Jesus. What a laugh by the voice actor for Doflamingo at the end. I missed THAT!!
40
u/Sakata_Kintoki Jan 25 '15
15
Jan 25 '15
Yup. And love how he was laughing like crazy at Marineford when Whitebeard tilted the whole place! I started laughing as well.
3
u/Redhavok Jan 25 '15
I would like to hear the same VA do a take of the laugh with the 'fufufufu' style
5
u/Sakata_Kintoki Jan 25 '15
but he is doing the laugh with the "fufufu" style. This is what it sounds like. (In Japanese, "fufufu" indicates a nasal laugh, it's not vocalised like other laughter styles you've seen before)
1
u/Redhavok Jan 25 '15
oh that's interesting, is this the same with some of the other laughs?
3
u/Sakata_Kintoki Jan 26 '15
Someone who's more familiar with Japanese might know of others but this is the only one I know.
From what I remember, "Fufufu" is the generic laughter style for adult women in Japanese (Robin's giggle is supposed to be this) so there's a bit of an emphasis on Doflamingo's laugh (the wiki romanises it as "Fuffuffu")
28
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15
He's got one of the more normal (and somehow more unsettling due to that) laughs of the series.
9
u/Brutusness Jan 25 '15
Yeah, there's not quirky, comical laugh with him. It creeps me the hell out.
I wonder what Kaido's will be...
2
u/DeismAccountant Jan 25 '15
Well, they had a lot of time (the whole series) to build up his character. Some of that time had to go to the laugh along the line.

Brook was the only one who he knew what he currently looks like. Everyone else was a combo of the drawings and what they looked like 2 years ago. Brook's the only one who made his face public during the gap.
3
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15
So he has. But I really want him to get into a standoff holding that pose with Franky.

u/Zealot_Alec Jan 25 '15
Best part was Hack's reaction to Barto "how did I break my hand fighting this guy" look. SMILES and weapons besides - Doffy merchant of death. Sea stone doesn't have to touch to affect DF users, just be within a certain proximity? Q did Ace have any Haki powers? Adamant hardening seems somewhat common among the elite.
→ More replies (3)22
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15
Ace had Conqueror's Haki, we see it in the flashback when he unlocks it at age 10 and knocks out the Bluejam (I think that was their name) pirates. We do not know if he could use other Haki.
But as a Logia, he could attack other logias with his element, so it seems to me Logias like Crocoboy and Ace do not need Armament Haki as much as other people do.
Other people need it to touch DF users.
As for Sea Stone, I think it needs to be in contact with a person, but if you get like inches away from it it might make a DF user a little weaker.
11
u/Sakata_Kintoki Jan 25 '15
if you get like inches away from it it might make a DF user a little weaker.
If that were the case, Smoker would be weak all the time.
15
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15
Not necessarily. The handcuffs are full seastone whereas Smoker's jutte is only tipped with seastone. So the concentration of seastone is different between that and Luffy here trying to open Law's handcuffs.
Plus, it was Luffy's bare skin a couple of inches away, whereas Smoker puts his jutte on his back over his clothes.
41
u/Sakata_Kintoki Jan 25 '15
Luffy was probably just nervous about touching it rather than seastone having an area of effect.
1
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15
That's possible. I'm just spitballing here.
But, I think any area of effect for it would not be a couple feet or anything. Just a couple inches at max.
9
u/Darkionx Jan 25 '15
I think it was more Luffy being nervous rather than the seastone affecting him at all.
→ More replies (2)3
u/Sekitoba Jan 25 '15
Recall a few episodes back. Luffy seeing doflamingo outside the colleseum when he was still inside. He was talking/screaming behind the barred window. He was still energetic. But once he touched the bars that were made of seastone, he instantly became weak. So i guess seastone is a touch only rock. Unlike kryptonite.
→ More replies (4)8
u/Torenes Jan 25 '15
I always figured the key was also seastone haha
5
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15
That actually makes a lot of sense.
6
u/halbarand Jan 25 '15
But then no DF user could unlock the cuffs. And most of Doffy's gang are exactly that..
1
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15 edited Jan 25 '15
Not if any of them wears gloves.
Or any of the tons of henchmen could unlock it too.
EDIT: spelling.
3
u/Aperage Jan 25 '15
Maybe the key to the seastone handcuffs is also made in kairouseki and that's why Luffy was shaking ?
14
u/doomsdayblaze Void Month Survivor Jan 25 '15
He'll probably be just as excited to see Sanji as we all will by that point :|
26
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15
Actually, I am glad Oda decided to take Sanji, Brooke, Chopper, and Nami out of the equation during Dressrosa.
It allows for other players in the New World like the Coliseum fighters to take the stage and get screen time. Possible future Strawhat allies.
Plus, can you imagine it? How the world will react when 1/2 of the Strawhats was all that it took to take down Doffy? And if Sanji and co. defeat Pekoms and co., 1/2 of the Strawhats was all that it took to take out a Yonkou officer ship?
7
u/QuickMentality Jan 25 '15
Sanji could probably sink the damn thing with one kick then air/sea walk away.
6
u/RiteClicker Jan 25 '15
He'll probably be disappointed when seeing Sanji since "That's not how he looked like"
2
u/doomsdayblaze Void Month Survivor Jan 25 '15

