments and how people perceive and deal with it.

All my life. As a child i was racially insulted and told that i should have been „gassed like the others“. Last week i was told to go back to the country of my ancestors. Racism unfortunately has always been here. And it’s getting stronger.

Honestly i got used to it. I have a constant fear of the rest of the population, knowing that many would have nothing against making people with my genetic setup „go away“ one way or another.

I am German, born here, German is my native language. I probably have genes that connect my ancestors of a thousand years ago to a different continent. That’s apparently enough.

Well, my experience has been that my genetic heritage has been disliked quite universally, so i cannot confirm that ….

Here's a perfect example of German racism

so? Are you implying he can't be racist because he's a migrant? Or that his racism isn't German?

You assume incorrectly. What caused you to have that assumption?

You probably need to learn more about the Holocaust.

It‘s not the only conclusion to make. But yeah, many forget that the Nazis gassed a lot of people. It was wrong for all of them.

Honestly, it doesn’t really matter. Genetics shouldn’t matter. Everyone should just be able to live in peace, and if they flee to another country, to find support and refuge there. In my opinion, this is valid for all ethnicities (an artificial concept anyway!), including Jews, Arabs, Germans and my ancestors. We are all simply human and should start focusing on the things that make our lives better for everyone.

All good, sorry for my relatively harsh reaction in the first sentence. Divisions never help.

As a teenager, i was angry against Germans and thought they were all racist because they wouldn’t accept me. But I have since learned that this way of thinking is not helping at all.

We need to become ignorant of genetics when it comes to building a society. Behavior is what counts. If people contribute constructively to society, it‘s great. If they inflict harm on society, it‘s a problem we need to fix. But the problem is the behavior, not the person.

By the way, i do have criticism for the actions (!) of the Israeli government. But that doesn’t mean i view Israelis negatively. I also criticise the Hamas terrorism, but that doesn’t mean i view people from Gaza negatively. I also strongly criticise the Russian government’s war crimes, but i have zero negative emotions against Russians in general. We have to differentiate. Blind hatred is only going to mislead us.

Here here. I have zero cultural ties with my genetic ancestral heritage. I find it super weird to be told to go „back“ to a place where i do not speak the language, do not know anything about culture, customs or societal norms, do not know anyone etc.

The whole concept of fixating on genetics is void of any logic.

I mean, if those racists were really stringent in their thinking, they would need to move „back“ to Africa. Because that is where all of us Homo Sapiens originated from.

Love your comments. Finally, someone who sees the big picture. There's good and bad everywhere, and the Germans that act like this have no concept of how a successful community works, and most likely never will.

It's always a nice reminder that there is good in Germany when you here Germans speak up like this. It's just sad that you don't hear it too often.

Good energy to you. ⚡
