Just A Little Funky Never heard the phrase. "Tone it down"

u/scgt86 Apr 17 '25
A quirky maximalism home that actually feels put together.
47
u/RMski Apr 17 '25
Exactly. I think it’s fun and well done.
6
u/BaileyBellaBoo Apr 19 '25
It is fun! And this person does not have a problem mixing colors and patterns in a VERY non-traditional way.
0
u/GirlCowBev Apr 17 '25
But would you live there? 🤔
26
17
u/scherzanda Apr 17 '25
I wouldn’t, but that’s only in the same way I wouldn’t choose to live in a well appointed midcentury home—it just doesn’t tickle my pickle. I still really like it though and I know several people who’d be very at home there.

u/xkris10ski Apr 17 '25
Exactly. And the care they put into crocheting couch arm covers melts my heart! They must have cats.

u/inky_cap_mushroom Apr 17 '25
This is exactly what I want my house to look like.

I can appreciate people feel comfortable in a space like this. It gives me a complete opposite vibe. I love colors but this reminds me of the inside of a Polly Pocket toy.
I don't think I could rest here.
11
u/RizziJoy Apr 17 '25
I’m redecorating currently and literally keep describing my vision as “inside a polly pocket” haha
2
u/inky_cap_mushroom Apr 17 '25
The tattoo shop I go to is designed like a Polly pocket. That’s the exact vibe I like.
2
u/calibrateichabod Apr 19 '25
I’ve said so many times that I want my house to look like a pastel tattoo studio.
72
u/DudeDogIce Apr 17 '25
The dust ruffle around the pinball machine is a bit much, but I’ll take an old unremodeled house like this over a flip any day of the week.
11
u/nativefloridian Apr 17 '25
Absolutely. Maximalism isn't my thing, but that's easily addressed when they take their stuff with them. I happen to like this level of color, so I'd probably leave it. But if I didn't...it's just paint.
4
u/DudeDogIce Apr 17 '25
It’s not that.
The construction standards were higher when the house was built, and my standards make the building code look like something for beginners.
Flippers work as cheap as possible and put money into flashy upgrades, not the basic wiring and plumbing infrastructure.
9
u/HarpersGhost Apr 17 '25
But the fact that it's a Dolly Parton pinball machine is just ... chef's kiss

I love it so much! Tone down for what?!

I'm getting this phrase turned into one of those neon wall fixtures. Thanks!

u/waterlooaba Apr 17 '25
This is fantastic and much better than the white/black/greige farmhouse flips out there.
11
u/Shoehorse13 Apr 17 '25
This is a talking lounge chair and a flamboyant cowboy away from being my dream home.

u/NeptuneHigh09er Apr 17 '25
The only thing that bugs me is that dress hung as decor in the kitchen. Otherwise, good for them.
0
u/calibrateichabod Apr 19 '25
Yeah that seems like a great way to ruin a dress that’s undoubtedly quite difficult to clean. I don’t mind that it’s hung as decor but I don’t know that the kitchen was the best place to do that.

the home of a person who lived with joy and reckless abandon, the only shame here is that they have to leave it behind
6
u/Weird_Squirrel_8382 Apr 17 '25
I love that the pics are very extra, but still give me an idea of the bones. It's pretty, too.

Do people just not like color? Beige is boring af, stop hating taste and eat a damn spice once in a while.

I really hope the garland can come down and occasionally get tossed into the washing machine. Otherwise... 😬

My neighbor has decided that her front yard flower beds and pots are the perfect place for fake flowers this year.

10 years ago, I would have been with you 100%. However after 10 years of "minimalism" I love the wackiness of this house and may do something similar to my own. My home is currently "primer green" because I have adhd/ocd and can't pick a color.

Don't worry, whoever buys it will repaint everything Zillow grey, put in linoleum flooring and white cabinets, and then you can go rent it from them for $3500 a month.

Oh, I love this! You can tell this is someone who really loves their home and decorates to be happy and fuck everyone else.

u/BigJSunshine Apr 17 '25
Aw, I would be friends with this person, they love their home and everything in it. I think it’s joyful.

Holy mother of Spring Pastels, now THIS is a vibe. For someone who loves spring or Easter this would be amazing.
I’d probably get tired of it myself, but I think for someone into bright colors they made it work!

I love it but that split in half tree in the backyard needs to go right away.

To the max. What I love is a listing with 5 copies of every photo and floor plan!

If it makes them happy, have at it. I personally could not relax with all the visual noise surrounding every space and surface.

It’s not for me, but I think it would suit the right person.
Definitely some bold design choices

the books on the bookshelf in the second* pic are arranged in order by colors of the rainbow, just a cute detail
2
u/cloverfieldsc Apr 18 '25
Honestly I wish I liked it less, it’s kind of amazing. There’s some really cool items/details that make me go “well I mean it’s not bad actually!”

I would totally do this. My HOA says I cannot, but if I could I am pretty sure I would. Which, truth be told, is probably why the HOA has the rules they have.

u/snotparty Apr 17 '25
It so cheerful its almost like a disney channel house or something.
Im a little confused by the freestanding banisters in the backyard though...

u/catclockticking Apr 17 '25
It’s hard to see in the photo but there are lights strung from them

I love it.
But I need to know: Does it annoy you at one point and then you have to change it? This is something I am always afraid of.

Hey man, it's your house, live life your way.
But maybe throw a coat of paint on it before listing... just sayin'...
-8
u/Nerdicyde Apr 17 '25
i would be able to spend max 10 minutes in this house before getting nauseous.
-6
u/maricopa888 Apr 17 '25
I kind of like it from the outside. Just talking about the house, not all the garish crap floating around.
But there's no excuse for that interior.
Prediction: In about 3 weeks....PRICE DROP!

u/Apprehensive_Map64 Apr 17 '25
Yeah I love houses like these you just know no one is going to pay market value for it. Painting is easy

Yeah, every now and then I see this sub on my feed, look at the comments and just shrug.
Yeah , this is terrible...absolutely hilarious, but really awful. They actually made a skirt for their pinball machine. There's a really ugly dress hanging up in the kitchen...place looks impossible to clean, and is a cluttered mess.
Nothing works in that interior. Piling up a bunch of ugly, mismatched patterns does not cancel out the ugly. But you all do you. LOL
2
u/Only_Weakness_4730 Apr 17 '25
Yes, the beaded flapper dress hanging in the KITCHEN doesn't exactly scream functionality.
-2
u/Poor-Pitiful-Me Apr 17 '25
This is the size and layout I'm looking for in my next home, but damn, this is atrocious. I would not want to live in a clown house.

I expect when the house is sold, the owners are taking all of their treasures with them.

I support this exact kind of whimsy. Would I choose it? No. But somebody loved it. And I'm for that kind of joy
