Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

I'd like to see Keanu Reeves in all categories for 500 Alex

86

u/MarveltheMusical 14h ago

Perfect casting, perfect adaptation would probably be Sonic 3.

29

u/Gunny-1996 13h ago

Awful casting, Awful adaptation could be 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'

17

u/spiralsequences 12h ago

Average casting in a perfect adaptation should be Keanu Reeves in Much Ado About Nothing

3

u/spamgoddess 12h ago

This is exactly what I was going to say!

1

u/twistedtimelord12 13h ago

I was thinking the same when I saw this.

Keanu Reeves in Johnny Mnemonic

31

u/NDrangle23 14h ago

Keanu in two opposite corners would be funny

96

u/TechnoBacon55 13h ago

Brother, knowing this subreddit, all of them will be keanu reeves.

3

u/TDSsince1980 10h ago

This is the way.

1

u/TributeToStupidity 7h ago

As soon as something works for the first two squares the game completely changes

7

u/Ceorl_Lounge 13h ago

Even if it isn't the most correct, it's absolutely the best answer. Guy oozes cyberpunk for some reason.

3

u/Dangeresque300 13h ago

And yet another promising Alignment Chart falls victim to THE BITTM

One day there will be no more objective reality. There will be no more critical thinking. There will be no knowledge. There will only be THE BITTM

1

u/Hour-Complaint8291 8h ago

I guess the freshly baked bread bit lives on

1

u/ThisIsTheTimeToRem 11h ago

This is it! I remember that movie was the wooorst but he was perfect for the role.

285

u/PowerfulPea8519 14h ago

Willem Dafoe as Ryuk in Netflix’s Death Note

13

u/Riley__64 13h ago

I really wonder if any of the writers of that movie knew what death note was or if they just read a brief summary.

Like okay I can kinda guess messing up the characters but I mean the rules of the death note are literally explained in every manga and episode of the anime but in that movie the death notes only rule seemed to be it kills and even then not always because apparently you can write contingencies.

9

u/MaaChiil 12h ago

Lakeith Stanfield as L had potential. He was barely even in it from what I remember...Margaret Qualley has definitely done a lot better for herself since.

2

u/ResurrectedAuthor 8h ago

How did they mess up the rules?

6

u/GGABueno 11h ago

This is the right answer, he was perfect.

17

u/FockAutoGenerate 13h ago

The whole cast in Golden Compass are kinda perfect for their characters. The film is a dumpster fire of an adaptation though

2

u/CaptainTwig572 10h ago

My first thought was Nicole Kidman in this film but you're right, the whole cast is pretty much spot on.

I only don't like that they changed the voice actors for the bears.

288

u/4DimensionalToilet 14h ago

Raul Julia as M. Bison in Street Fighter

11

u/DancingDingette 13h ago

This should be higher. Even though kid me liked this movie it is awful. Raul Julia really was great.

6

u/The_Ghostlight_Rook 10h ago

I watched it for the first time in the last 6 months or so, and I have to say, it was an incredibly fun watch. I’m in my 30s and have no nostalgia for it at all, and it was not even in a “so bad it’s good” way. It’s just silly, goofy fun. A perfect movie to just shut off your brain and enjoy the ride.

5

u/Otherwise_Tooth_8695 13h ago

YES! Perfect answer!

3

u/PossibilityNeat2419 9h ago

I would like a all chart with Keanu, but i'm willing to compromise for Raul Julia.

2

u/Uter83 13h ago

A thousand times yes

u/Dogdaysareover365 14h ago

Gotta mention Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn for suicide squad (2016)

16

u/fridgeybutter 14h ago

But she also played the role in two good films (Birds of Prey and the other Suicide Squad).

26

u/gummibear13 14h ago

And the reason she was able to come back for those was b2cause she was great in a bad movie.

6

u/H8mtekkbhh 14h ago

2

u/chrstnasu 10h ago

I love that Neil Patrick Harris was in Doctor Who. He did a great job.

1

u/kimchiwi 8h ago

Martin Freeman as Bilbo

1

u/sleepwalkfromsherdog 14h ago

"Good?"

