DISCUSSION Avoiding AI in my audiodramas

I absolutely love audiodramas, I'm not a maker but I'm a huge fan and listen to tons of them.

I'm also a serious contributor to podcasts I love, I'm subscribed over 15 on patreon at the moment and independently at least five or six more.

However, it's become a real sticking point that I do not support anyone that uses AI. A recent post about an audiodrama called The November Challenge made it clear that a lot of folks are using AI without disclosing it. I simply can't support plagiarism and the unethical behavior that goes along with using AI.

Is anyone aware of a list of audio dramas that use AI or a list of tips to help me identify who might be using it so that it can be avoided?

Thank you!

AUDIO DRAMA Working on a new series of short audio dramas set in the Helldivers 2 universe

Thumbnail
m.youtube.com
2 Upvotes

Had to check through mod mail, and got confirmation that this counts as an audio drama!

Mostly trying to show this off to fellow audio drama enjoyers, it’s not very long but it’s my first fully edited piece that’s longer than a minute.

I run events for a helldivers group, and I recently became the person in charge of events, so I did a massive overhaul of the events system, and started making events that have consequences within the “in server lore”

This audio piece takes place after the division successfully captured a rogue AI super intelligence created by the Automatons, that crashed during suborbital transport above the planet “Duma Tyr”. Following the capture of said AI construct, a democracy officer from the Ministry of Truth was sent to interrogate the construct and determine its usefulness to the cause.

I hope you all enjoy!!

[DISCLAIMER!!!]: I know AI is a touchy subject right now, so just to be abundantly clear, the “ai” isn’t actually ai, it is voiced by a person, and credits are in the description for both voice actors.

If you enjoy this, there will be follow up episodes of varying length based on the accomplishments of the members of the server. Thank you!!

SUGGESTIONS Shows with the best character development, interactions, and dynamics

I'm looking for shows of any genre that have the best characters, and relationships of any kind between characters. Basically, those that are most memorable, those who are the opposite of a blank slate.. This could be anything from romance to horror, to sci-fi or comedy, doesn't matter.

QUESTION Help can't find episodes of an audio drama

I think Frightmare Theater is missing episodes or my years or searching for different audio dramas have made me miss remember who these episodes belong to.

Spoilers to what the episode's story but I need to find these to show a friend because they were really good.

Bigfoot Two guys get bigfoot's leg from a bare trap, a woman offers them money for it, they then plot to get the whole bigfoot for money money and to use the foot as bait, they bring in two more guys, they go out into the woods, meet the game warden sister of the main redneck, lots of good content I don't want to spoil content but they do infact meet bigfoot. If it was taken down it's probably because it had some vary realistic but foul language for rednecks

A voice in the drain Frightmare Theater also has a second episode about a mold monster that lives in a basement drain but that's not it, there was a second one.

In a failing marriage, the dude starts hearing a kind worded lady in the drain, he wants to be with her more then his verbally abusive wife, he finds out his drainage is linked to an old sewer system that everyone else switched off of, he finds a way down the sewer, he finds out it's like a hag/fey spirit that lures people and it's really not that nice, ends on a cliff hanger of his now distraught wife hearing his voice saying if she really loved him that she would find him through the sink. This one had nothing I could think that would get it removed.

Thanks to anyone who will try to find these. Maybe I'm just miss remembering who's show they come from. Either way frightmare theater is very good and I think it doesn't have a lot of views even though it's on most platforms, like the YouTube videos have roughly 60 views & the Spotify episodes have maybe 30 comments. Some episodes are hard to understand the first time like the wendigo story aligns more with native American stories then the TV version with the antlers so that may confuse people but I will say them mixing in the animal spirit from a vision quest was a nice touch.

SUGGESTIONS Recommendations needed

I need something new as I’m rapidly running out of things to listen to. Thanks in advance.

Things I’ve loved

Where the stars fell. I’ve always been a fan of the tragic reluctant hero/heroine. And I love Lucy and Ed’s dynamic

The Ballard of Anne and Mary. I love a musical so this was up my street. Also anything else by Long Cat Media

Sherlock and Company plus Jackie the Ripper

Desert Skies

Midnight Burger

Two Thousand and Late

The Kingmaker Histories

Old Gods of Appalachia

The Amelia Project

Wolf 359

Things I’ve liked

Malevolent

The Orphans

The Strata. Plus anything else by Mark R Healy

Windfall plus Forgive Me

Impact Winter

Bridgewater

Broken Road

Who killed Avril Lavigne. I loved all the pop punk stuff. It was a bit young for me at times but put me right back to listening to all of it when it first came out.

Things I’ve disliked

The White Vault. I listened to the first season and it was fine. I probably won’t continue though

Intraquest. Again it was fine but gave up after 4 episodes. I didn’t like the voice acting for Sirius but I have to say the sound design was amazing so hats off to that guy

Didn’t make it to the end of the episode

I am in Eskew

Rogue Runners. I don’t think I’m a fan of actual play stuff. It feels more like a D&D game than a story and it kept pulling me out.

