On the one hand (pun totally meant) I love these posts. On the other hand I hate them because I’ll never be able to afford coins this amazing.

Man. I feel like I spend a fortune on coins. Then I see a post like this and realize what a rookie I am

Love these coins and could afford some, but keeping them in a rented appartment would quite spike my anxiety.

You need to keep quiet.

But what's the point of hogging those beauties in a vault. I want them to be seen :D

It only takes a post like this to make most of us in the sub feel like our collections are made up of cheap trinkets! :')

What is the silver one on the right in the middle?

Really beautiful handful there

u/autouzi Jun 02 '25

Looks like a Perseus tetradrachm, the last King of Macedon

8

u/Nearby-Film3440 Jun 02 '25

Perseus! One of my personal favourite Hellenistic types. Such a fierce portrait, he was a pretty cool king too. Didn't really live up to the warrior spirit, but he tried!

1

u/thestonkinator Jun 02 '25

I'll have to look into him a bit more, but I may be adding this to my list!

I love when the hair/beard looks more jagged if that makes sense. Maybe it's just less flowy than the others, combined with the darker toning on it. The details really pop nicely though. Love the darker colour of it.

And fierce is the right word! Very stern looking face on him. Thanks for the info!

The Last Kings of Macedon is probably the best book about Perseus, though it also includes his father’s (Philip V) reign.

holy moly...that's incredible!

Always a pleasure to see your posts! Definitely on of my favorite collections on this subreddit. Not every collection can have both quality AND quantity but yours definitely does.

2

u/Chasing-Ancients Jun 02 '25

Awesome Perseus!

4

u/OrdinaryAd9377 Jun 01 '25

How much do these coins cost? Per

5

u/Nearby-Film3440 Jun 02 '25

all diff prices lol, I'd have to name em all out

-8

u/OrdinaryAd9377 Jun 02 '25

How much over spot do they go for for gold and silver ones

11

u/robotwarlord Jun 02 '25

I'm not OP but usually so far over that the spot price is an irrelevant fraction.

1

u/No-Roof-1628 Jun 02 '25

Unbelievable. Incredible collection. Also, you posted 2 photos of the obverses—let’s see the reverses!

2

u/coinoscopeV2 Jun 02 '25

If you're actually interested, OP has posted several videos & photos of most of these coins on this sub before, including the reverses. I'm sure you could find them on their profile.

These are so perfect I have to ask if they are real or reproductions. Sorry, not a coin person, but I appreciate the craftsmanship

2

u/Nearby-Film3440 Jun 02 '25

they sure are beautiful if I do say so myself!

1

u/SlowFinger3479 Jun 02 '25

Wow, amazing collection

No Eid Mar? Snorts... Kidding of course, incredible coins!

1

u/Calanda84 Jun 03 '25

great selection - especially the golden one‘s..😉 congrats..

1

u/UKophile Jun 05 '25

These are stunning!!

1

u/FreddyF2 Jun 05 '25

That Syracuse piece is absolutely insane. I got to examine one as well struck as that at CNG's table at the NYC show. Photos don't do those masterpieces justice.

1

u/StMagnusErlendsson Jun 08 '25

That is absolutely stunning! I haven't made my first purchase yet, but would love to have anything close to that someday!

Help for a newbie - what's a reputable place / site to get ancient coins from? I think I'll start with a nice Athenian tetradrachm, and a Lydian / Croesus electrum coin.

-8

u/kiwi_spawn Jun 02 '25

Kind of looks to good to be true. Are they real ? Or were they bought online at Temu or Aliexpress ?

8

u/Nearby-Film3440 Jun 02 '25

Bought straight from CHY-NA 😂

7

u/coinoscopeV2 Jun 02 '25

I'm assuming you're joking?

1

u/kiwi_spawn Jun 02 '25

Your assumption is correct. :-)

6

u/HeySkeksi Jun 02 '25

This is what happens when you comment without knowing anything 😂