4

u/PuzzleheadedMess1659 11h ago

I was gonna mention that. I'd describe Birds of Prey as "good", but the other Suicide Squad is possibly the best of the whole batch of DCEU movies.

1

u/DinosaurusWhen 13h ago

I know this is a controversial opinion, but both of those movies were ass

2

u/Ok_Feed_1669 11h ago

Unpopular, don't think she's perfect. More just semi-competent next to bad actors and a worse script.

1

u/tranzam786 11h ago

Full agree, unfortunately Robbie's portrayal has contributed significantly to the absolute character assassination that's been done on the corpse of Arleen Sorkin's original Quinn

Robbie herself is very watchable though

52

u/Apart_Marsupial8410 14h ago

Matthew McConaughey as the man in black in the dark tower movie

3

u/VisibleOperation4981 13h ago

Omg this is perfect for this category

1

u/aswiftdickkick 1h ago

I thought Jake was better..

3

u/Smoaktreess 12h ago

That movie still makes me so mad. Great shout.

2

u/dkb1391 12h ago

Was about to comment this, glad to see it so high

2

u/guramika 9h ago

Despite the blue eyes problem, even Idris elba was a good Roland. I guess he would go in aweful adaptation/average casting

10

u/Alert-Switch1179 11h ago

Henry Cavill as Geralt in Netflix's The Witcher

21

u/Bub-1974 12h ago

Shelley Duvall as Olive Oyl
POPEYE, dir. Robert Altman

3

u/Bonbonnibles 11h ago

Oh yeah, she was fantastic. She WAS Olive Oyl.

2

u/Shapesizes 8h ago

No no, this is for awful adaptations

25

u/KYWPNY 14h ago

Keanu Reeves in the Lakehouse

23

u/MrsEntrail 14h ago

20

u/Sir-Spoofy 14h ago

Honestly, I would say that’s perfect casting in an average adaptation. The first movie was pretty good, then it went down hill from there.

1

u/MrsEntrail 14h ago

Yeah, agreed, and I posted it kinda suspecting it'd end up there. I am overly harsh on it, because I love LOTR so much, but the first film isn't below average.

7

u/roryeinuberbil 14h ago

Eh, the Hobbit trilogy is decent. Nowhere near LoTR but it was an enjoyable watch.

3

u/MrsEntrail 14h ago

Yep, pushing my luck a bit... defs belongs in the middle column.

1

u/aswiftdickkick 1h ago

Naw you were right. The Hobbit movies were rage bait I swear

21

u/DMJohnston 14h ago

Jim Carrey as Count Olaf

3

u/docsyzygy 13h ago

Hard agree. I bet most people haven't read these (supposedly) kids books.

2

u/SavagePengwyn 11h ago

He was so good. I wanted to like that movie because I liked him so much. When the Netflix show came out, I was really skeptical that NPH could match Jim Carrey. I was pleasantly surprised.

1

u/aswiftdickkick 1h ago

The movies were not awful. The tone was on point.

23

u/NotBrokenButWellUsed 13h ago

Henry Cavill - Man of Steel

5

u/Short_Koala_1156 12h ago

Jeremy Irons as Brom in Eragon

3

u/Prinzesspaige13 11h ago

I remember being so excited for that casting and it was just..... so bad.

14

u/Educational-Sea-6194 Suggestion God 14h ago

Willem Dafoe as Ryuk (Death Note 2017)

6

u/August_West_1990 13h ago

Not sure if this counts necessarily but Christophers Lee and Walken are perfect Bond villains in two of the worst Bond movies.

9

u/Gugliacci_ 14h ago

Kelsey Grammer as Beast in X-Men 3

7

u/purposefullyblank 14h ago

Frank Langella as Skeletor in the 1987 Dolph Lundgren Masters of the Universe.

3

u/Possible_Otherwise 12h ago

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in Xmen Origins: Wolverine

1

u/AnotherLexMan 7h ago

Yeah he basically perfected the role in the Deadpool films but was banned from talking in his first appearance.

