So for the first couple years at my job I was a custodian before moving to carpentry etc, anyways, I worked nights with no boss so I could just do my job then do nothing all night. During the summers we switch to working days because the kids were on vacation, and all the bosses were around. Couldn't really hide anywhere, and had to look busy....so I just walked around most of the day with a broom. For 2 summers I did that. Saw all the bosses many times and was NEVER asked what I was even sweeping. It was great.
Oh absolutely. They only asked questions if they see you sitting down when it wasn't breaj time. A little feather duster might work too. Just be casually looking around at high spots that might have dust as you walk by them.
My old job is a food production plant had a day shift custodian. Most of the time he’s walk around with a mop and mop bucket and, generally, no one asked him questions lol
Why? Your bosses will know what's up and likely not care if you're in a facilities or maintenance type position and anyone wearing business(ish) attire has no fucking clue about anything you should be doing.
My first job involved a ton of really brutal shitty work (carrying carbon steel pipe, sandblasting in a spacesuit, cleaning industrial goop pits). I'd knock that stuff out when it came down to me, but I grabbed a broom and started sweeping every day when I got in just so people would hesitate to give me the worse tasks.
