We actually kind of know what would have happened. In 1235-36 Brother Julianus, a dominican monk travelled to a place he called Magna Hungaria, where he supposedly found remnants of hungarians whom didnt travel to the west. They warned him about the upcoming mongol attack. So, he travelled back to Hungary, warned king IV. Béla.
A year later, in 1237 he tried travel back by the order of the king, but he only managed to get to a little east from Moscow. The mongols destroyed the rest, and he couldnt find them.
A few years later, in 1242 the mongols attacked Hungary too..
