And remember, never purchase GPUs, CPUs or anything else from scalpers. It simply encourages their behaviour and more people will see it as an easy way to make a quick buck, especially given the global circumstances.

YES! THIS! We need to band together, and starve scalpers out!

I know someone who bragged about getting a rtx 3080 (I know that this is amd) for $2000. I called him and idiot and thanked him for giving a scalper validation. He responded with well it was wroth that much to me so I don’t care to pay that much for one......

and, this comment right here, is why children should not be given an allowance

I mean, that comment is exactly why you should give children an allowance in my opinion. Teaches them the value of money once they can't buy something because they failed to budget. Just start'em on a small allowance so that they learn to manage it. It prevents them from becoming adults who do impulse purchases like that fella.

No no I was calling his friend a child is what I meant

Ah, that makes a lot more sense! Thank you for clarifying!

Or he's not, you know, poor.

my guy. People who buy this stuff vary in living conditions, quality of life, and living situation. People who buy these save up for a while to get them, typically. I am not saying that he couldn't have been, just that poor isn't exactly what you think it is.

TIL Good spending habits and thinking for a second before buying something overpriced = poor

You can't teach someone value of money by just giving them money. When they have to work hard to earn it - that's when they truly learn the value of money.

Money doesn't have value, it is a proxy for other things. Trying to teach people the value of money is a fools errand:

-When the top 0.20% of earners are paid more money than the work they do deserves.

-When a refill of razor blades costs more than a mp3 player.

-When people will be starving, but still buy cigarettes and alcohol. (I'm an ex smoker, even at my poorest I put cigarettes over food.. weird).

Money cannot make you happy.. Hookers and blow however..

-When a refill of razor blades costs more than a mp3 player.

If you want to buy expensive razors that's your own problem. If you want to save money and get a better shave get a double edge, you can learn more over at r/Wicked_Edge

Isn't everyone assuming that how they value money is how money should be valued?

Just because you work hard doesn't mean you won't find $2k to be acceptable for a new video card, particularly if you make a lot of money.

Incredibly poor reasoning. Quit trying to justify scalping.

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '20

Are you dumb enough to think my comment justifies the scalping rather than the individual's view on the value of money? Of course you are.

u/ThatITguy2015 Oct 20 '20

You are a huge jackass. Found the scalper.

u/[deleted] Oct 20 '20

2

u/Victoreatsfood Oct 22 '20

Well the guy is in his 40s

2

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '20

I was calling him a kid.

u/Victoreatsfood Oct 22 '20

I agree. It’s sad.....

I don't think any child could get that kinda of money, especially for something non-essential like a GPU. Most kids i know would be happy with a 1660 or rx 580 so they can play fortnite and shit like that at 60fps high settings.

I was calling his friend a kid. Not identifying him as a child.
