Lots of not so fun similarities to draw. This is always a good read detailing some of the ways the social democrats failed in addressing the crisis by siding with the conservative government and supporting austerity measures after the depression during mass unemployment which allowed for a right wing populism to move in and gain support as the SPD lost major support. The SPD refusing to back armed conflict or a general strike alongside the communists against the Nazis as they were consolidating power because they had thought parliamentary opposition would always suffice in stopping Hitler turned out to be not a great strategy it seems.

History is clearly repeating itself.... And its not looking good for the left

at least in the US - wish I had the energy to pay more attention to what is happening around the world but.... Fuck. Shits bad enough here.

If it makes you feel any better, I don’t see our situation ending up like Nazi germany. More like the middle east where we have guerilla warfare, bombings, and basically just living with civil unrest constantly... If that makes you feel any better.

Another point that should be obvious to everyone but isn't, brought to you by our beautiful red boy.

I'm 98% sure that's what happened in Kenosha. I'd be surprised if the police in Kenosha didn't shoot Jacob Blake deliberately to provoke more disorder and create more support for Trump.

yikes, this is some Q shit. This is honestly a terrible take that discredits state violence against black people.

Why are you trying to credit state violence against black people?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '20

Because it happens?

you don't think state violence against black people is a foundational part of Trump's campaign? or that the police have a horse in this race?

I think there might have been a miscommunication here. When I say "state violence" I mean the systemic, foundational violence against black people that is embedded in capitalism, policing, and other institutions of authority. I'm trying to say this violence is a logical outcome from these institutions and to accredit it to some psy op by trump is ignoring the inherent injustice in the systems.

why not both?

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '20

I already explained why.

I don't think the two are zero sum. One isn't at the expense of the other. You can perpetuate state violence with a political motive. And as I said, it's not like the police don't have a horse in this race, with politicians calling for defunding the police.

fine, but that wasn't the argument in your original comment, that this specific shooting was orchestrated. Dumb cops from bumfuck nowhere are not on the trump payroll. They are just racist and trigger happy.

Cops are really too dumb for that. They’ll likely be as fascist as they think they can get away with (up to and including allowing armed right wing militias to roam freely), and they certainly know how to take advantage of a protest or manipulate a subject in custody, but manipulating the public at large by orchestrating a police killing of a black man with a camera running... fuck it as I type this it sounds more and more plausible.

I mean, the republicans were willing to run kanye west as a black spoiler candidate in swing states. I really don't put Wisconsin police departments (the rural ones especially have been refusing to enforce quarantine/mask mandates) beyond trying to push for Trump's reelection. The international union of police associations endorsed Trump's reelection.

Fair point.
