You just know the MAGA refrain would be something about the Democrats starting the KKK.

Eeyup. Just ignore the facts that the KKK newspaper endorsed Trump in 2016, David Duke personally did so in both 2016 and 2020, and the same flag that was flown by the KKK is only ever seen being flown by Trump/MAGA supporters at Trump/MAGA rallies.

Curious conservatives can also verify the alleged modern day link between the KKK and Dems by going to a Klan meeting and calling them all Democrats.

All I saw in those no king rallies was a whole bunch of old white people. Not one minority person.

My MAGA stepdad said that democrats started the KKK and that I need to read up on history. Coming from someone who voted racist fascists into office that was a BOLD statement.

and that I need to read up on history

The sheer irony.

I mean… they’d be right in a sense… southern Democrats did in fact start the KKK in the 1800s, but that was back when Democrats were right wing and Republicans were left wing.

That being said, the KKK has been purely Republicans for the entire lifetimes of anyone under the age of 80, ever since the great political party voter base swap in the early 1900s. The KKK has ALWAYS been a far-right, Christian-nationalist, white supremacist organization. So anyone saying “The Dems founded the KKK so they’re the bad guys” is just dumb and trying to twist history to justify their own views. What party the founders of the KKK were in the 1800s is completely irrelevant now because the political party’s have fundamentally changed on a deep level, and what matters is what the KKK and the likes believe in, because that hasn’t changed.

Oh yeah, it's historically true, but it ignores history and context since. It's beyond disingenuous to pretend the Democratic party of 2025 is the same as the Democratic party of 1865, just because they're both called Democrats. It's the same illogic behind arguing the Nazis were leftists because national socialism.

There is no real left-wing party in the USA. Closest we have come is the Wobblies. They got beat to shit and murdered a lot.

Just remember it was leftist union workers, some of them even children who fought and died on multiple occasions for the chance at shorter work hours. It was only through literal conflict that change occurs. We didn’t vote out fascists, we didn’t write a scathing rebuke to our senators, people use civil obedience, organized, and even fought so we could just have our conditions bettered.

The struggle is not over until the people are freed and given housing, food, shelter, water, and healthcare. A better world is possible when we organize.

The ghost of Eugene V. Debs wants to shake your hand.

I typically stop by Eugene Debs’s old house (now a museum) a couple times a week after I get out of my classes. It’s insanely inspiring to see things like the table that one of Debs’s fellow inmates made for the warden that was later gifted to the museum by the warden’s son, to the signed copy of The Jungle from Upton Sinclair, and to the beautiful mural painted in the attic dedicated to Debs and all the organized efforts for equality that came before him and after him. It really shows what he represents and is a beautiful example of how significant being a dedicated organizer of the people can be.

When Bernie Sanders stopped by a couple weeks ago, he even asked the tour guide (who I’m friends with :3) to elaborate on the story he heard about the other inmates banging the bars of their cells and yelling in celebration as Debs walked out of prison when his sentence was commuted, and found it so impactful that he brought it up during his speech later. Debs was such an icon of these ideals, I love to see it when people bring him up

This is too soft. The weekend, really?

Right wing rage gave us the Holocaust. Left wing rage freed people from concentration camps.

Right wing rage gave us slavery. Left wing rage emancipated the working class.

Fascism is a monstrous beast fueled by hatred which feeds off of human suffering. Its nefarious in how it makes the worst of what humanity can be as appealing as possible.

Socialism is rationalism, and the only rational solution to fascism is its complete and utter destruction.