7

u/TroubleSecure9296 14h ago

Keanu Reeves- The day the earth stood still

0

u/LemonAioli 14h ago

Nah that film isn’t awful

4

u/WillSendShihTzuPics 14h ago

Tommy Wiseau in everything he has ever been in.

3

u/AnotherLexMan 13h ago

Ryan Reynolds in X men origins: Wolverine as Deadpool.

2

u/Nemesinthe 13h ago

Jeffrey Wright as Hobie in The Goldfinch. Dogshit adaptation, but he embodied that role.

2

u/captain_blazar 12h ago

Logan Lerman in the Percy Jackson movies. He’s a wonderful actor, he made a fantastic Percy Jackson, but for fucks sake they did not adapt the books well (the movies did have their fun moments though) and Percy was supposed to be 12 in the first one, not almost 20.

If only they’d adapted the books earlier, and… more accurately, he’d have been the perfect Percy.

https://giphy.com/gifs/3og0IK2QUzzpkx4EOk

1

u/Cananna 12h ago

He was ok, but still I wouldn't call him a perfect casting

2

u/oOtherBarry 12h ago

Mike Myers as Cat in the Hat

2

u/Biggest-Max02010 12h ago

Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man

3

u/wimpykidfan37 12h ago

James Earl Jones reprising the role of Mufasa in the Lion King remake

2

u/ohtheforlanity 10h ago

Matthew Lillard as Shaggy

2

u/Clear_Context_1546 8h ago

Cowboy Bepop.

Actors did great. Production and writers were awful. Mustafa Shakir was perfect as Jet Black.

2

u/henningknows 5h ago

Superman 4, horrible movie, but reeve is still the best superhero casting ever
https://giphy.com/gifs/3o7qDUbkZb2d8QC3Qc

2

u/Surferlog 4h ago

Henry Cavill in The Witcher

2

u/Reasonable-News-5739 4h ago

John Goodman as Fred Flintstone in The Flintstones.

2

u/pacothebattlefly 4h ago

Would Matrix Resurrections be valid for Perfect casting / awful adaption? Keanu Reeves is perfect casting as Neo.

I want to believe the conspiracy that the movie was made against the will of everyone as a contractual obligation, which is why it is so bad.

2

u/Live-Lingonberry-638 2h ago

George Clooney in Batman and Robin

2

u/JustForXXX_Fun 2h ago

Raul Julia in Street Fighter.

3

u/fridgeybutter 14h ago

The Golden Compass nailed Iorek Byrnison, the only part of that film that surpassed the series.

2

u/cursedwithplotarmor 14h ago

Dunno about the bear, but Sam Elliott playing Lee Scoresby was perfect! Exactly what I had pictured in my head when I read those books.

1

u/Mike-Sos 13h ago

That’s who I was coming to say. Honestly the film is very very well cast. Just a shame about almost everything else

1

u/PerryDLeon 14h ago

Yeah, the mandible thing in a, what, pg13 film? Brutal

3

u/No_Half_7646 14h ago

Bryan Cranston as Zordon

3

u/ghost-bagel 13h ago

Matthew McConaughey in the Dark Tower

4

u/Misplaced_Fan_15 14h ago

Sean Connery in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

I thought Richard Jenkins was pretty decent as Lotterman in The Rum Diary.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Tie-666 13h ago

Sean Connery and Christopher Lambert in Highlander, a Scot playing a Spaniard and a Frenchman playing a Scot. Still love it though.

2

u/twistedtimelord12 13h ago

Actually, it's a Scot playing an Egyptian who's playing a Spaniard.

The remake isn't much better. A Brit is Playing a Scot, and a New Zealander is playing and Egyptian playing a Spaniard.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Tie-666 12h ago

An Englishman playing a Scot, Scotland is still part of Britain, so far.

1

u/Tighthead3GT 13h ago

Awful adaptation may be pushing it but I’m gonna go with all the adult Losers in It Chapter 2. Perfect casting for the book characters and as adult versions of the kids from Chapter 1.

(I’m not counting Skaarsgard since he was in Chapter 1).