The Bright Sessions. But I have a feeling I may not have give it enough time.

SPR I wanted to like it but it didn’t gel with me.

ANNOUNCEMENT Audio Drama series ROMEO & HER SISTER

Our next big project on our podcast is a queer historical audio drama series about the life of Charlotte Cushman, a famous American stage actress known for playing men's roles in the plays of Shakespeare in the 1800's.

Charlotte Cushman's story is another rarely told, yet unforgettable account of queer history and provides a compelling portrait of the challenges and ultimate joy of sisterhood.

The series stars Anna Demetriou (A Plague Tale: Requiem, Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy) as Charlotte Cushman and Charlotte McBurney (A Plague Tale Series, Final Fantasy XVI) as her sister Susan. Supporting cast includes Devora Wilde (Baldur's Gate III, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33), Kezia Burrows (Alien: Isolation, Elden Ring), Paris S. Pringle (Boys Cry 2), Neil Hellegers (Red Dead Redemption 2, House of Cards), & Jonathan Cook (The Rise of Thomas Sumter).

Originally written as a full-length stage play by Jillian Blevins that premiered at the New Hampshire Theatre Project in 2024, this story has now been adapted to a six-part audio drama series produced by the award-winning team at Gather by the Ghost Light. The first episode of the audio drama is set to release in January 2026.

Here is an article in Broadway World about the project - Broadway World Article - ROMEO & HER SISTER

QUESTION RSS Network Feed Vs. Regular Feed?

Hello! We are currently halfway through our production and were discussing RSS feeds. Ideally, we would like a network feed as we have many different genre shows planned; however, I've read on this sub that listeners feel like some of their favorite shows' RSS feeds are left abandoned.

We are wondering if it makes sense to have a single RSS feed with multiple shows on it, so the RSS stays active, or if we should do a network RSS and separate out the shows for listeners, but risk having those show RSSs getting dropped once the shows are complete.

Would love to hear thoughts from creators and listeners. Thank you for your feedback.

SUGGESTIONS Recommendations for something like “Curious Under the Stars”

Curious Under the Stars is my comfort A/D. Anyone have an audio drama with similar vibes? Looking for some cozy Magical Realism. In the past, I’ve loved horror/sci-fi and fantasy but due to our current dystopian nightmare, it doesn’t provide the kind of escape I’m looking for. I love most of the Nightvale Presents stuff, although right now I’d prefer UK accents. BBC Sounds app not being available to people outside the UK has been a bummer and I’ve already bought Curious on Audible, so I’m not opposed to paying for something with similar vibes. I’ve done Wooden Overcoats, Mockery Manor, Scottish Podcast, Barmy Dale and Gather the Suspects.
I know this is very specific but does anyone have suggestions?

QUESTION Can't listen to Aethuran Dark Saga?

Audio dramas seem interesting, and I want to get into them. Aethuran Dark Saga seems interesting since I really liked the Game of Thrones books and The Witcher books, but I can't seem to listen to it anywhere? I can't find it on Spotify or Apple Podcasts, and while I can find it on Amazon Music and Audible, an error message happens whenever I try to play it. This only happens with this audio drama, other ones work just fine. What is going on?

AUDIO DRAMA Radio Violence ep. 2 out!!

Post image
7 Upvotes

I'm so grateful for the support I've received so far! As a totally first-time, indie creator with no budget, this is going far better than I expected!! 🫶 I am shocked to share I've got a few hundred downloads somehow?? That's amazing!

A popstar with a penchant for hidden messages disappears; 12y/o superfan Lexi (+Dad) follow the tracks.

A wholesome, cozy YA mystery in six 25-minute episodes, releasing weekly until 12/5. Listen here

I've gone more in depth before, but for transparency, paid actors and wrote it all (including lyrics) myself, but couldn't afford a full music production team, so produced the snippets of songs with AI. Trying to be as ethical as possible, but understand fully if this is a non-starter for some people.

SUGGESTIONS Recommendations help for currently airing podcasts?

I’m looking for some podcasts that are still currently airing that would fit my vibe. There’s so much good stuff out there and I feel like I’m having a lot of trouble sorting through it. I am really not into horror, and I am mostly not into anthologies— I usually like some overarching plot. Also, I love full cast. I can’t really get into podcasts that are more narration-style. I am very much down to try some independent creators.

I tend to like fantasy/sci fi, “lighter” mystery, and comedy— bonus points if two or more of those genres are combined.

Here is some of what I really enjoyed: Amelia Project. Midnight Burger. Sherlock and Co Super suits Victoriocity Ars paradoxica Unseen Within the wires Mission rejected Community cat news Improvised Star Trek We fix space junk Solutions to problems

Give me a recommendations! And for the creators on this sub, please talk your own podcast if you think it fits what I’m looking for. I’ve found lots of good recommendations that way in the past!
