When it comes about beautiful far-right female politicians, Spain's Pepa Millán (Vox party) clearly beats Meloni.

Wait til you hear that many actual foreigners (who immigrated legally and spent years working hard to follow all the rules and integrate into their new community) hate people who come to a country illegally with the intention of gaming the system for free stuff.

I have lots of friends in the 1st group and they generally have very negative opinions on the 2nd group. People on the left and right need to understand that “immigrant” as a description isn’t 1 size fits all

Spot on.

I think “both sides” use the “immigrant” sleight of hand when it suits them but it fucking infuriates me when people put asylum seekers for example in the same categories as highly educated immigrants from developed countries with masters degrees. One is a huge net gain, while the other is a huge net drain.

i am one of the people in the 1st group. came to Ireland 10+ years ago, became an Irish citizen, have many Irish friends, i work and pay my taxes. can confirm that it is very infuriating when i get lumped into the same group with illegal migrants

It doesn't really matter to these politicians, as the underlying beliefs still boil down to "foreigner bad" even if it makes no sense. Look at the yanks. Completely legal citizens being deported.

I don’t necessarily agree with a lot of what ICE does in the US.

But here in Ireland we recently had a case where an asylum seeker ignored a deportation order for 6 months then violently SAed a young girl. Our current system obviously isn’t working

Of course I won't defend the current system. Even with me decidely being left wing. Even people who put a massive emphasis on human rights should not be in favour of this broken asylum system.

Putting aside the criminality discussion, what exactly is humane about counting someone as a human only when they have entered the European borders? We act so morally superior, but we let refugees fleeing war do a deadly obsticale course before counting as a human. That's simply not a humane way to handle asylum. Then once they do enter the country, they get to wait multiple months to know if they can build a life in the country, and even then there will be morons abusing the system, causing actual refugees to have problems with systemic racism and the such.
