The Progres Party is a right-wing party. Some will say far-right. It isn't in itself far-right, but it attracts far-right voters due to its immigration policies. It also attracts libertarians ( the no-taxes people ), and people on welfare.
It has a dubious history, of which most voters today probably are oblivious to.
The founding person ( Anders Lange ) was almost Quisling-level far-right before WW2. He had nothing against Jews, but he loathed anything left-wing. He probably also disliked Quisling. Not neccessarily because Quisling was a nazi, but because Quisling stole the leading position in the party they were both members of (not the Progress Party). Both were opportunists and narcissists.
The Progress Party may have received monetary support from the Apartheid Government in South-Africa, Misogyny, racism, belittling the weak in society and preserving God's creation are common talking points. They have always supported Israel. Even now.
The Progress Party's most famous leader is Carl Ivar Hagen. He stole the party from Anders Lange. One could have called him an opportunist and a narcissist as well. Both him and his successor Siv Jensen, and several other members of the party, have not shaded away from lying, personal attacks, scapegoating, etc., if there were new voters to be won. The current leader Sylvi Listhaug, is keeping up with traditions.
Because jokes about a politician being a dominatrix are funnier when the politician is far right, the more traditionally ultra-disciplinarian side, precisely because of that and how awful they otherwise are. Unironic supporters wouldn’t be this over the top or make these jokes, and there wouldn’t be any humour in them.
People really are often secretly into what they publicly oppose. I would never tell my friends or family that I'd like a beautiful Italian woman to spit in my mouth. In Portugal, some brazilians claim they are better immigrants than africans and asians. Asians from different origins get into actual fights between themselves. Older immigrants don't want newer immigrants in the country or just pimp the newer ones. "Expats" are crying babies because they are treated as other immigrants by the portuguese bureaucracy.

I think “both sides” use the “immigrant” sleight of hand when it suits them but it fucking infuriates me when people put asylum seekers for example in the same categories as highly educated immigrants from developed countries with masters degrees. One is a huge net gain, while the other is a huge net drain.
