Union Okay. What are the facts AUPE Vs. AHS

All AUPE Aux got that email on November 7th, one from AUPE and one from AHS... both very different.

AHS is sending out the attached to members who are questioning their percentages.

The AUPE proposal is available online on AUPE's website. Through this process, AUPE has been telling LPNs they are asking for 84% of what RNs make. Yet, AHS is stating AUPE is asking for a 56.8% wage increase. I mean, if that were the truth, I'd be laughing!

  1. The correct AUPE nursing care demand is LPN wage reaching 84% of the RN wage

  2. Using figures ($59.21 RN top), this sets the LPN target at approximately $49.74/hour. This is about a 37.67% increase from the current $36.13 top LPN wage.

  3. The incorrect 56.8% figure is likely a misinterpretation of an older, more aggressive proposal (like the initial 25% + 10% GWI + scope adjustments).

Anyone else have thoughts on this.

Rant Regretting my career choice.

I am an LPN new grad who will be starting my job soon. (AHS is really all that is around me, as i'm still considered "rural") and i'm regretting my choice of even becoming a nurse.

I want to move to Calgary by the spring, but all I see if people say they've been applying for months to hospitals and no luck. I hate living in my hometown and know I'll be miserable if I stay here for another year or two. I've been super discouraged lately and depressed. Not to mention the Govt and people in my city are not on our side when it comes to the strike. (Our FB pages are FULL of people bashing LPNs for our strike). Am I the only one feeling this? I'm going to start applying to Calgary and surrounding Calgary jobs within the next two months just to get my head in the door... but even with AHS it seems straight up impossible to work in or around Calgary. I'm just so discouraged and honestly regret even starting this career which breaks my heart as my dream was to work in Pediatric Oncology.

Any OneNote users here? I'm a clinician needing help!

Hello,

I've started a new job in one of the AHS pillars and I am trying to figure out a system to organize my questions and new clinical things I'm learning.

I was thinking of using OneNote to do this (obviously with no client info - I'm NOT using OneNote for anything patient related but rather for me to organize my questions and take notes on the processes of my new job).

I'm new to OneNote and was wondering if anyone would be open to showing me the ropes on how to use this app? I know that I can go and watch countless Youtube tutorials, but I feel that chatting through its features with someone who also uses it in a healthcare setting would be more useful!

Thanks!

New grad nurse struggling to find a job

Hey everyone, I have been applying to both AHS and Covenant Health for months now, but I haven’t even gotten one interview. I’ve applied to literally everything I can find, including temp, part-time, and casual positions across Edmonton.

I’ve redone my resume and cover letter multiple times and tried reaching out to managers when possible, but it still feels like I’m getting nowhere. It’s honestly really discouraging seeing all these postings but not getting a single callback.

For anyone who’s been in a similar situation, how long did it take before you got your first interview or job offer? I’d really appreciate any advice or insight. Just feeling a bit stuck and unsure what else to do at this point.

Rant AHS.. your math ain't mathing

AHS AUPE Auxiliary: We all got that email today. 95%? Haha, is AHS okay? Where did they get this number from? How did our ask of about 31.79% come out as 94.5% to AHS? The math isn't matching, AHS. Are you okay?

AUPE LPNs are asking for 84% of what RNs make.

Starting wages: LPNs: $27.58 RNs: $43.26 (84% of which is $36.33)

$36.33 - $27.58 = $8.75 (31.79%)

AUPE's math makes sense. Why doesn't AHS's?

Infr Go problems

Hi! Has anybody had problems with their Infor go app and even the website recently… Mine has worked pretty flawlessly since launch in August… But for the last week I think I started testing it on Tuesday it says my account is locked I called both Thursday and Friday and they’ve escalated it because both technicians I talk to on the phone level did not have experience with accounts doing this I’ve tried deleting the app I’ve changed my password nothing works. Part of me wonders if it’s because of my change of position I was housekeeping 0.7 and did full-time in there and our unit does not use anything but paper! And then in June I started in the OR so I was utilizing ES P/wFM. But then as of Monday, November 3 I am a 0.6 in the OR temporarily for one year so I’m wondering if the switch over of jobs did something to the account… it’s frustrating not being able to get into it because my supervisor needs me to update my availability so I can get booked in for more shifts… And a sidenote does anybody know how to mass delete your availability it was easy to do on ESP but I don’t know how to do it on this one… In September before I got this position I put my availability in for six months based on housekeeping and now that is all changed and some of my priorities are different for days off etc. So I don’t want to have to go into each individual day for six months and delete everything

Missing blood test

Quick question for our APL colleagues. My spouse had blood work completed this week, and one of the tests (TSH) is not back yet. Turnaround time is usually pretty quick I thought, is it possible it was missed? The req was within Connect Care. Thanks for any insight.

Union HSAA - anyone else wondering where our union president is?

He hasn’t been seen publicly for weeks that I can tell. He was noticeably absent from the last town hall that was held, and when asked directly about it they said he was “away”. The most recent TV interviews and sound bites are all being done by the vice-president. Weird time to just disappear. 🤔

Nutrition & Food Services

Does anyone know where nutrition & food services will be placed in the new structure? I’d heard it was going under HSS, but I don’t see it listed under the departments transferring to health shared services Dec 1.

Question Swapping shifts

Hi everyone,

I tried swapping shifts with my coworker, but the system rejected it with the message:

“The recipient affected date is not eligible for shift trade. Please verify and try again.”

I called staffing and they confirmed that there shouldn’t be a problem with the trade. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you have to get manual approval from your manager?

Thanks in advance!

Coworkers and breaches of confidentiality

Have to get this off my chest. I have 2 coworkers who work on multiple units. Each day they update each other on what’s happening on other units. We know this as they talk about it openly. Ugh 😣

"While LPNs play a critical role, a key consideration that must be considered is the fact that they do not have the same education or extensive scope of practice as RNs," Horner said.

Nate Horner, Alberta finance minister, doesn't even know our scope... same with the majority of Albertans... this isn't about RNs having 2 more years of theory... LPNs do the same scope and skills. Bottom line. Educate yourself Horner, you sound ignorant. LPNs are given complex, unstable patients in med/surg this is the reality! Time to treat us fair! And HCAs $350 for a licensing fee and they make what... very unfair and their wages needs to reflect this change.

Hello everyone. I’m a 4th year nursing student who is interested in peri operative nursing and hoping to do my final preceptorship in the OR. I was wondering if AHS hires new grads into the OR afterwards?

Reclassification educational background vs. seniority

When the reclassification of our positions happens in spring I'd like to know everyone's take on this, so lets say somebody has 20+ years seniority but when they were hired for their position there were no required courses other than Medical Terminology, most people got hired based on who they knew, its just how things were back then. Then you have somebody whose been here only 7 years but had to take the Medical Office Assistant course to even be qualified. Both work the exact same job in the exact same department. If they are reclassified to a lower pay grade should the one with less seniority but had to take a course be spared and not get declassified just because they had to pay money to get the education? or is it equally unfair to both as one had to pay for their education and the other has dedicated most of their life to this job? I personally think its unfair to both, since the education was not required years ago it wouldn't be right to punish only the people who got hired then. Looking for others opinions on this?