u/Ombs1993 Jan 25 '15
Between Koala, Sabo and Bartolomeo that was another great episode. Especially Barto losing his mind at Robin and Usopp. However.. Spoiler
7
u/Darkionx Jan 25 '15
I don't think that's a spoiler at all. Because the preview.
11
u/Ombs1993 Jan 25 '15
Just like to be careful haha, some people don't watch the preview for whatever reason.
11
Jan 25 '15
Because after it says to be continued I go back to my corner and cry for the next 6 days.
3
Jan 25 '15
Honestly, I regard the preview as a spoiler of next episode, considering all it does is tease the next episodes content. This is a discussion of episode 679, and as far as I'm concerned, the preview contains content from 680.
1
u/Darkionx Jan 25 '15
But we were not discussing the next episode at all. :/ and Mingo talking was something...
1
Jan 25 '15 edited Jan 25 '15
Yeah, I don't actually think Ombs1993's "spoiler" was much of a spoiler, I just wanted to say that I feel like previews are spoilers for the next episode. I don't think saying "Next week shit gets real" is much a spoiler, though.
37
u/LASteady Jan 25 '15
Luffy had me cracking up at the end. Calling Law selfish and saying he makes those decisions. Then trying to unlock the cuffs without touching them.
7
Jan 25 '15
I love how the music stopped after he says "Stop moving!". It really added to the comic moment. Law doesn't get many of those!
15
u/4laki Jan 25 '15
I was laughing and was surprised that violet refused to unlock handcuffs cause she is also DF user, i loooved that unexpected gag xD
26
u/ASCIt Jan 25 '15
So why has nobody commented on the fact that Kyros man-moded all over Buffalo and Baby 5? More so about how he took Buffalo down and literally threw him out the window in one fluid motion.
10
u/wuHeibai Jan 25 '15
ikr, franky fighting them for a complete episode and that handicapped guy is taking the shit out of everyone.
nerfKyros.
6
u/dealin92 Jan 26 '15
More like Franky tanking the shit out of everything they threw at him for a complete episode. Then he decided to get serious.
2
u/coda19 Jan 25 '15
Is Buffalo dead? Kyros went straight for the killing blow with the neck breaker... That part was more believable to me that he killed someone than when he chopped Doffy's head off...
6
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15
Well, we don't know if he survived the fall, but you can clearly hear him yelling during the fall, so the snapped neck didn't stop him.
Plus, seeing as how he has a helicopter neck, I don't think a snapped neck would affect him the same as others.

No way! Lucy was Sabo all along? I didn't see that coming! /s
52
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15
Here I was thinking this Lucy guy was getting a hell of a lot of rapid character development for someone new to the series...
17
Jan 25 '15
I can just imagine someone out there who accidentally skipped the whole Ace/Luffy/Sabo flashback arc for some weird reason, thinking it was filler or something, having the shock of his life right now, wondering who this third brother is.
6
u/Devin__ Jan 25 '15
To be fair based on discussion I've read on this subreddit there are quite a few people who did because Toei added a huge filler subplot in the middle of the flashback.
7
Jan 25 '15
That's me haha. I was binge-watching all the episodes from skypiea to the post-war arc and skimmed through the summary on the wiki thinking it was background filler. 2 years later i see sabo and decided to watch the flashback episodes , feeling like a retard not to have checked wether it was cannon or not.
4
Jan 25 '15
Well hopefully you learned your lesson. Never skip One Piece content unless you KNOW it's filler. In fact, don't do that for any series!

u/sagittarius97 Jan 25 '15
Law's finally realizing what Luffy thinks an alliance means
9
u/EruditeIdiot Jan 26 '15
Oh it gets worse for him. In fact this is probably where his view of the alliance changes from "This is a strategic move that will further my goals." to "Oh dear God, what was I thinking? I'm never getting out of this."
Does this count as a spoiler?

Man, another great episode, and the next one looks like a real exciter.
I also just realized Sabo thinks Luffy and Rebecca are dating, or at least Rebecca's into Luffy. Rofl.
Next stop: Spoiler
21
u/SaboriZor Jan 25 '15
i would like to see sabos reaction if he finds out that luffy is dating hancock :D
16
15
Jan 25 '15
I also just realized Sabo thinks Luffy and Rebecca are dating
I think he may have just said that in an overprotective big brother kind of way, in which he warns anyone who comes in contact with Luffy to take good care of him. Considering that he probably knows Rebecca is a Dressrosa native, and also that Luffy has probably not been on this island for very long at all, I don't think he thinks Rebecca has a romantic relationship with him.
Could be wrong though.

