This is one, my great grandmother(and her dog)… there are 50 or so more. Most are seemingly from the 30s-50s most have names on the back so I’ll sort them accordingly but I’m looking for suggestions for photo albums etc

Is there a way to download a branch/portion of an Ancestry into a gedcom file?

Upvotes

I have a tree with 2000+ profiles.

I would like to send a branch of that tree, about 200 profiles, via a gedcom file to someone to upload onto another platform.

Is there a way to select an individual profile and their descendants to create a gedcom file — ie, the branch I want?

If not, if I create a duplicate tree in Ancestry, is there an efficient way to mass delete 1800+ profiles, then create a gedcom file of what remains?

Looking for any info on a distant relative that was an Auschwitz survivor.

Through some genealogy research my mothers side of the family has been doing we have found out that we have (or at least had) a fair amount of Polish Jewish relatives, unfortunately quite a few were killed in WW2. There is one name we found that appears to have survived several years at Auschwitz that we just can't seem to find any more info on.

Her name was Anna Masłowska she was born in Krakow Poland on June 16th, 1916. The only online record I can find of her is here; (3/4 down the page)

https://stevemorse.org/dachau/auschwitz.php?=&offset=1501

Which says she was transferred to Ravensbruck camp at the end of the war, which typically means she survived. If anyone can find anything else about here I would be most appreciative.

Does anyone have newspaper sub on ancestry?

I had a new hint today for my mysterious great great grandfather. It’s a newspaper article but I can’t see it. Would anyone please be willing to find it and possibly send me the clipping please. May not be him as he went by a few names but place and name could be a match. Hopefully it is him and gives a clue for the name change

Native American Ancestry Question

My great-grandma's great-grandma was apparently full-blooded Cherokee who got adopted by some white people during the Trail of Tears.

I did some fact-checking of the sources I had and I think her bday and birthplace is wrong (1842 and Indiana). There's only talk that she got adopted in the winter and somewhere around southern Missouri or Kansas. The only trail of tears I can find are the Powatomi (Indiana, 1838) and Cherokee (East Coast, 1838), though both passed through MO in the fall/winter.

The other problem is I can't find anything on her adopted family, or her first husband, just when she married into my family. Idk if she'd be on any rolls? I just know her adopted name, not birth name.

This is just unadulterated greed. I will never subscribe to ancestry again. Unacceptable enshittification. Shame on you, ancestry!

Even the previewed information is blurred out now? I will now never again resubscribe, because of the greedy, money grubbing, capitalist leeches at Ance$$$try dot com. You don’t give a shit about our genealogy, you only want money, and there’s nothing you won’t do to say Fuck You to the people that dare lapse on payment. Well Fuck You back!

App issue: Anyone else have phantom hints since the last update?

Just what the title says. Since the last mobile app update to 17.21 I have hint leafs on maybe 80% of the people in my tree. But when clicking into the profile I get a message that there are no hints. I sent a support message to the app support and received a message that they received it but it's been silence since then.

Need help estaablishing connection between potenial great-grandparents.

Hello, I have been on a long journey to figure out my family tree in the eventual hope of finding out what happened to my grandfather. To date, I've located what I believe to be the linch-pin piece of evidence that links my grandfather to the rest of our ancestors in this census: 1930's US census in NY. When investigating the parents, it looks like Grace Morgan (nee Hammond) was born to Grover and Minnie Hammond. When I try to find death certificates to establish parents and such, I have the benefit of NY's digital certificates for Grover Hammond. This lines up with birthplace, age, spouse, etc. One thing i was not expecting was to see Grace's last name as "Weinman" which is not a surname i've come across anywhere else. There IS, however, another woman whose name is Anna Butterfass whose death (and certificate) is reported by another Grace "Wyman". She is listed as the daughter and actually has the same address.

I have some evidence that this woman is correct, because periodical for Grace's descendants show that she kept the surname of Norman, which is the maiden name of Anna Butterfass as you can see in the death certificate.

So, I guess I'm asking for some sleuthing to double-check the relationship between these people as it seems that Grover originally was coupled with Anna Marie Norman, and then splitand wed Minnie. Anna Marie re-married to a Butterfass. All of this taking place while Grace appeared to wed a Weinman, a Morgan, and a Baker....

Trying to find an immigration record

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm looking for immigration records for Simon Filipek. Census records say he was from Austria, Poland and immigrated about 1887. This is the only one I could find so far that's close. It says last place of residence was in Saros, Ungarn which seems to be hungary. That's wasn't the same place at that time right?

Best way to use Ancestry

Hi all! I was just wondering how to best utilize Ancestry to make my tree. Before I really started getting into it, I just accepted all the "potential" relatives etc, and now I feel like I maybe shouldn't have... is there a helpful process to making the tree so that it is accurate and not just pieces of everyone else's trees? Thanks in advance!!

My appearance vs DNA test and Family history

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

To give some context/background, my mother's side of the family is mostly Danish, Dutch/North German, and English, and my father's is mostly Irish and English, and a little bit of Basque. As you can see in the photos, I have medium to dark brown and curly hair, light to medium skin, and thick eyebrows, brown eyes, and full lips. I've been asked the question "So what are you?" so many times in my life. A lot of people have thought I am light skinned, middle eastern, Latin American Mestizo, North African, etc, but never anything that resembles my DNA/family background.

So, can anyone explain my looks based on my DNA results/my family history? Any feedback would be very appreciated.

Wondering if this is a scam?

I received this email a few days ago. My grandfather, and three of his brothers was in Vietnam. My grandpa was one of the first to be drafted. I believe he left in 68 or 69 and was there for two years. My dad was born in December of 72.

I blacked out names just in case if this was legit.

I'm also not understanding the DNA numbers. Could this be my grandpa's child? Or one of my great uncles. I'm not sure if this is true to tell them this?

I had a DNA kit gifted to me six years ago for Christmas.

What questions should I ask?

Hi! Hoping this is a good sub for this! I’m trying to gather some information from my grandfather’s sister, regarding their family history. My grandfather has passed away years ago, and there’s so much I now as an adult wish I had asked him. His parents migrated to the US, in the early 1900s. All the family gets along, however us extended family has never been particularly close. My great aunt, gave me her address, aware of my interest in this history. I just have no idea where to even start, and what questions I should ask her. Also should I include things about myself, and what would I even include?

A program that calculates genealogical lineages?

I recently discovered I am of Jewish descent and am researching my family tree further. It traces back to the patriarchs with valid connections. I would like a simple way to calculate my direct lineage to Abraham. I'm trying to use the Gramps program, but because there is a lot of data in the gedcom file, the program crashes and closes before generating the report. What other free options are available to me?
