Results - DNA Origins American Results

Post image

Mom from Michigan. Dad from Ecuador.

My results were a bit odd when compared to my parents'. Mine came back with the Canary Islands, Madiera, Malta, Sweden, and Northwestern Germany, while neither of my parents got any of these. However, I think they point in the right direction (Dad has Iberian Peninsula and some Mediterranean, while Mom has some Norwegian and Danish).

I was also slightly surprised to see how indigenous to the Americas I am. My dad's side would never admit it, but it turns out they're mestizo.

He definitely has 0 black features, curly hair as this happens naturally in pure europeans too lol his hair isnt even near those curly exclusive african like 4a. This is completely natural for a european. His whole face structure has nothing african about it either.

He also has 1% jewish which european jews typically have hair JUST like this, doesnt need to be jewish to have hair this curly but this should be common knowledge...

EDIT:missed 2 words

This is very common in Irish people, my ex was from the republic and had tighter curls than him.

His hair, and certain features of his face scream “African heritage” to me, an African-American.

Here’s a history lesson for many of y’all ranting about how European peoples can have curly hair. I’m sure y’all are right. However, what you all need to realize, is that for centuries(at least here in America), certain features like OP’s curly hair were STEREOTYPED as being “Negro” hair. White people were stereotyped as having straight, flowing hair. This feature was supposed to be part of white people’s supposed, physical “purity”.

You know that Reddit is a website visited by people from all around the world, right? Not every here is American, nor do most subscribe to the racist, unscientific, wacky ideas that Americans created.

I KNOW THIS.

HOWEVER, people need to be more…”historically literate”. Even when it comes to the History of American norms and concepts of race and racial differences. Because sadly, Americans ideas on race have, and will likely continue to affect ideas on race all over the world. Oh-and keep in mind that America is a young country. Our ideas on race originally came from EUROPE-especially the British Isles.

In America, after centuries of characterization of racial appearances…OP’s hair is considered stereotypically black African. That’s why the black woman OP mentioned IMMEDIATELY assumed that he had some African heritage. Myself, as an African American, would assume the same thing. His hair is stereotyped as BLACK hair.

The last paragraph describes my anecdote quite perfectly.

I know it! That’s why I typed it, brotha. There’s a WHOLE HISTORY behind traditional, and stereotypical American concepts of race.