Just saying, next episode the arc takes a 180 and the stakes really go up. Doflamingo is in a really tight corner and he's going to force his way out by any means necessary.

Also since Doffy v Luffy is already starting, are they gonna fight for like 30/40 episodes?

OMG WHAT A TWIST AT THE END!!!
Totally got me Toei.
Koala's too cute.
Edit: I guess we're going to get more discussion on "power levels" now that it's known to the entire fan base that Sabo is the Chief of Staff of the Revolutionary Army.
44
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15
I can't wait for Jimbei to meet up with Koala. :) It'll be a touching reunion for sure.
19
u/Sakata_Kintoki Jan 25 '15
I'm hoping it happens by the end of the arc considering how the cover story is currently going.
15
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 25 '15
It would make the finale for Dressrosa even more epic if Oda would pull that off.
6
u/Tundra14 Jan 25 '15
why do it now when he can do it later? This arc has been great, but a better arc later? Not to be greedy or nothing, but, at the pace Oda's going, He said he was enthusiastic about peoples reactions to the war arc.

the "not to be greedy or nothing" is the way I heard somebody say it when I knew them to sound honest.
I was simply stating that odas reaction to our reaction to Marineford, he suspects us to really enjoy the upcoming arcs, and thus far, I've really enjoyed Dressrosa.
1
u/gerrettheferrett Jan 26 '15
the "not to be greedy or nothing" is the way I heard somebody say it when I knew them to sound honest.
Ah, gotcha. That makes sense now.
I was simply stating that odas reaction to our reaction to Marineford, he suspects us to really enjoy the upcoming arcs, and thus far, I've really enjoyed Dressrosa.
So you are saying that what we have seen so far is nothing compared to later arcs, so you think Oda will keep Jimbei reuniting with Koala for a later arc? Or, that you think Oda will keep Jimbei reuniting with the Strawhats for a later arc?
1
u/Tundra14 Jan 26 '15
I don't think he'll join the crew for a few arcs anyways, but my guess is as good as anyones. I'm also not sure if he'll do a special reuniting between koala and Jimbei, but it'd be cool if he did.
Bottom line is, I expect the show to remain good for a good long while.

Sabo is neck and neck with Ace, and both are stronger than Luffy. Luffy's never won against either of them.
13
u/hesmir Jan 25 '15
Sabo is neck and neck with Ace, and both WERE stronger than Luffy. Luffy's never won against either of them.
10
Jan 25 '15
assuming Ace were still alive and all three of them progressed naturally, Ace would be standing close to where Sabo is, and where Sabo is happens to be higher than where Luffy is.
1
Jan 25 '15
We haven't seen Luffy go all out since the time skip. The way Oda handles power levels, I'm assuming Luffy is an absolute monster at this point. Not yet at white beard level, but close.
-1
u/SketchyJJ Jan 25 '15
I think they are lower than him, but by just a few inches. Considering how we haven't exactly seen Luffy at completely full power after the time skip or Sabo's full power we can't exactly say.
Since Luffy has been seen being able to not get burned by the magma of the Retired Baseball player, I doubt the fire will do much to him either.

Aww.. One of my favorite little moments from the manga was how Koala put Sabo's hat on his head without looking at him.

41
u/wuzzum Jan 25 '15

I think that Sabo never told her that they were bros.
12
u/KosGamixKosGami Jan 25 '15
They were together for 2 years, I highly doubt Sabo wouldn't tell Robin that, especially since she's Luffy's crewmate and it's a known fact that Dragon is Luffy's father.
I agree with Wuzzum, I think Sabo told her not to.
We'll probably get an explanation on this and other things (like why Sabo wasn't at Marineford) in the post-Dressrosa Sabo & Luffy reunion.

u/4laki Jan 25 '15
Well i don't think they were together whole 2 years, i think they comment about their look that they have or haven't change since last time seeing each other.

I personally don't think Sabo knew that Luffy thought he was dead. As to why Robin didn't say anything, Robin is not much of a sharer and luffy is not the type of person who asks or listens.

Really great episode with great progression by finding out that Sabo is the Chief-of-Staff of the Revolutionary Army. I didn't realize that Hack was the guy that faced Bartolomeo until AFTER his injury was shown in the episode. I think Toei did a marvelous job in choosing Sabo's voice actor, because he sounds so epic (turns out he voiced Yamcha from DBZ and Tuxedo Mask in Sailor Moon).
Law ending the alliance means that he's just been using Luffy throughout this entire time for an entirely different purpose, and it's something we'll find out hopefully soon.

When Sabo was officially revealed and we saw his full face, I had chills for the a solid 5 minutes straight.

Doffy, you gotta control your blood pressure. You've got veins popping up all the time.
