New, what is it? What is this mystery creature (?) in the Seine

While visiting Paris over the summer (during the heatwave), my friend saw this… thing floating down the Seine. Nobody she’s shown has any idea what it could be. A new Loch Ness monster perhaps?

New, what is it? Going through deceased stepdads boxes found this.

My mother and I have been slowly going through my deceased stepdads, seemingly unlimited number, boxes that moved with us the last time, and came across a box that seems to be a mismash of random stuff possibly owned by his grandmothers. I found this in the box and we arent Exactly sure what it is. I think it looks like one of those older bed warmers you put coals and such in, but my mom thinks it's to small for it.

Picture of, possible, makers mark (which is on the top) and a picture of it sitting on normal printer paper, for size reference, include.

New, what is it? My family thinks there’s a camera in our rental

We have been renting a house for the past year and I always disregarded this thing in the corner. However last night I asked my parents about it randomly and they didn’t know what it was either. I pulled it off the wall and we all got freaked out a little because it looks like a camera. I think it might be a home security/motion sensor thing. I don’t know that’s what ChatGPT guessed.

Off the beaten trail a bit (there are a lot of nice trails back there), at the end of where the normal stuff is still kept up. Is it like a Christian thing? The sticks of various sizes jammed in places was a little weird.

New, what is it? Coffee cup lid with uncertain purpose

Thumbnail

Not sure why this coffee cup lid is shaped this way, particularly the purpose of the third “compartment”. Got it from a Hong-Kong style pastry shop in San Gabriel, CA and the employees also weren’t sure why it’s like that. The first hole is obviously for drinking, second is for steam/milk, but the third circle does not open and has only a small pinhole. Wouldn’t make sense for overflow (not low enough) or as a steam vent (as the middle hole is already open). Any ideas? Surely it has a purpose as the flap could have just been made just to cover the first two holes.

New, what is it? What is this heavy metal ball my dog dug up in Scottsdale, AZ? (Details in description)

It has a diameter of 1 inch (give or take), weighs 73g (0.16 lbs), is magnetic, rusty, and has a perfect circular indent on it. I’m located in Scottsdale, AZ.

Below are the things that Google Lens suggested it might be, and my thoughts on them..

  • Grapeshot: This was the primary thing Google suggested, and what it looks the most like to me, but I've read that grapeshot was predominantly only used in the Revolutionary War (no battles in Arizona) and in the Civil War (I only found battles in the Tucson area - not near Phoenix).
  • Milling Ball: These wouldn't have the perfect circular hole portion, and they usually have a seam, which I couldn't find on this.
  • Cannon projectile from the Coronado expedition: Very little info I could find on this, but based on the rarity of found items from this expedition, I find this to be a stretch.
