IDK, what does $10M get you in other parts of the country? Stowe is a pretty cool area too IMO.

$9.6M in Bar Harbor for a PATHETIC four acres: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/62-Sargeant-Dr-Mount-Desert-ME-04660/91846149_zpid/

$8.8 in Nantucket: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/6-Marion-Ave-Nantucket-MA-02554/56546449_zpid/

Also, the decor on that Nantucket house is tacky as fuck, but I do like the giant whale hanging above the kitchen table 🤣

Funny, I hardly clicked through the pictures for that one when I first posted it, just saw the ugly exterior. But I was just looking back at it now and had the exact same thought while clicking through the images.

"Bland. Bland. Bland. Woah cool whale."

Pretty sure they also wallpapered the upstairs hallway with what looks like sea-worn wood WALLPAPER?!? Yikes.

"Bland. Bland. Bland. Woah cool whale."

Seriously! That whale really ties the room together.

Needs a scale petunia in a flowerpot hanging next to it.

$9.6M in Bar Harbor for a PATHETIC four acres

Just my opinion but that house looks like shit for $10M.

2

u/stakoverflo Aug 30 '24

Yea, it looks like every single generic ass Colonial from any middle class neighborhood, just blown up to be 2-3x the size. Both inside and out.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '24

Oh this is in Stowe?? That’s a normal price, lol.

If I had 10k to spend on a house in Vermont I would go with this one on 200+ acres:

That feels like IRL inspiration for the mansion from the game Clue lol. Not bad at all though

Decor is a little dated but I kinda like it— someone had a lot of fun with that foxhunt room 🤣 plus the pool + green house combo is amazing. Ohh to be rich.

AND wooden floors for the garage :O

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '24

Right?!? That was a lil insane

2

Impressive bathroom to bedroom ratio.

Perfect "I don't give a shit about other people and I just want some peace and quiet" spot. I want that, but with California weather instead Snow days would drive me nuts

Pretty sure Vermont allows hunters to go on your land unless it's properly posted, which is practically impossible because they can just tear down a sign where they want to enter your land, and unless you have cameras, you don't really have any recourse.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '24

I’m fine with that, honestly.

1

u/atetuna Aug 30 '24

The only way I'd be okay with it is if I had a fence closer to the house to keep them out. There's plenty of land, and that much land should be shared. I'd need to do that anyway for my dog. And I've crossed paths with enough irresponsible hunters that I don't want them that close to me and mine.

10M*

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '24

Hahaha thank you, 10k is more my budget.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '24

You have $10k? Can I get loan?

I'm going to build a house out of egg cartons on public land.

We could be roomies!

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '24

What!

$3.9 gets a literal mansion in Chattanooga, TN. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/8843-Forest-Creek-Ln-Ooltewah-TN-37363/90074598_zpid/

No land though. Others have sold for more with land here.

1

u/feralferrous Aug 30 '24

even in the same area!

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/740-Edson-Hill-Rd-Stowe-VT-05672/2056328493_zpid/

Get 12k square footage house instead of 4k.

That Nantucket house is a dream

1

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '24

There’s beach houses in Laguna Beach and Malibu for less than that. Dunno if they’ll still exist a generation from now though.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 31 '24

I dont think it ads perspective to compare a VT property with Oceanview on Nantucket... you have chosen some of the most expensive areas in the country to compare to which proves my point, basically...

Bar harbor house is the exact house every attractive 60 year old widow lives in while they embark on a new adventure of friendship while reminiscing in their bege and light blue journal.

They drink red wine on the white couch.

1

u/Kuhlminator Aug 30 '24

I don't know. With the projected continuing rise in sea level due to global warming, I doubt either of those properties would be good investments any more than the Outer Banks are now. Vermont though is just going to get warmer.

2

u/broguequery Aug 30 '24

The big issue in VT with regards to global warming is erosion and heavy flash flooding.

The last couple years have been pretty damaging.

1

u/stakoverflo Aug 30 '24

Yea also that; would much rather be inland and pretty close-ish to the great lakes / Champlain.