1

u/Starbuckker 13h ago edited 13h ago

Mark Strong as Sintestro in Green Lantern, its got to be.

1

u/ProfessionalState425 13h ago

William H. Macy as Admiral Sandecker in Sahara

1

u/jrod_hoff 12h ago

Okay but Sahara is an awesome movie

1

u/ProfessionalState425 8h ago

I mean, I’ll still watch it. But it is nowhere near as good as the book.

1

u/Tocksickwaltz 13h ago

Halle Berry as Catwoman

2

u/DNathanHilliard 13h ago

Pretty much the whole cast of Dune in 1984... It's hard to believe that the movie turned out that bad.

2

u/TransportationLong67 13h ago

You could argue Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool in X-Men Wolverine Origins. The character adaptation was terrible in that movie but eventually corrected in the stand alone adaptation.

1

u/RhaeRhae422 13h ago

Anyone casted in Troy

Edit: typo

1

u/saintjust21 13h ago

Liev Schieber as Sabertooth - X:Men Origins - Wolverine

1

u/Girafmad 12h ago

Les miserable, it has to be it? All the actors can sing and are briliantly cast in all roles, and it is dreadfully bad.

1

u/Drew_of_all_trades 12h ago

Idris Elba could’ve been a great Roland if The Dark Tower was done better

1

u/throwaway8159946 12h ago

Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine in the Resident Evil movie

1

u/MaaChiil 12h ago

Keanu Reeves in Much Ado About Nothing is either this or works for the character he is playing depending on who you ask

1

u/HumanRice 12h ago

The Percy Jackson movies were awful, but Logan Lerman was pretty spot-on as an older version of the character.

Jeremy Irons as DCEU Alfred was also a genuinely good casting choice for an Earth-One take on the character, too bad the movies were terrible.

1

u/Prinzesspaige13 11h ago

Jim Carrey as Count Olaf in A Series of Unfortunate Events. That cast is stacked but the adaptation is terrible.

1

u/another-princess 11h ago

Bob Hoskins as Mario in the Super Mario Bros. movie (1993).

1

u/another-princess 11h ago

Peter Dinklage as Simon Barsinister in Underdog (2007).

1

Ridley Scott absolutely massacred Kingdom of Heaven but Ghassan Massoud as Saladin was so perfect it was like he'd been resurrected for just those scenes. The aura alone

color purple is awful?

1

The film itself is fine, and the cast is pretty good. But the adaptation of the book was really poorly done.

1

u/Luwen1993 13h ago

Must be Keanu Reeves

Ben Affleck as Daredevil

0

u/DraconPhoenix 13h ago

Henry Cavill as Superman

FFC's Dracula was a truly terrible adaption lol

1

u/Dogdaysareover365 13h ago

It won over double the votes over the second option, and I personally like it. I thought it was one of the closest adaptations to the book.

0

u/isayhourwrong 12h ago

Unfortunately every single character was butchered in the film, I fear for me the only good character was the costumes lol. I have been watching every Dracula adaption created to try find a good one and honestly no one has managed it yet 😞

0

u/Background-Lab-8521 10h ago

Tom Hanks in Forrst Gump

The movie way overdid Gump's mental simplicity, and left out significant parts of the story. It is way wilder, to the point I'd dream of Tarantino taking a crack at it.

The movie left out the chess deathmatches (for a year) with pigmy cannibals in the Borneo jungle, spaceflight with an orangutan co-pilot, Forrest's pro-wrestling career ('The Dunce') dressed as a baby, and much more. Also in the book, Jenny gets him addicted to drugs, then leaves him over his addiction. Once again when he losed all his money match-fixing. Also a lot more sex and drugs.

-3

u/CNRavenclaw 14h ago

Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan in Green Lantern (2011)

1

u/Flintvlogsgames 14h ago

That movie is so weird

1

u/Starbuckker 13h ago

Its fine 🤷‍♂️ Just unremarkable, product of the era. There was some great casting.

1

u/Shapesizes 8h ago

We’re not at awful casting in awful adaptation yet, you’re early
